Welcome aboard.

The first rule of the tea room is - No fisticuffs.
The second rule is - Put the kettle on and lets have a Brew or open a bottle of Wine if its that time of day. Pull a sofa and relax. Parents of one, more (or less) children are welcome to hop on board and chat about anything and nothing. Introduce yourself if new and if you name change give us clue please.

::::

Oh, JM, that does sound rather wibble-making, even if you know it'll all be Ok in the end.

Have some Wine and some Thanks.

Jacksmania · 13/10/2011 22:30

Oh, I do really heart you all. Just feeling a bit :( and wibbly right now.

LittleDeerandMe · 13/10/2011 22:35

Sorry to hear that JM. When will the surgery be?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 13/10/2011 22:43

::Dispenses more Wine and Thanks and heads off to bed::

UniS · 13/10/2011 23:13

Isn't the priest hole through that port hole over there? the one with a rope ladder dangling through it and a dumb waiter alongside so we can send down supplies.

Tho "where" the priest hole IS, I do not know, It may be temporarily in a different universe and that port hole is actually a polite black hole.

JM. Re 1/2 sister I would spend your life as normal - perhaps take one day off - and explain that she's very welcome to use your home as a base, but that you cannot afford to take all the time off work... Re knee - doesn't sound good - but I hope things turn out to be the easy option.

CMot - Brother - definitely not good - lack of long journey good though.

Jacksmania · 14/10/2011 00:10

Op most likely in December. Which is ok as it is a slow time for work anyway.

mistlethrush · 14/10/2011 11:58

Spicy pumpkin soup with cottage rolls? (MC likes sticking his finger in the top to stick the two bits together, so we've got remarkably 'normal' looking rolls today)

I think I might have persuaded DH to take up Karate with mc. Will wait and see if he actually manages to get out of bed in time tomorrow morning. Would be really good for his fitness and give mc someone to practise with.

JM - not a nice thing to look forward to. However, on a positive note, it does sound as though he thought that he'd actually be able to do something - even if it requires more work than initially thought when it comes to it.

UniS · 14/10/2011 14:21

ohh spicy pumpkin soup- fa, and what nice rolls.

Its gonna be a busy weekend- MiL arrives this afternoon while boy and and I are at swimming. DH and I are out for a meal tonight. tomorrow is next twon carnival and boy is doing teh kids parade in afternoon and wants to watch evening parade, DH has a concert with Choir in teh evening too. Sunday we could be doing 3 things in the morning.... I'll see you all on teh other side.

I think I was doing my mental rambling in a hurry yesterday so I don't know how coherent I was - the surgeon thinks there is an 80% chance that he can do just a scope and repair and that the problem is just a tear in the posterior meniscus.

But he needed me to know that there is a very small chance that the entire meniscus is unstable and in that case it would be the bigger op with 6 weeks on crutches.

So mostly likely it will be the relatively minor op (as much as anything under general anaesthetic is minor).

I told my yoga studio yesterday and they were really good about it. In fact they were great about either possibility. They just said "well, let us know, we'll manage!" Lovely people.

I'd like to contribute turkey shepherd's pie to the menu today. Made with yummy left-overs from Tuesday's very lovely Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey and gravy on the bottom, roasted veg in the middle and sour-cream-and-garlic mashed potatoes on top. With bread crumbs and butter drizzled on.

Any takers?

Winetime. Who's with me?

Jacksmania · 14/10/2011 19:43

That looks like a nice wine, Scout. It would go well with a heaping plate of TSP. Here you go!

Have just spent the last two hours tearing my hair out over a stupid software update for my phone and computer. Gah!!! I think it's finally done.

Yes please to Wine, and lots of it.

JB is at gymnastics right now and I'm enjoying their internet connection. Then we're going to the grocery store, and then we're both having haircuts. I'm also having some colour to cover up the bloody grey but he's obviously not [hgrin]

Scout19075 · 14/10/2011 19:52

MMMM, lovely TSP. Nom nom nom.

Am VERY hungry. Realized I haven't had breakfast or lunch. Went to make slow-cooker shephard's pie and the meat was a bit funny so waiting for MrScout to come home with new meat so I can cook/eat. He told me this morning he was going to be home to put TS to bed tonight. HAHAHAH. I should have known he wouldn't be.

TS needs his hair cut again. Might try to get it done next week before his birthday "celebrations" so he's tidied-up a bit for birthday pictures.

Scout19075 · 14/10/2011 19:56

I should add I'm not that vain about TS but his hair's getting in his eyes again so I'd like to see pictures of his sparkly eyes & cheeky grin for his birthday, not a faceful of shaggy hair.

amberlight · 14/10/2011 20:39

.

Anyone for ballroom dancing later? I see Mellors is in his best bib and tucker?

No breakfast or lunch? I'd be fainted away on the floor. No good at missing meals.
Wine!! Hurrah!

Grr re misbehaving knees.

beanandspud · 14/10/2011 21:04

Did someone mention Wine? Yes please!

We are just waiting for our Friday curry to arrive so I'd better not have too much TSP!

Hope the op is the simpler version JM - any sort of recovery time is a pain when you have a small person to run after.

We don't have too much planned for the weekend. Football for Small Bean tomorrow morning and if the weather stays nice we might take him to Thomas Land on Sunday as we have some vouchers to use up before the end on November.

I was absolutely mortified when I picked Small Bean up from nursery tonight. Just as his friend's dad arrived to collect him he turned round and (shaking his head) loudly announced that "X hasn't had a very good day today" and then walked off. It turns out that X hasn't had a great day as has been hitting some of the other children but I had to try to get DS to understand that it wasn't his job to report on other children's behaviour BlushBlushBlush.

Scout19075 · 14/10/2011 21:20

After our food poisoning in July we've stopped Friday Night Chinese Take Out. Probably for the best, really. Though I REALLY want an ooey-gooey pizza, the likes I can only get at home. Ho-hum. I settled for homemade burgers and chips tonight instead.

Must have been the day for toddlers having bad days. There was a lot of crying at the Little Explorers group this morning (not TS, other tots).

Just curious, at what age/s did everyone start time out with their small people?

beanandspud · 14/10/2011 21:34

Scout - it's all a bit of a blur but I think we started 'time out' with Small Bean when he was about 2.5. We didn't/don't use it often but it was useful when he went through a phase of pushing/hitting when he didn't get his own way.

Occasionally now he will be asked to go and "think about his behaviour" and when we have phases of cheekiness/silliness we go with "once is funny, twice is silly and third time you think about your behaviour" - we very rarely get to three times!

Scout19075 · 14/10/2011 21:41

Saw a girl today try to put her daughter in time-out for being naughty (fair enough, I thought) but the girl isn't even 18 months old yet. To me I don't think >18 months old babies know how to be naughty for the sake of being naughty or that time-out would be effective. Maybe it's just me and obviously everyone can parent their own way but it was painful for me to watch/hear.

Thzumbazombiewitch · 14/10/2011 21:54

Evening all!

JM - try and arrange a week away for your birthday so that you don't have to accommodate the spoilt brat! Seriously, there is no way you have to accept her demands, just tell her you won't be there during that time, sorry an' all but she'll have to think again or go to a hotel. You can say no - it's ok, honestly!
FX that the knee thing is the simple version and that it all works splendidly and you'll be back doing the lotus position in no time [hwink]

CMOTD - bah to pathetic brother but relief about not having to do the long journey, hey. I have a pathetic brother as well but at least he wanted people to come and see his newborn babies. Not bothered much after that but that may be because we didn't all bow down and worship at their throne (yes, really, he did expect that - he was very apparently pissed off that my sis managed to provide my parents with their first grandchild ahead of him [hhmm])

Scout - have you tried making your own pizza? We have a decent pizza base recipe using spelt flour (not necessary for you I know) and have pizza night about once a fortnight - miniThumb and I have one, MrThumb has the other (we don't do tomato either but he does) - it's one of our favourite mealtimes!

Bean - miniThumb is of a similar nature to smallbean by the sound of it - whenever a "bad boy" is doing something wrong, he will a) call him a bad boy (I don't know why, he never gets called a bad boy!) and b) join in when the "bad boy" is being told off (parroting whatever the parent is saying). Of course I stop him as soon as I hear but sometimes they aren't all immediately close by.

UniS - your weekend sounds manic! hope you have a good time and aren't completely exhausted by it all!

MT - good luck with getting DH to karate - I've tried in the past to interest MrThumb in my activities but it hasn't worked - the only thing we can do is join in with his tennis if we all want to do the same leisure pastime.[hhmm]

We had a lovely day in Sydney at the Aquarium, meeting up with some Sydney MNers. Hadn't quite realised the full impact of taking two nearly 4yos around though - they went completely feral! it was still fun though but very tiring so we ended up in bed before 9pm last night! normal for miniThumb but not for me [hshock]

Anyway - hot chocolate Brew for anyone?

Jacksmania · 15/10/2011 00:31

I'll have some hot choc, thanks! We just got back from the hair salon where JB sat all by himself on the booster seat with a cape around him and allowed my friend to cut his hair!!! [hshock]

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 15/10/2011 00:33

I can't see the pic, JM - MN says it is private - but anyway, aww! How cute!

::slurps hot chocolate and heads for bed::

Thzumbazombiewitch · 15/10/2011 00:58

That is the cutest thing, JM!! [hgrin]

Jacksmania · 15/10/2011 01:18

Oh, I just checked and it says it should be public. Could you check again?
