Tea Room The 24th - San Francisco Painted Lady!

Welcome to the 24th incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not that you only have to have one! Just so long as you enjoy chat, tea, coffee, cake!!

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or Brew.

Our ongoing voyage take us to one of San Francisco's Painted Ladies!

We've brought the Aga over, it's in the back in the cosy kitchen overlooking the back garden. The chintz sofa is in the front room, under the bow window! All of the pillows and duvets have come along as well!

What's that? The Priest Hole? It's just over there --> behind the bookcase!

Mellors is upstairs, preparing the bedrooms for naps and such. Wink

The aspidistras are thriving as they overlook Nob Hill! The horses have found themselves stabled in the Garden, which is much larger than these places usually are in this city!

So come in and have a seat!

:;remembers fondly the year when a well-timed trip to la belle France meant she had two Mothers' days, with a particularly fine celebratory chocolate cake in France::

I spent today at an advante garde (sp) choral concert with an mner and three giggly four year old girls. After my smarties prooved to be slightly too noisy ahem - emergency gobstoppers for the girls we decided MN probably would have the perfect emergency in a concert 'keep 'em quiet sweets healthy snack. purpleknittingmum · 03/04/2011 20:00

Oh my day has been fab! Not what I had expected, no strops from my daughter, just had to clear up a bit for the carpet fitting

Not long back from going out for a curry, totally stuffed!

teafortwo · 03/04/2011 20:01

That sounds lovely maud... and reminds me that I have to bake cakes for Japan this Thursday and need to choose what to bake...

teafortwo · 03/04/2011 20:03

What kind of curry did you have purple??? - Indulge me and tell me all - I do miss good curries here in France.

purpleknittingmum · 03/04/2011 20:08

We all had a chicken balti, I like to have rice, and a huge bit of garlic naan bread

We also had starters, I think the one one me and my daughter have is skeek kebab. Didn't bother with pudding as last time we went they didn't have any! So we have some rather gorgeous ice cream at home and will have some shortly!

I sympathise, Tea. By the end of our holidays in France, I am sometimes beginning to fantasise about a chicken korma. Come and have one with me and Oxeye next time you're in Lunnon.

I'm so tired I could cry. In fact, I got a bit misty earlier watching TS and how lovely and sweet he was being as he was surrounded by four black cats who were lovely to him and he to them. I wouldn't normally react like that but think it was the exhaustion talking.

I have lost my favorite SiL status (not that I ever really had it) with my SiL (the one with the small herd of children). Must say I don't really care and have spent the evening, since they've gone, cackling in an evil way.

I'm going to bed soon but feel really not well/round so need to let things settle before I think of bed.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 21:44

Oh dear, Scout. Would a soothing hot chocolate Brew help?

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 21:55

Yes, please, Maud. Thank you. Oh, and that was very kind of you to wrap the warm, fuzzy blanket around me as well.

The last few days I've been forcing myself to eat long after I've wanted to stop and think it's catching up with me. And I'm tired. And family politics make me want to drown my sorrows in something stronger than I would normally drink (iRL).

Fab Mother's Day. Wink

I am grateful for MrScout and Toddler. They make me happy and have been very nice to me and have given me lots of cuddles today (they do normally, but I think I had extras today). TS has made MiL's day as well by drawing her pictures and giving her lots of cuddles.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 21:57

So, not all bad then. Do you want to talk about why you have lost your No 1 SiL spot?

::proffers a plate of caramel chocolate digestives, aka manna from heaven::

oxeye · 03/04/2011 22:03

< looks forward to fuzz with Maud and Tea> I love curry x

scout sorry things are tough
I had a lovely day. Oxboy brought a counting game into bed at 8am for my delectation and delight. I had my beautiful card a week ago since that's when he made it at school and he's not good at hanging on
he was all for having easter today after their Easter a go go week at school, trying to pack it all in before the end of term!

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 22:07

I brought down TS's water/sand table. We don't have sand yet (not that I would have hauled sand from Suffolk to Berks, mind) and I forgot to bring the dried/dyed pasta. It was a nice afternoon so MrScout and BiL filled it up (both sides) with water. Her children were soaked (not just her Tot who's 10 months older than TS). My child, on the other hand, slept through their entire visit and missed the fun of the water table (despite me bringing it down for him to play with knowing it was going to be nice this weekend). SiL did actually say "I thought there might be sand, if I had known their was water I would have brought something different over." Yet she had popped home to pick up something and, knowing they were already well on their way to soaking, could have brought them dry clothes. I kept offering TS's clothes for Nephew2 since they're the same size AND MiL offered to toss clothes into the tumble dryer. She prefered to play the martyr and leave the kids in wet clothes.

They never seem to have fun or do anything messy or childlike. Told my MiL I'm going to bring down the table again over Easter, and the easel with all of the paint and markers and glue, as well as every other messy thing I can think of and let all of the kids go at it in the back garden. They are children and they are clothes and everything can be washed/dried. I don't give TS anything that will permanently stain. She agreed with me and said anything I want her to get for TS to stay down here (paints, sand/water table, etc), she's more than happy to.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 22:13

Thanks oxeye. Not bad, really, just same ol' family politics BS. I'm over it, really, and just do my own thing. Sounds like you had a lovely day. Grin

TS tried to shake the fancy cakes "he gave me." He also fed me some of his breakfast (cheerios), my hot chocolate w/cream and some of his dinner (cottage pie w/veg). Aren't I lucky? Wink

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 22:13

Right. It's a plan. Tea Room curry night whenever we can lure Tea to the Smoke.

Scout - Stick to your guns. Your SiL is a loon untypical in the way she deals with situations.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 22:20

Oh, I know they are. Soooo many thing have happened in the last week you wouldn't believe me if I told you half of it.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 22:23

Everybody's invited, Scout. It's just that I imagine that people who live outside London might find it too far to come.

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 22:27

I used to commute from Suffolk to the the Smoke and back daily (while 9 months pregnant as well). I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Speaking of the Smoke, I've been looking at the London Challenge but really must sit with my map/s and figure out where these places are in relation to each other (used to work there but my London geography skills are poor).

Scout19075 · 03/04/2011 22:32

Good night, lovely Tea Room ladies. Sleep well!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 22:35

You too, Scout. Are you home now or still in B?

UniS · 03/04/2011 22:43

Unis Invites herself to a virtual tea room curry meet up in the virtual smoke. Mines a tandoori lamb with extra tomatoes. a helping of tarka dahl and a large nann bread ( plain) .

Just as well we did some of mothers day yesterday, this afternoon Dh was at cricket practise and choir practise for a total of 3 hours . Boy did manage to wait till today to give me a card he made at school ( very neat writing ( for a 5 yr old)) and some fudge he had plotted with DH to buy. Also lots of special mothers day hugs and telling me he loved me.

Glad to hear your girlie upped her game today PKM,will she manage to continue this nice girl behaviour do you think??

Vicar up date- we are still rector less, after 2 adverts, one person applied, was interviewed and rejected by the panel.... oh joy, so ad 3 will go out shortly.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/04/2011 22:47

::Waves to UniS::

You know, I think I might serve twiglet tikka masala more often.

Oh, bless Boy and his endeavours. How long have you been without a vicar?

::considers applying, minor details such as not having attended theological college notwithstanding::

Scout19075 · 04/04/2011 08:07

I fancy a nice toasted bagel -- would anyone else like one? All spreads and fillings are on the side for people to help themselves.

Tee2072 · 04/04/2011 08:33

Oh a toasted bagel sounds perfect, thanks Scout! I hope you got some sleep!

Raining like a rainy thing here in Belfast. Anyone want to go run errands for me? And go to my physio appointment? No? Darn!!

UniS I remember my brother's church's search for a new minister. Took ages Good luck!!

Hope everyone in the UK had the Mother's Day they wanted!
