Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

Thanks for JM to help cheer her up.

Hello balletpump! ToddlerScout just turned two last week.

Had one Senior at my SS meeting tonight. Since MrScout was working locally and could collect TS before bedtime I stupidly stayed on at Guides after Seniors. Why oh why?

Loving this amazon list for TS. I've called it Wishes for ToddlerScout and have lots of fun things in it that aren't too suitcase/customs unfriendly. Always a concern when going home -- we rapidly run out of space even though I reserve space by taking presents home with us and take very little in the way of clothes (M&D have a washer and a dryer after all!).

beanandspud · 01/11/2011 22:46

Hello Balletpump! I have a DS who is 3.5.

Does anyone have a 'childhood ailments crystal ball' that I can borrow?

I thought Small Bean was fully recovered from his sickness at weekend (eating normally for all of yesterday, fine in himself etc.) so he went back to nursery today. Got a call at lunchtime to say that he had been sick again and to go and get him. So, he is officially excluded for another 48 hours and whilst I completely agree with the policy it is so frustrating as he has been absolutely fine at home again and selfishly I don't enjoy working until 10pm to try to catch up on missed work

I know we are really lucky as this is the first sickness bug he has picked up but I do struggle with the unpredictability of these things.

Sorry for the moan, Wine would be lovely.

Scout - I have started my own Amazon wishlist for Mr Bean who is fantastic in many, many ways but just not very good at presents!

Jacksmania · 01/11/2011 22:49

Balletpump's desperation was over her DS's lost stuffed dog. A replacement ia currently being bid for on EBay and until then, BalletDS is having lots of kind MNers send him postcards from stuffed-dog-on-holiday. :o She mentioned that her was her one and only and I thought, hey, a new recruit for the Tea Room!

which will no doubt go over well with the new patient I'm about to see :o

Jacksmania · 01/11/2011 22:49

Right, the typos are not from too much Wine but from too much [hurry].

ComeIntoTheSinisterGardenMaud · 01/11/2011 22:51

Aw, that happened to a colleague once. He had to buy a replica Bunny and drag it along the pavement to make it look authentically repulsive aged and treasured. I hope BalletDog can be replaced.

beanandspud · 01/11/2011 22:53

JM - I think a yoga and Wine class could be the next big thing...

::forms queue to register::

Scout19075 · 01/11/2011 22:55

This is why we have Dopple (Bunny) who is allowed to be played with upstairs but never leaves the house (unlike Bunny who goes on walks and sometimes gets drug to toddler groups).

Good luck Ballet!

UniS · 01/11/2011 22:57

evening all- any ideas ... I need to source a wedding anniversary present of a modest nature from the village shop tomorrow ( 15th, crystal) . Yep, I forgot it was our anniversary tomorrow, DH reminded me when he apologised for having left a card at work so would I mind waiting till tomorrow eveing.... I have no transport OR time to get to town tomorrow so it has to be village shop (small general grocery store, slightly up market from a SPAR.). I'm willing to think VERY laterally.

If all else fails I was thinking I might make some treacle toffee, because DH likes it.

LOL at bunny being drug to groups.

Boy looked at all his halloween loot last night and declared the bowl was overflown.

Hello - I thought that should see how you all are!

Greetings to Balletpump. Sympathy to B&S - I hope that smallbean has no further relapses.

JM lots of sympathy - I hope that you are feeling happier.

DS loved trick and treating - I still regard it as a "foreign" American import.... although I have now succumbed to putting a pumpkin out and having a tub of chocolates for visitors. (20 years ago, I used to snort something about "horrible American habits" at visitors in a curmudgeonly fashion)

When I was a kid we had a couple of Halloween parties with jam pot lanterns, carved swedes (and believe me, that was a challenge besides which pumpkin carving is easy peasy) and scary stories.

No trick or treating at all - we saved our depradations for Mischief Night (Yorkshire lass emoticon), although we thought that the height of daring was knocking on a neigbour's door and running away, or hiding their gates (to be returned next day if not found previously by the householder)...

Oh the wild life of a West Riding village in the 60's and 70's!

beanandspud · 01/11/2011 23:01

Unis - how about this...

grow your own crystal

You could use some of your creative genius to make the jar look special and perhaps have a bottle of fizz and some treacle toffee to enjoy while it grows?

Happy Anniversary!!!

Jacksmania · 01/11/2011 23:57

Shock at carving up unsuspecting Swedes - how very bloodthirsty Shock although appropriate for Halloween Wink.

:o

Thanks everyone, I miss my mum a lot, the first few days after she goes home or I go home from visiting there are always a lot bit :(.

It's worse this time because I don't really know when we'll see each other next, I'm waiting to hear when I'll be having my knee op, and she's waiting to hear about having some kind of a foot procedure (hammertoe op?) so, meh. Probably not at Christmas, I doubt I'll be able to fly with a recovering knee, and my stepdad doesn't like coming here in the winter. Apparently it rains too much Hmm. We'll just have to see. On a happier note, JB and I are off to go visit DH in California on Thursday, and are going to spend a day at Disneyland. Will be thinking of you CMOT :)

Happy anniversary UniS :)

Thumbwitch · 02/11/2011 02:45

Welcome Balletpump! Glad you could join us here. :)

JM - :( re your mum going home but glad you had her to stay. Woohoo! to visiting Disneyland - that's a heck of a long way to go for a short time though, isn't it? How long are you staying in California for?

Maud - that house sounds fab! I am torn between liking my Steptoe's Aladdin's Cave style house (yes, it has been described by "friends" as both) and having one like the Addams Family.

Bean - I don't know - how are his ears? and tonsils? is he having any balance issues as well? Any foods that might be bringing it on? Could he have intestinal migraine? All ideas that could be explored if he continues to be randomly sick.

UniS - I had one Very Bad idea - can you source some crystal meth?? Wink
Or some soda crystals (probably more easily got from a village shop, to be fair) - or does the shop do any of those lead crystal window hanging things, that make rainbows when the sun shines through? Or perhaps some natural crystal (again unlikely in a village shop, sadly). Sugar = crystals - perhaps they have some rock sugar? Perhaps not. :(
Happy Anniversary anyway - 15 years - woohoo!

CMOTD - sorry you are in pain again. Have you local painkilly stuff to rub on the sore bits?

Donki - I did :) at the idea of carving swedes! Yes, loads harder than pumpkins, I'll bet!

Off to the post office in a mo to post a card from the Lost Dog to Balletpump's DS. :)

Jacksmania · 02/11/2011 04:18

CMOT, can you get one of those straps to support your tennis elbow? I forget what they're called but they're for any form of epicondylitis, where a muscle is strained at its tendinous attachment. You ace the strap about an inch distal (so toward the finger tips) from the joint, quite snugly. In effect, the strap creates a sort of secondary attachment site for the overworked muscle, which allows the tendon attachment to rest. I don't know if that makes any sense. If you can't get one in the UK I'll find you one and airmail it to you.

Jacksmania · 02/11/2011 04:19

place the strap, not ace it
obviously
Stupid iPhone.

CMOTdibbler · 02/11/2011 09:04

I'm wearing my strap all the time JM Sad It does help a lot, but apparently my tendon is all nasty too. Having another steroid injection later
DH suggests you come over on holiday and you and he have knee surgery together Hmm

Happy anniversary UniS ! I'd make Mrunis a salt crystal growing in a jar

Jacksmania · 02/11/2011 14:43

Hmm... I doubt the NHS would cover the cost and anyway I really like my surgeon so I think I'd rather stick with him... maybe you and DH should come this way and the fab Dr. Horlick could take a look at DH? ;)
Anyway - shoot, you've had such a rough go :(
((((HUGS)))))

UniS · 02/11/2011 15:03

Found biscuits with crystallised ginger in , and also maple syrup, coz it goes all sugar crystal... packed in a SHINY sparkly box. accompanied with a very nice photo card of ice crystals on reeds in local boggy place.

Have been ofered some temporary Teaching assistant work!! mulling it over as is an age group I have not worked with much. Y3 when all my volunteer stuff and training was foundation stage.

amberlight · 02/11/2011 19:23

UniS, go for it! Y3s are lovely, generally.
CMOT, how are you doing with the pain right at the mo?
Hi to everyone else

CMOTdibbler · 02/11/2011 19:32

Def go for it UniS - Y3 not far outside your range after all.

Pain is not great today Amber - but had my elbow filled with steroids earlier so hopefully that will help. DS was vv happy to observe this.

Anyone for stilton and broccoli soup ? With gf bread.

How are you Amber ? DH took our landy for a service the other day, and said you'd love it at that garage - they specialise in landies and there were wiring diagrams everywhere with bits of old landies all over the place

amberlight · 02/11/2011 19:47

fingers crossed re the steroids, CMOT. Gah, wish we were further on with pain management as a planet, really I do.

I'd love some soup. Yes please.

How am I? (Those of a Stoic We Do Not Talk about Health disposition should look away now Grin ) I'm alrightish thanks. Last week they filled me with Herceptin superdrug for the first of 18 sessions (one every 3 weeks). there are side effects of nosebleeds and pain but nothing unexpected. Next week is the official start of the radiotherapy, it seems (still waiting for confirmation). As dh is now facing two eye operations in early Dec and can't see to drive, I'm going to be coping with that lot and also being driver and measurer and everything else-er for a good few months. So I've resigned today as a school Governor. But I'm still blessed with many lovely friends and family and a roof over my head and food on the table and a job I love with people I love working with, so life is pretty good really.

Wine to go with the soup? Anyone else? I see there are twiglets. And for our convenience the Bishops have eaten half of them Hmm

CMOTdibbler · 02/11/2011 19:57

You are amazing Amber - just make sure you don't overload yourself, and don't underestimate just how trying it is to be going forward and backward for radiotherapy everyday. If you wanted some radiotherapy info about the process etc this is quite a good resource Wink

Those bloomin bishops nicking our twiglets . I was just garnishing the soup with them.

amberlight · 02/11/2011 20:27

No garnishing the soup with Bishops! Oh, the twiglets, you mean Blush

Nothing amazing about me. I think the word you were looking for was something between 'bizarre' and 'just plain weird', but thank you. Oooo, info!!! Thanks!!!!

UniS · 02/11/2011 20:37

I'm going to accept the work. After all these Y3s are the Y2s I supervised at lunch times last year and I know a few of them as big sibs of boys friends. Had a chat with the TA i'll be covering for about her role and what she actually does and how the teacher is for directing the team.

OP posts:
ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/11/2011 21:03

Y3 are quite cute, really.
