Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Sounds intersting UniS I don't have any hats that let my ears stick through - it's always a bit difficult finding hats to fit them.

UniS · 09/05/2011 22:26

best suits indeed from teh bishops BUT have you seen what teh NMBs are wearing now!!!

Donki- My dear, of course you should have a hat with ear holes, preferably a straw hat with flowers on so you have a handy snack in case of emergency. like this

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/05/2011 22:30

That looks rather like the hat that Girl has just spent her birthday money on.

Donki · 09/05/2011 23:10

That hat looks very tasty pretty. Just the hat for a Donki! Grin

Catitainahatita · 09/05/2011 23:29

Well tomorrow is Mother's Day in Mexico. I have the day off as a result. Hurrah!
Nice to see you CMOT. I hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Donki · 09/05/2011 23:35

By the way Amber , can YD borrow Tractors (and Machinery) when you have finished with it?

Donki · 09/05/2011 23:35

Happy Mother's Day Catita.

Scout19075 · 10/05/2011 06:14

Happy Mothers Day!

amberlight · 10/05/2011 07:35

Donki, of course he may!

I've put Brew on for everyone.

DutchOma · 10/05/2011 07:45

Just a note on felting:- have a look on the ball band of your yarn. Only if it is pure 100% wool that is NOT machine washable can you felt it. Any other yarn or if it has been treated to be machine washable will not felt.
If, on the other hand you want to cut holes in it to allow Donki's ears to pop through, that is entirely possible.

Scout19075 · 10/05/2011 07:59

mistle, send MC over! TS is facinated by kids bigger than him, but not really big ones (ie, my Seniors). If they're even only slightly bigger/older than him even better. He's not impressed with babies. At Tots yesterday 3 month old twins were wailing and half the toddlers went to investigate but not TS. He glanced over and took the opportunity to take a toy another kid had snatched from him.

Thanks for the Brew, amber!

Tee2072 · 10/05/2011 08:29

Happy Mother's Day, Catita!

Yes, please, Brew. We do believe some molars are making their appearance. Sleep was not had very much of last night. Was that English?!?!

Scout19075 · 10/05/2011 08:44

Oh Tee, I sympathize. Molar four was felt yesterday. Still no fangs though. Hmm

Tee2072 · 10/05/2011 08:51

Scout we seem to be getting bottom fangs and molars at the same time. ::faints::

Scout19075 · 10/05/2011 08:57

Oh... ouch, Tee! TS's swimming friend popped all four fangs and molars within a week or two of each other a few weeks ago. I really felt for her and her mom (who's pregnant and due in two weeks).

mistlethrush · 10/05/2011 11:49

Mistlechick appears to have got his molars coming through to the rear of his baby molars... not sure whether that's entirely normal before all the more front ones come through. Its amazing how the big teeth have worked their way forward though - was quite worried how far back his new central big teeth came through - significantly behind the baby teeth they were replacing (and obvious when baby teeth still in too) - but they've gradually shifted forwards!

Donki - I would like to meet Justa too - we've had some good chats. Nice neutral location probably best (although UniS invited me straight to her house last year Grin)(our house is not fit for visitors at present SadBlush) and I thought that you might feel at home there... Roundhay / Golden Acre also options - as is Harewood (have you got a card?)

Tee2072 · 10/05/2011 17:01

I have commented Maud!

I have also noted that we are coming up on 900 posts. Where shall we go next?!?!

Catitainahatita · 10/05/2011 17:05

Thanks! Kittenito is participating in the nursery mother's day show on Friday. I have finally got his costume together (he is going as an old man: I have no idea why) I shall show off photos when I can.
Mr. H is t applying for a job in the civil service (!) He has been doing the research and finds he has all the necessary qualifications plus experience. I'm all for it; apart from the fact that the job in question would mean moving even firther away from family and friends and would also be mean me becoming a SAHM for the foreseable future (not many unis where the job is). The pay is more than enough but I am still not over the moon. But still, in our situation you can't afford to be picky. Practically anything would be better than living here. So fingers crossed please.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/05/2011 17:10

Fingers very much crossed here, Catita. Safety is (quite literally) priceless.

Tee - How about ancient Babylon? Mellors could be kept busy, tending the hanging gardens and we could all recline on couches, eating apricots. (You can probably tell that I was up late last night watching Oliver Stone's Alexander).

UniS · 10/05/2011 20:43

evening all. I'm being serenaded! DH has a choir rehearsal, here. I was meant to be bell ringing but no one else showed up, so I took a little bike ride instead. Mnd you its not teh most interesting rehearsal, they are just working on one piece, just the T B & B sections.

Hat will felt OK, tis all real wool, from the falklands! lovely wool, a gift of left overs from a fellow knitter. Next project may be knitting chain mail. Boys knight dress up outfit could do with some chain mail. I have some 20mm needles, just need some chunky grey wool.

Good on Mr Cat for looking outside his current field for work in a different part of the country. SAHM isn't all that bad really.

Any one got idea for getting boy engaged with reading books from school?? hes happy enough to read Dr Suess but not keen on teh twaddle that passes for school first readers. Not happy to sit still and concentrate on his reading either :-( So he sounds a word out CVC then guesses at it being a completely different word with same initial letter. He hasn't twigged that to get more interesting books he has to demonstrate his ability on these dull ones. When I ask him to read sentences on the fridge ( magnet words) no problem, words on cereal boxes he will have a good go at.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 10/05/2011 21:22

UniS - In the end, I was frank with Girl and said that I knew the books from school were too simple and mind-achingly dull, but she had to read them so that she could get on with reading something more interesting at home and at school. That was much more persuasive than trying to convince myself and her that there was any point in reading them, besides my being able to write in the reading diary that she had. So, we would dutifully spend five minutes on the school's dull tome and then get on with something more appealing.

What's this about felting? I saw someone doing it on the telly the other night and it looked like good clean, wet fun.

TheWestCoastLotus · 10/05/2011 21:41

Hello everyone, apologies for absence, crazy busy weekend (but great yoga teacher training), now have some kind of coughing lurgy. My lungs keep wanting to escape upward with each cough.

Donki · 10/05/2011 22:41

Catita
Crossing hooves, ears and other appendages for you.

(SiL family is in Oaxaca, and SiL's sisters husband was kidnapped for ransom.)

Catitainahatita · 10/05/2011 23:12

Donki :( :( I'm sorry to hear that. I hope he was returned more or less unharmed (at least physically anyway). Things are pretty nasty here: we've got a whole new language to describe "the violence" as it is euphemistically called: "levantado" ("lifted") usually by the narcos or sometimes the police; it is a softer version of "desaparecido" ("disappeared") made famous by Pinochet and the Argentinian dictators. If you disappear they don't find your body. If they lift you, they might. Sadly only you are really lucky will it be a "straightforward" kidnapping. A friend of mine has gone to visit her mother's grave in her home town (it being MD here). As it is in a particularly nasty area she's keeping in touch hourly by twitter and telephone. It won't help much in the event of anythning happening, but it makes you feel like someone is keeping tabs on you.

Oh and I like the idea of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I think Mellors and the Bishops will have a whale of a time.
