Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Happy Mother's Day! It's Mother's Day in at least Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US! Grin

Brew

Good morning. Grin

teafortwo · 08/05/2011 11:06

Happy Mothers Day!!!

We are in recovery mode after eating and drinking out with some bad influences dear friends last night!

Blush

Off to a museum today with school friends... we just need to work out which museum!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/05/2011 15:06

A very happy Mothers' day to those for whom it is Mothers' day. And to the rest of us too. Why not?

CMOTdibbler · 08/05/2011 17:39

Hello all - am back home after the surgery. In spite of a local block (applied while under ga) it hurt rather a lot so I stayed in last night. Hospital staff were lovely.

amberlight · 08/05/2011 19:09

CMOT, so pleased you're back home...how does it feel now?
Have a relaxing massage from Mellors whilst you recline on the distressed chintz sofa and we bring you whatever it is you need?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/05/2011 19:38

Mellors has just open some Wine, if that would help, Cmot.

Donki · 08/05/2011 21:20

Amber

Reports from CofE friends have it that the ABY is rather a nice fellow too... but I can't speak from personal experience, having only ever seen him in the distance.

CMOT Glad you are back - I hope you make a speedy recovery.

A belated happy Mothers' Day to the North American contingent (is it Mothers' Day in Mexico too Catita?)

I had an energetic day - I got my new bike

This afternoon I 'christened' it (so to speak) by going for a leisurely bike ride with the YD. He hasn't got the hang of going steadily yet, dashes off at ninety to the dozen one minute, then slams on the brakes the next. Nor has he got the hang of gears. The end result being that one fairly fit YD was exhausted, and a very un fit Donki was still fresh as a daisy when we got back. Grin

He is sleeping well now...

I really like my bicycle. A huge thankyou to DH for a wonderful Christmas present (and only 5 months late....)

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 08/05/2011 21:43

Catita, "Mexico has a culture which is anxious to please, afraid of offending you and ridiculously and hypocritically submissive to authority." I am a Mexican!! Shock

Scout, have I missed the opportunity to send you Wriggle, who is being vile to me experimenting with asserting her own personality?

Donki, I have just given DH his birthday present of a concrete mixer (only 3 months late).

Where am I in the family hierarchy? Well below Papa, Kirikou, Papa, anything Wriggle wants, anything anyone else needs, Papa, anything Wriggle wants, Papa ... (repeat infinitely.)

CMOT, take Anica. Helps healing, if you like that kind of thing; can't do any harm if you don't.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/05/2011 21:55

I have just been reminded (I've long been aware of this) that my presents to Bloke are always very dull. I wonder whether he'd like a concrete mixer?

Perhaps part of the joy of the tea room is that here we can be (jointly and severally) top of the priority list for as long as we're here.

Scout19075 · 08/05/2011 22:04

Serp, send her over. I fear she will be very bored and will go to sleep quickly -- TS is sleeping, MrScout is getting ready for bed and I am in bed. Oh, and don't tell MrScout you gave your DH a concrete mixer, he might get ideas.

CMOT, glad you're on the road to recovery -- was thinking of you yesterday and on the way home tonight, wondering how you were getting on.

Scout19075 · 09/05/2011 09:07

I am still very crabby -- do you think a morning at toddlers will help or make things worse? I think TS could do with some new toys, easels and other toddlers to follow around. I'm not sure I can handle the non-communicative, glaring other mothers. Though I do like watching TS play with different toys and paint, etc.

UniS · 09/05/2011 09:07

belated mothers day wishes to all for whom they are culturally appropriate.

Physio apt this morning, then school lunch duty.

speedy recovery wishes to you CMOT.

Amber- how you doing this week, take things gently.

DutchOma · 09/05/2011 09:13

Has the Pope gone home?

Donki · 09/05/2011 09:26

I wondered where all the Bishops had gone....

amberlight · 09/05/2011 10:33

The Pope??! Shock Was he here?! I suppose we are in Italy...

Scout, I think Toddlers will make it worse, but I could be wrong.

UniS, I'm doing alright thanks except for the usual steroid-crash-withdrawal wobbliness right now thanks. At work but at least that stops me doing silly things!

Can I have a concrete mixer too?

Scout19075 · 09/05/2011 13:31

Well, Tot Time didn't make the mood worse but I'm not bubbly, either. It was good for TS, though, who kept studying slightly older/more capable boys and he got to do one of his favorite things -- paint at an easel. And my anti-fruit TS ate his apple chunks and tried a strawberry (after much investigation of it). So a good morning.

Hate having our printer/scanner in TS's room. Have lots to do with it but he's having a nap. Oh well, I'll go check on the laundry and prep the big flower pots outside (the front door) so they're ready for TS to plant/water his seeds when he wakes up.

UniS · 09/05/2011 13:51

Waves.

Raining and sunny at same time here, grr, . still, it stayed dry for school lunchtime which is a blessing.

mistlethrush · 09/05/2011 15:34

Amber - I picked up a magazine for you whilst at Reading station on Sun am waiting for a train to go up to London for the rehearsal - Tractors (and machinery). Looked just your thing.

CMot - hoping you a speedy recovery.

Scout - if you need toddlers supervised and instructed, I'll send over mistlechick - he would love to have lots of small children to sort out and show how to put lego together etc. He does like sandpits, painting, gardening and general 'making' too if that might go down well?

Donki - perhaps we should meet up at the Donkey sanctury at some stage? We really ought to see if we can also get Justabout there too! It does seem silly that I've met up with someone who lives over 300 miles away and not with the person that lives in vaguely the same area....

WCL/ JM - alternative suggestion.... There are lots of 'crafty' people in the tearoom - how about telling us what the size of the offending logo is, and what colours would go with the jacket nicely and see if any of us can come up wtih a suggestion for a logo-covering addition?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 09/05/2011 15:36

Hello everyone. I have ginger cake if that helps anyone with anything and Mellors is making some tea. Form an orderly queue.

amberlight · 09/05/2011 15:47

Yes please to ginger cake and tea.

::sits down to read Tractors (and Machinery) with great enthusiasm::

Donki · 09/05/2011 15:57

That could be a Plan mistlethrush - I've been intending to see Justa again for months.... Blush

Donki · 09/05/2011 16:48

If anyone is interested in justice and penal reform, could I direct your attention to this thread here

Tee2072 · 09/05/2011 17:03

Afternoon all.

Very busy here today with work, physio, more work and the dentist. At least LCT's screaming meant the hygienist could check his teeth. Hmm Molars coming through, last two front just sticking up, looking very clean. [proud mummy who admits she holds him down to brush them emoticon]

Scouts I wish I could convince myself I would enjoy LCT enjoying toddler groups but I just so hate that sort of thing! Ah well, 2 full days at daycare give him plenty of other children and things to do!

The Pope? Did the Bishops at least get dressed after their dip this time?!?! Shock

amberlight · 09/05/2011 17:19

Oh yes, fully dressed and in best outfits, by the look of it. Phew!

UniS · 09/05/2011 21:54

Thats handy, I'd hate for teh pope to have to meet our bishops in teh altogether. Or worse, in Speedos.

I have knitted a hat, but it went a bit wrong, donki, would you like me to cut some ear holes in it? it might be good to shade your eyes. I will try felting it ( no idea how, but there must bea tutorial online) to see if I can do a major reshape and shrink job.
