Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

1001 replies

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

Due to friends calling as we were braving the school uniform shop to say their house sale/purchase had finally gone through (it was supposed to be Monday, so has been a mare), we whizzed down to them as they were trying to pack and move all their stuff with a 4 yr old and only the help of her parents (only moving 200m, but still) instead of landy shopping. Oxeye, I guess your dh has an intimate relationship with Defenders. DH dreams of an overland trek in one.

I'm working next week - ds is at school, so I need to do some. DH has been signed off for another 3 months though

Seems like the children have gone to sleep now - at least, silence reigns upstairs..

amberlight · 21/04/2011 20:28

Oxeye, excellent re hols! Boo re having to work next week though. Me too. I need to stop being nice to the staff and make them work instead of me.

Ah, excellent, Wine

Just the thing! Form a queue now, no pushing...I say, steady on, one at a time...!

UniS · 21/04/2011 20:38

BOy told teh dentist yesterday that, he wants to be a racer , when he grows up. Asked what kind of racer , he replied, "ALL kinds of vehicles, I'll be super speedy" Oh dear, there goes teh carbon footprint... His "love" live is also complicated. M wants to marry him, he IS married to N but when he's a grown up wants to marry O , P rather fancys him and thinks he is dashing and prince like.... you get teh picture.
Maybe he will turn out gay, It might be simplest.

oh, Mistle- forgot to thank you for the school shorts, they have been just the ticket the last couple of hot weeks of term. I noticed MCs name in a pair still when I hung them on the line last week.

::Grabs some Wine::

::Clasps Oxeye to her ample bosom, lurching slightly as she does::

Well done on stepping away from the work. Yippeeeeee for holidays!

WestCoastLotus · 21/04/2011 20:51

Happy Easterbunny everyone [busmile]

You all know who I am... have been struggling with my MN identity, we'll see how long this name change lasts. [buwine], anyone? Although it's just past lunch here in Canada... [bugrin].

WestCoastLotus · 21/04/2011 20:52

What, no bunny wine????

Ok, let's try this:
[bugrin]
Wine

WestCoastLotus · 21/04/2011 20:53

Hmmm. Not what I anticipated.

amberlight · 21/04/2011 20:55

:: a slightly trampled Amber wonders why there is an evil bunny's head in the top of her glass::

WestCoastLotus · 21/04/2011 21:05

Does the bunny look evil?? [bushock]

LeLapinSecret · 21/04/2011 21:07
mistlethrush · 21/04/2011 22:43

Its the good thing about the tearoom and the priest's hole - everyone keeps an eye on you to make sure you're OK, but leaves you to the solitude if that's what you want.

Can I interest you in a glass of wine now you're out though?

teafortwo · 21/04/2011 22:50

[buhmm] [busmile] [buwink]

UniS · 21/04/2011 22:53

evening all. Going to have mad baking frenzy tomorrow, any one want hot cross buns??

beanandspud · 21/04/2011 23:02

Yes please! Better than cross evil bunnies.

ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 21/04/2011 23:07

Oooh, yes please, UniS. Could I have honey on mine?

WestCoastLotus · 22/04/2011 01:13

Why are the buns cross? [buconfused]?

WestCoastLotus · 22/04/2011 01:24

By the way, if you're bored, I started a thread in Chat about my day today [buangry][bublush]

amberlight · 22/04/2011 08:22

Am I too late for a hot cross bun? [buangry]
They do look hot and cross, blimey!

amberlight · 22/04/2011 09:46

Oh my! One of my real life Bishops is all over the press today with his thoughts on Church schools and how he thinks they should only accept a tiny fraction from Christian families and open up to the rest of the community. He's setting this as the new national guidance for the schools. Bet there'll be some debate on that.

MaryBS · 22/04/2011 09:49

Yes I saw that. Perhaps he hasn't experienced the bullying Christian kids get in non-faith schools sometimes (and yes bullying goes on in faith schools too, but not usually for your faith). Which is why I'm glad DD is going to a faith school. And I think he's a twerp.

ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 22/04/2011 10:07

.... and yet the C of E school at which I'm a governor only fills about half its places with children admitted under the church-attending criteria and the remaining places are open, so we're already halfway there. I did wonder whether that Bish was a chum of yours, Amber!

thumbbunny · 22/04/2011 11:04

just advertising that this smiley is still around
[bubear]
I take it the Brew doesn't get ears either? [bubrew]

Hurrah for holidays and other lovely things; boo for needing to use the priesthole and bullying etc.

Am a bit peed off today. Has been a bad day with MrT. C'est la vie - anticipating another bad one tomorrow (always the way when he spends any time around his brother) and then hopefully things will improve after that. [busad]

Tee2072 · 22/04/2011 11:05

I assume this 'rest of the community' action with the schools wouldn't apply to NI. So much doesn't thanks to it's past, current and, unfortunately, future. Especially with the following campaign posters all over town at the minute:

SECT
ARIA
NISM
Is not gone yet
Workers Party.

Hmm
ComeIntoTheEasterGardenMaud · 22/04/2011 11:12

I assume, Tee, that what the Bish of Oxford is proposing would only apply to England. As you say, NI is a completely different kettle of fish.

amberlight · 22/04/2011 11:44

Fair enough, Mary Grin. If you and he are at the same events again I'm sure you can tell him that Wink. Me, I'm in favour, as the same kids would have the same chance of good teaching and anti-bullying policy from those same schools but opening it out to more of the children who stand no chance of getting in otherwise.
