Tea Room The 24th - San Francisco Painted Lady!

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 14:15

Welcome to the 24th incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not that you only have to have one! Just so long as you enjoy chat, tea, coffee, cake!!

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or Brew.

Our ongoing voyage take us to one of San Francisco's Painted Ladies!

We've brought the Aga over, it's in the back in the cosy kitchen overlooking the back garden. The chintz sofa is in the front room, under the bow window! All of the pillows and duvets have come along as well!

What's that? The Priest Hole? It's just over there --> behind the bookcase!

Mellors is upstairs, preparing the bedrooms for naps and such. Wink

The aspidistras are thriving as they overlook Nob Hill! The horses have found themselves stabled in the Garden, which is much larger than these places usually are in this city!

So come in and have a seat!

::tea hurries off to Powell Street to catch the Cable Car to Ghirardelli Square::

Amber, bloomin fantastic news eh ?

Welcome BsshBossh.

Dress update - pretty woman one looks fabulous, Oasis doesn't fit at all, so going back. Not bad for remote shopping, and I nearly have next weeks outfit list sorted (in California Monday-Monday, formal workwear Wed-Sat).

Saw my consultant today. He pulled a face at my progress, but now has a surgical plan to start. First thing is a stonking metal plate across my wrist to fuse it and all carpal bones together. Will be start of May

Donki · 07/04/2011 19:55

(And no, Amber , I am not pulling a cart. Merely letting off steam after the last day of term - and rejoicing in Amber Lump Shrinkage. Hurrah!)

On the subject of only daughter numbers cf only son numbers - I am sure I remember some research showing that if you have a son, you are less likely to have another child than if you have a daughter. I think it was something to do with changes to the immune system

Donki · 07/04/2011 19:57

CMOT
:( at lack of progress of hand/wrist.
:) at surgeon having a definite plan of action.

How is Donnie doing on the spring grass?

Donki · 07/04/2011 20:00

And welcome to Bssh Bosh.
The hay pile in the corner is where I usually curl up. Please don't eat it! (unlike some Tea Room habituees Angry)

I have some lovely crunchy new season carrots here if you want one. Deliciously sweet and carroty.
And of course there is the perpetual pot of tea.

purpleknittingmum · 07/04/2011 20:06

Are we in Venice yet?!

Great news Amber! :o

Well my daughter's blood results are fine, so feel like we have gone full circle and been referred to the local family centre!

Tee2072 · 07/04/2011 20:11

Scout, it's in the air again. Just took LCT an hour to settle. Thank goodness for ice cream and Wine. Not together, though. Grin

We are apparently watching the Princess and the Frog. Which my husband keeps calling the Princess and the Pea. Hmm Not the same story!!

Bssh I forgot to mention, I am also an American, but I live in Belfast and my husband is Northern Irish!

CMOT, arrgh re situation re surgeon's cunning plan. Hope it bloomin' well works.
Donki, I'm sure I don't know what you mean about other tea room inhabitants eating your hay Hmm

::sneakily hides another pile of it behind the aspidistra for later::

PKM, eek re blood test results not really giving an answer. Good in a way, but puzzling...What do they think the family centre will add?

Ooo, Frozen Irish Cocktail with ice cream, Wine and baileys! Just the thing.
Arm's not bad at all thanks - learning to rest it.

So who's setting up Venice then?

CMOTdibbler · 07/04/2011 20:55

Mmm, baileys and ice cream Grin

Not a huge amount of grass here yet, but ponies are feeling hard done by as we aren't feeding hay now. Huuuuge amounts of hair are coming off him, so all stables clothes are white !

Scout19075 · 07/04/2011 20:57

Ouch, CMOT.

Never heard of families with only sons not having another versus families of only daughters. All of the onlies I know (as peers) are women. Though thinking about it, a lot of the parents of TS's female peers have just had or about to have a second child (boys).

PKM, I'm sorry you don't seem to have any answers.

Can't get my bl00dy needle sorted -- hands just don't seem to want to work. Should go get MrScout to get it sorted for me but I hate the way he does it and it drives me nuts to watch.

UniS · 07/04/2011 21:11

in my completely random and non scientific sample of only children about boys age in this area... 5 girls 3 boys

in his class of 22 ( wider geographical area, smaller age spread.) only girls = 2 only boys = 2.

I have planted out teh garlic - hurrah. and dug more than half the new veg bed now. I can relax a little, so long as I get the other half dug before the beans ( 3 kinds), peas , pumpkins, cucumbers and courgettes and pak choi need to go out. Spuds are already in. Boy and I planted carrot and lettuce seeds today in a big planter. hope they will grow up yummy and very handy. I seem to have volunteered to keep the reception class "garden" watered over the holiday. We are not planning on going away for any length of time and tis only 2 bags of spuds and a planter of carrots and strawberries. I'm going to add a tub of raspberries to it after teh holiday.

What shall I do with myself now, read or jig saw? or maybe a massage....

Mellors! I require you and teh fluffy towels... next to teh hot tub with a view.

Scout19075 · 07/04/2011 22:17

Good night, lovely tea room ladies!

Donki · 07/04/2011 22:46

Goodnight Scout.

There's some brandied hot chocolate as a night cap if you want...

I'll leave it on the side for anyone who fancies some!

mistlethrush · 07/04/2011 23:49

Yay about lump Amber and Wine (needs excuse)

Confused about hand - but at least something being done

mistlechick does Yoga rather than ballet... he's never going to be graceful - but a bit of balance and lots of flexibility and strength can't hurt.

went to the year one play today - for the first time in that sort of thing, mistlechick behaved nicely. He wasn't given any key role - but I really don't blame the teachers for that decision Grin, although he did do some very effective and in-tempo sweeping in one song.

AgentSecrete · 08/04/2011 00:02

Late night for me ladies.

Unis/Thumb - Sboy will be four in October actually but I think the Tshirt should go to MiniT next anyway. Sboy wouldn't get much wear out of it with winter acomin' on by then, whereas of course it will be Tshirt-friendly summer in Oz for miniT's birthday. Also miniT's been here longer! Smile

BsshBosh - hello, nice to meet you. Mr Secret and I have one DS, SecretBoy (3.6), and we live in the SE of England. SBoy is the apple of our eye, and obviously the most gorgeous, wonderful llittle boy who ever was. (Accept there may be some dispute re that fact among the other tea room mums of boys.) Oh, and I'm a SAHM.

Scout - a bit gobsmacked you get the evils for taking photos of TS in the park if there are other kids around. Have heard of this sort of thing but not come across it myself. We snap away merrily on the rare occasions we have any room on the memory card, and everyone seems to think that's perfectly normal round here. Must be a right old PITA to have the perv police on your back like that. But glad you enjoyed having the park to yourselves anyway!

Thanks v much for the brandied hot choc, Donki, just the job.

Looking forward to Venice! Ciao e buona notte, bellissime!

mistlethrush · 08/04/2011 00:08

bsshbosh, sorry, didn't mean to ignore you! - nice to see you!!!

thumbwitch · 08/04/2011 00:32

tearoom 25 linky - look forward to seeing you all there :)

CMOTD - ooch re surgeon's cunning plan - hope it is a good one.

AgentS - thank you for the thoughts on the t-shirt - I guess it depends on how big Sboy is as well - miniT is still on the titchy side and will probably still fit the 4yo t-shirt until he's 5! so it could go to Secretboy first but you are right about the seasonal ishoo.

Have to go and do things prior to going to doc again (hopefully last time for a while now) so will post and run :)

oxeye · 08/04/2011 00:51

My you chatty lovelies! I have just found you before we swim to Venice!

Amber - fantastic news!! great indeed. Hurrah for lovely Biscuit Biscuit

CMOT - not so good but I think you are in the best place to get sorted

Thumb- poor you - boo hiss but at least it's over.....

JM - you are so not crap or useless at anything. Am Hmm about CM too, not exactly designed to make you feel better and JM always sounds lovely. Maybe he is clingy at the moment, but that is lovely - by the time he's 18 you'll be looking back at those days and thinking ahhh - ask Amber!

Love the idea of the T-shirt of Love flying around the world - Kittenito may be in with a shout after Thumb I think

Hugs to all others - I too have a thought out if not completed parcel for Maud - I have bits of it so must visit your for a coffee sometime to deliver Grin

Am trying to combine work and Oxboy off school - it works wonderfully from the point of view of playing with Oxboy but work is a bit crap - I have resorted to the old turn off the phone and hide trick!

OxTowers is a tip. At least I think it is, I can't see beneath all the stuff to tell Grin

OxBloke has planned Next Mission - it's going to be a goodie!

oxeye · 08/04/2011 00:52

oh yes, welcome Bssbosh!

and hugs to all others I haven't mentioned!

mistlethrush · 08/04/2011 13:59

Oxeeye - Sounds like MT nest too - am really bad at getting rid of things in case it might be useful, or dealing with things and then filing them. Really need to have a major purge - but just like tidying my bedroom when I was little - its just such a horrendous prospect I try to ignore it and hope it will go away. Of course it doesn't, but I'm still hoping.

Oxboy off school and working doesn't sound fun - I know that its not feasible with mistlechick. He has been well and truely booked in for sports camps this summer - he loved it last year and I was normally greeted with great displeasure that I'd arrived too early when I got there to pick him up at 6pm (having dropped him at 8.15am). Sounds drastic - but if he's happy and it means that we can have family holidays as a family, that's the way its going to have to go.

School breaks up for us today - but my parents are going to have him for a week (although he's booked in on sports course (shorter days) for 3 of the five week days to give them a bit of a breather!).

I'm looking forward to Venice - will go and see who's turned up!

[packs sunglasses and wellies and heads off to try to find an appropriate hat]

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 10/04/2011 17:24

Any ideas, anyone? For at least the last week, if not longer - fever/cough bug seemed to follow on seemlessly from chicken pox - Wriggle has been quite unlike normal. Obviously coughing, sore throat, slight temperature on occasion, but also falling asleep at 4 or 5 pm, not 9 pm as usual, baby talk and carrying soft toys around everywhere ('Bunny want apple juice'), or even not talking at all, just pointing and whingeing, extra clingy, wants to be carried 24/7, very timid, just wants to be at home all the time. Could she need a tonic? What is a tonic?

Today we went riding with friends. Wriggle grizzled the whole time the pony was moving Blush, friend's little girl fell off and screamed and Wriggle screamed until I threatened to smack her if she didn't stop screaming. Blush Blush This is making us miserable and is not normal for her, (and really really honestly not normal for me - I was just so embarrassed and frustrated because this was supposed to be a treat).

Actually, must try reading back over all the other tea rooms; I seem to remember Thumb recommending lavender oil, mandarin and ?? for excessive timidity. In the bath? On a tissue in her clothes?
