Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Good evening everyone!

Scout - hope the Wine helps. Cheers!

Mistle - I hope MC isn't going down with anything. I share your grumbles about doing the lion's share at home despite us both working full time. DH is pretty good when specifically asked to do something but just doesn't seem to notice what needs to be done. Small Bean will make an attempt to help but then declares it a Big Job and goes back to his trains.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon sounds like fun. As a bit of a newcomer to the tea room I was wondering what happens next.

::C&Ps recipe into folder of Useful Stuff::

Tee2072 · 11/05/2011 21:00

Sleeping dust to you Scout. We are thisclose to 2 and, as I was told by many, LCT is finally sleeping well. So hopefully the end is in site for you as well!

LeLapinSecret · 11/05/2011 22:36

SBoy's sleep was getting better but seems to be getting worse again at the moment Shock - wonder if it's something to do with potty training, just in that it's a big change/developmental shift. (PT going extremely well, by the way, rather to my surprise.)

But he's just so utterly yummy that I seem to be able to put up with most of the sleep deprivation!

His favourite thing on YouTube at the mo is which he loves. I particularly like the rap part of it Grin. We do enjoy the odd persuse of YT together, there's so much great stuff for kids and he loves the fact he can now choose and click on things he wants to see himself for a little while, if I'm getting on with something else. Have to watch out nothing dodgy comes on tho, some apparent nursery rhymes are distincly inappropriate.

Oh, and , I quite like the absurdity of it too!

Serpent, have looked at Wilton House and it looks gorgeous, and would love to meet up, but would take me well over two hours each way so really not practicable for a day trip. Am still up for meeting up in London though but have no knowledge of the Other Place (and if it's FB, I'm not on it, so not much good there). So contact is only on here/pm for me.

Btw, serpent, did you ever look into Groupon? Any good deals round your way?

Thanks for the offer of nightcap the other night, Maud, sorry to miss it but will Wine to your health tonight! And to everyone else's while I'm at it! Cheers!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/05/2011 22:42

Hiya, Lapin! I loooove YT. Your links reminded me of . I want Sid to come to my birthday party and start the dancing!

Scout19075 · 11/05/2011 23:14

TS is usually very good at sleeping/settling. The last few days, not so good. His "routine" (it's loose) is all messed up and I've found it's taken him up to two hours to go to sleep (9 p.m.) and he's still up at 5:30 a.m.. Then he has a morning sleep because he hasn't had enough sleep which pushes back his normal afternoon sleep (but he's so cranky he needs it) and so starts the cycle again. I'm thinking of putting up the (travel) blackout blinds I bought last year when he was still a bit newer and he didn't need them in the end. He and I both need sleep!

Does anyone know how often to water/how moist sunflower seeds need to be kept to sprout? The seed packet doesn't tell me. I'd really like TS's seeds to sprout since he loved the digging and was facinated by the wheat in the wheat field we walked through today.

LeLapinSecret · 11/05/2011 23:17

lol Maud, they still show those except this year they've redone them all, and I just happened to catch the 3 one today, by chance - same thing but both Sid and Andy have noticeably longer hair! Have you seen Sid's dreads? And do you really have a birthday approaching or was that just an image, as it were?

Will have to wait till the morrow for your response as am about to log off now this minute. G'night - and if we're not still in Venice, see you inna Babylon!

LeLapinSecret · 11/05/2011 23:18

And G'night Scout too

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 11/05/2011 23:32

Yes, Lapin, I saw Sid's dreads yesterday when Girl was channel-hopping and paused on CBeebies (which she usually disdains). My birthday isn't any time soon, and I don't always have a party, but nevertheless dancing with Sid is a nice daydream, as he dances well and looks as if he's enjoying it!

Scout - Keep the seeds just moist - if they're too wet they will rot. And watch out for slugs and snails. Every sunflower plant I've ever grown from seed has been cut off in its prime by the pesky molluscs.

Good night both!

Scout19075 · 12/05/2011 06:15

Thanks Maud! Are slugs & snails a huge worry if the seeds have been planted in giant planter and not in the earth?

TS went to sleep about 9-ish (ugh) and I've been hearing him since 4:15/30-ish. Double ugh. Though just did his bum, milk, tooth gel (those molars are speeding in once they've cut but they're making him uncomfortable) and put him back to bed. To be fair he was just happy chattering before but's he's gone quiet. I know he's not sleeping but....

Tee2072 · 12/05/2011 07:07

Much sympathy, Scout. LCT woke me up crying in the hall (!) at 4am. First time he's managed to get out of bed on his own. There is a stairgate on his door, but we've never bothered to close it at night! Neither one of us got back to sleep. yawn...

Scout19075 · 12/05/2011 07:52

TS didn't go back to sleep and is now having more drink and Cheerios and cuddles. He looks shattered but wouldn't give in.

We haven't had climbing out yet.

Poor Tee -- will you be able to nap later?

Tee2072 · 12/05/2011 08:07

Scout LCT and Mr Tee are off to daycare in exactly 15 minutes. In exactly 16 minutes I will be back in bed. Grin

Scout19075 · 12/05/2011 08:08
amberlight · 12/05/2011 08:48

Enjoy that nap, Tee!

I'm still celebrating yesterday's news from the wilds of the medical team rooms suggesting that the new results on me mean a 93% chance of success. That's what I call a cheerful prospect. Who's for a celebratory Brew and a nice view of Mellors polishing the yacht?

mistlethrush · 12/05/2011 10:35

I was woken at silly o'clock in the night (didn't open eyes to look at clock) my mistlechick bundling out of his room (in the dark) and saying, loudly: 'Mummy, I'm dead'. Unsurprisingly I answered 'no you're not' and he then announced that he was going to the toilet - I'm not sure whether I was meant to ahve got up so that I could 'check' - but I didn't....

Announced to DH that I was going to walk the dog in the morning - cheerily told him I was getting up when mc and I went downstairs - mc got his breakfast ready whilst I unloaded the dishwasher - once I'd eaten my muesli shouted upstairs that i was going and went..... MC dressed, teeth brushed, drink drunk and snack prepared by the time I got back... pity he hadn't been to the toilet and got rather desperate on the way into school, but otherwise a sucessful morning, and feel much better for it! Grin

TheWestCoastLotus · 12/05/2011 15:55

Good morning all.
How is everyone?
It's sunny here today which is delightful after yesterday's torrential rain in which I was driving all day... ahhh, a beautiful spring day in the Pacific North West Hmm.
Not working today, one of my instructors from chiro college is here to give a lecture on Advanced Diagnostic Imaging at U of British Columbia, so I'm off to that in a few hours. I'm going to show him the x-rays of my low back, to see what he thinks... and what he thinks the next step should be. More than anything, I'm looking forward to hearing him speak, he's a great nuts-and-bolts radiologist, gets down to the basics very quickly and picks out what's important for students to know and then teaches them what to do with that knowledge. Only downside: it takes me around 1.5 hours to get to UBC from here, more depending on traffic through the tunnel in Richmond. Fortunately I'm going mid-day and coming back after 8:30 pm so should be able to avoid rush hour congestion.
Have a lovely day everyone!
xoJM

amberlight · 12/05/2011 16:03

Alright thanks. That sounds like a very decent lecture, JM, especially if he has some ideas.
MT, hooray re successful morning.
All gone to hell in a handbasket here (to use a great expression) with staff in hysterics over personal stuff, computers breaking down, and me trying to get everything done before going away for a wild weekend with dh tomorrow.
I think that demands Brew

TheWestCoastLotus · 12/05/2011 16:10

or Wine?

amberlight · 12/05/2011 16:30

Or both, but not in the same glass

TheWestCoastLotus · 12/05/2011 16:33

Hmm, DH likes Scotch in his coffee... but wine in coffee/tea? Ewwww.

Tee2072 · 12/05/2011 17:57

I'll take a Wine. Been doing the company end of year accounts most of the day (after my nap Grin). I am thisclose to being done so going to crack on after LCT is in bed.

Have fun Lotus!

Sounds like a stressful day Amber. I hope you are resting when you need to. ::stern look::

Broccoli and blue cheese tart should be nearly ready...

LeLapinSecret · 12/05/2011 18:49

Great news, Amber.

Broccoli and blue cheese tart sounds delish, shame MrS is so... shall we say "unadventurous" in his tastes. I think his taste buds got trapped in a 1950's time warp. Tis sausage and mash for us tonight! Grin

SBoy made my bosom swell with pride today - while a friend was round here he got out his alphablocks plastic letters, and started playing with them, and she asked if he could make any words with them. Good lord no, I said, not yet - and he promptly made a 3-letter word all by himself with no prompting whatsover! (a name from one of his fave tv progs). I was rather gobsmacked, in an awfully nice way.

Maud - I hear what you're saying. Smile
