Tearoom 25 - Benvenute a Venezia!

1001 replies

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:28

YOu find us this time in a glorious palazzo in Venice, near to St. Mark's square, and on the water. With gondolas and vaporetti in abundance to transport us around to the various sights etc.

The palazzo itself of course has marble floors and fabulous murano chandeliers but aside of that we have the usual distressed chintz comfy sofas, assorted animals, bishops in their corner, priesthole for emergencies and a single solitary aspidistra in a bomb-proof glass cage to protect it from the ravages of a certain Canadian.

All are welcome - drop by for a cuppa, a glass of something stronger and a chat and relax in the safe and kind surroundings here.

Cin cin! Wine

I refuse to believe it, amber. Toddler is going to remain little forever. I've told him he's not allowed to grow bigger any more.

Tee2072 · 21/04/2011 07:42

Let me know how that works out for you, Scout! Grin

LCT is full of snot and fever so no nursery for him today. I'm worried it will move to his chest right in the middle of the holidays.

This afternoon, though, I'm off for my first ever full body massage, a gift from my MIL. Anyone have any tips or pointers?!?!

amberlight · 21/04/2011 08:01

Full body? The whole thing? Oh my!

I tend to do such things for other people (not quite full body!), but never had one from a professional other than back/shoulders one.

teafortwo · 21/04/2011 08:23

I have no worries regarding Milk's choice in men.

Milk is already engaged to a very sweet and quiet London lad (from a very successful and clever (Mum and Dad went to Cambridge) Jewish family) who wants to be a pig farmer when he is all grown up. (I do however strongly suspect that the lad knows nothing of the engagement).

When he moved back to London Milk spent a week on and off sitting infront of the mirror sobbing and saying "My dearest darling! I miiiiisssss .........., I love .................... oh my dearest darling..." (note to self... don't let her watch 'Bright Star' again).

In terms of her career and family planning Milk now, cannot decide whether to be a "lady painter with six children" or a vet specializing in mice with one baby called Arthur. I did explain, given her future husband's career choice, it might be more sensible to be a vet specializing in pigs an given that farmers aren't really making money right now to maybe keep the number of mouths to feed quite low... but she of course wasn't having any of it!

Aaaah - I can just see them now aged twenty picnicing on the backs discussing Proust...

LOL - Actually, Milk is a party animal I am soooooo scared of what will happen once she discovers alcohol and boys!!!!

teafortwo · 21/04/2011 08:29

Tee - full body massage... WOW!!!!

I have never had a professional massage - I can't wait for you to tell us what it was like! x

MaryBS · 21/04/2011 08:44

I've had a full body massage - it was lovely!

CMOTdibbler · 21/04/2011 09:23

I love massages - but not wishy washy ones, it has to involve use of their elbows etc to feel good to me.

Off to look at Land Rovers today

amberlight · 21/04/2011 09:35

Ooo, what sort of Land Rovers??

mistlethrush · 21/04/2011 09:47

We'll have to have a proper tearoom meet up so nice tearoom boys can be paired off with nice tearoom girls Grin - mistlechick is still going to be a surgeon....

Wedding cake - family recipe amended a bit so that it would actually slice, so not quite as good as christmas cake (you need a spoon). Cooked by my mother, iced by my father (apparently its a bit like plastering) and decorated with preserved violets that we'd picked together - two references - lots of voilets around in the place that dh proposed (on a walk with my parents lol) and my mother's mother, my favourite grandmother, had a cake with crystalised voilets on for her 75th birthday - and she was the grandmother I would have loved to have been there but wasn't, although I'm sure she was in spirit.

However, we did things a bit differently - having been to too many weddings where you get to the reception and have to wait around for ages and there's one small glass of champagne warming up for you - then wedding cake when you're full after the meal - so we had our wedding cake with tea when people were arriving at the reception - big slab undecorated for cutting (and sponge option) - then when everyone was there we had the official cutting of the cake for the 2 layers.... I think that there are a few pictures with me in the middle of the courtyard (barn courtyard) with a teacup in one hand and bouquet in the other... Grin

CMOTdibbler · 21/04/2011 13:16

A Discovery 3 - model not exactly decided on, but obv an auto, and 3-4 years old. Then I need to decide on a horse trailer too

DS and I have been washing dpony this morning. Dpony did end up marginally wetter than ds I think. Dpony is sparkling white in the sun and has big flouncy mane now

amberlight · 21/04/2011 13:39

Can thoroughly recommend the diesel version with the auto box. Magnificent pulling power and mud-plugging abilities.
Mr T the horse hasn't had his full spring bath yet. He's enjoying his new rider, though.

teafortwo · 21/04/2011 13:50

"Magnificent pulling power" - ha ha ha Amber... I hear it isn't JUST your car that has that Wink Grin!!!

Shock!!!!

thumbbunny · 21/04/2011 14:00

Full body massage - I hate having them. Mostly because I lie there wondering what the massage therapist is doing (professional differences).
CMOTD - you'd have loved my massage then - deepest that most people had ever had. Sometimes that wasn't such a good thing - sometimes they preferred the lighter touch - but others were steadfast in their endurance loyalty and were very sad when I moved overseas.

Tee - um, expect to undress down to your knickers, most therapists will give you the choice of leaving those on. For FBM, some will give you the option of having your buttocks fully worked, or just the top part.(I found that I couldn't get a decent FBM done in the hour - so several of my clients used to come for 1.5h treatments so that I could do arms and legs as well as neck, back and shoulders. But that's because I used to spend a lot of time on people's necks.)
If you don't like the pressure the therapist is using, TELL THEM. Do not just lie there and put up with it.
If the therapist does anything you don't like, for whatever reason, TELL THEM. However, if it's just "oo that hurts", a decent therapist will carry on and tell you it's good for you. If it REALLY hurts, they might back off a bit. Feedback is useful though! Let them know which bits hurt.

Hope that is actually in useful time for you. Enjoy!

amberlight · 21/04/2011 14:52

Tea, I can't imagine what you mean Grin Wink

Just back from very strange consultation with one of my docs. He went into the waiting room and said "Mrs Amber please", and a completely different lady smiled and waved at him and went to stand up. He was confused, I was confused, and after a few moments, so was she! Then we lost the plot completely in the consultation room and fell about giggling. I do wish I'd have a normal effect on people around me once in a while...!

Scout19075 · 21/04/2011 16:45

(I hate, Hate, HATE those flying daddylongleg things. There's one in my house. Someone get it out!)

amberlight · 21/04/2011 16:53

I'll send small dog

Tee2072 · 21/04/2011 17:42

Little late but thanks Thumb.

I didn't really enjoy it. I didn't hate it, but it confirmed that I just don't like back massages. The legs/arms/hands/feet part was great. The back part just made me more tense. ::shrug:: No idea why!

Next time I'll just have a facial!

beanandspud · 21/04/2011 17:46

Hurray!!!! It's officially the weekend and the holidays!!!!

So looking forward to some time off. Anyone else in the holiday spirit?

Tee2072 · 21/04/2011 17:48

[bugrin]

That kinda puts me in the mood!!

beanandspud · 21/04/2011 17:55

Looks a bit like Evil Easter Bunny. How about [busmile]?

CMOTdibbler · 21/04/2011 18:59

I have acquired another child this evening - dh is helping her parents move house. This may have been a bad deal, but at least they have stopped singing now...

Scout19075 · 21/04/2011 19:02

I HATE the bleedin' ice cream trucks. Yes, truckS. There are two. They always start their music in front of my house. It's loud, the window's are open, Toddler just went to bed. [buangry] at evil ice cream van man! Very tempted to go and have words with him since it's EVERY RUDDY NIGHT!

Scout19075 · 21/04/2011 19:03

And breathe....

Scout19075 · 21/04/2011 19:16

Thanks for Small Dog, amber, he seems to have driven evil flying daddylongleg thing out of the house. And the bee/wasp (whatever you call them here!) out as well. Well done, Small Dog!

Oooh, Tee, I could do with a massage too! Last one I had (probably the only proper one) was while I was pregnant (about seven plus months and already HUGE!). For my birthday MrScout took us away for the weekend to a spa and had a spa day for pregnant women package booked for me -- massage on the back (sitting up/over the table as very pregnant!), arms, legs/feet and pedicure. Was lovely. And probably one of the last times I saw my toes until TS made his appearance.

MrScout took next week off so we get him for 11 whole days! YAYY!!!! Going to the inlaws tomorrow but have put my foot down and said we return Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Toddler starts "big boy swimming" (he's moved from AquaBabies to AquaTots) Tuesday afternoon and I refuse to miss it.

First time in ages injection didn't give me a fuzzy head the next morning. Have started my vitamins though, so maybe they help? Or maybe it was a lucky fluke. Either way, I was happy this morning. [bugrin]

oxeye · 21/04/2011 19:31

How was Landy CMOT? We have long Landy history here but can't give full story as too too revealing
Tea I love Milk stories. She is so quizzical and endearing!
We are just home from hols. I have managed 7 days and no work. Tis wonderful
I shall however be one of the few working next week, then Royal Street Party!
Our wedding cake very like Mistle. Made by Mum. Iced professionally. Ribbon and flowers. Eaten after 11.30 wedding with coffee/ tea and chsmpers. And of course cheese. Ideal with fruit cake!!
