Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Tend to catch the eye eh CMOT. Not me this time.

BoffinMum · 25/02/2011 21:25

I have an ill baby, have picked the bug up myself and have just been puked on or the umpteenth time this week. He has been ill since Saturday and off his food. He is looking all little and thin. He's reasonably chirpy and managed a handful of (self selected) Frosties this evening, which he subsequently threw up, but I am starting to get worried. I am not often worried about their health. Sad

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 25/02/2011 21:30

How little is ill baby, BoffinMum?

BoffinMum · 25/02/2011 21:32

22 months.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 25/02/2011 21:43

Dr tomorrow, surely? Little enough to be worrying. Poor you. Poor BabyBoffin.

BoffinMum · 25/02/2011 22:00

Went yesterday as he was also grabbing his willy and saying 'ow' a lot, and they said to try to get a sample from him. We couldn't really do this and today he had stopped doing it anyway, probably because he was having a bit more fluid. Thing is, I know he's not mortally ill so I am hard pressed to know what they could do for him, given that he is not so dehydrated he needs to be on a drip.

amberlight · 26/02/2011 08:13

How are the poorly small ones doing today? Large cups of something for all exhausted mums...

In the priest hole we have a few of us and more than one exhausted Bishop by the look of it.

UniS, I'd think they are angling for a restructure of the whole set of local parish groups. If they can't get a vicar, they could argue that the whole lot needs re-dividing and re-allocating?

Spent a very nice morning yesterday at the hospital, meeting more of the team of lovely ladies who will be looking after me in the weeks and months to come. Having friendly people makes a huge difference.

Today, meeting relatives, then out for a 50th Birthday meal (not mine) with old friends in Henley, which should be great fun.

BoffinMum · 26/02/2011 16:35

Thanks for concern about DS3. He is quite a bit better today and despite one full on diarrhoea attack has gone to the zoo and enjoyed himself. He has had plenty of fluids and a poppadom. I think he is on the mend.

Tee2072 · 26/02/2011 16:46

LCT is also better today. Spent some time here, although he's a bit young for it, MrTee and I really enjoyed ourselves.

Catitainahatita · 26/02/2011 17:08

Hi all. Sorry to hear about all the ill babies. Kittenito is also ill. He haa a throat infection since the weekend. But on Thursday he also managed to pick up s d & v bug. Dr insisted he was puking because of the pleghm but I wasn't so sure, since K wad not pucking snot but proper puke. Today after two days of d&v the Dr. Finally agreed with Me & prescribed for this. K is now asleep. Hopefully there will be no puking today.

UnAgentSecrete · 26/02/2011 21:10

Hello all, and hola Catita, that sounds really horrible for Kittenito, what a double whammy, and rotten Dr for ignoring you at first. Hope your day is going well.

Glad to hear the other babes are on the mend. I am also on the mend, having been horribly ill myself for the whole of last week, with a bad chest infection. Meant that half term was a real washout. Thankfully the horse strength type antibiotics I'm now on seem to be doing the trick. Poor SBoy, didn't have much of a mummy last week, and sod's law meant that everyone who could have stepped in to help out a bit was away/sick/looking after sick children themselves, while MrS was snowed under at work.

However, am now celebrating being more or less back to normal - well, as normal as I ever get. So exciting to set foot outdoors again and hear birds singing!

Amber, hope you enjoyed your day and had lots of fun. Haven't had a chance to read back but hope everyone is well.

Scout19075 · 26/02/2011 21:53

Definitely on the mend here. Decent night sleep did BabyScout a world of good. Still a bit snotty but not nearly as cough-y.

Poor Kittenito.

Glad to hear yesterday was positive, amber. Hope today was fun!

I'm ready for not just a glass but a full bottle -- Guiders and In-Laws! ACK! Who else would be up for some so I'm not drinking alone?

Scout19075 · 26/02/2011 22:42

Wine Wine

Catitainahatita · 27/02/2011 00:29

Good to hear BabyScout is on the mend. K is lying on the sofa feeling sorry for himself. Only diarrhoea today but his tummy is very sore. Fingers crossed Gatita doesn't get this too.
AgenteS: that sounds rough. Chest infections are the pits; I'm very prone to them myself. They leave you a weak mess. I am glad to hear you are feeling better.

Scout19075 · 27/02/2011 08:53

ohhhh, my aching head....

Tee2072 · 27/02/2011 09:47

MORNING!! SCOUT HOW'S THE HEAD? WOULD YOU LIKE A COFFEE? evil Grin

A is on the mend but still woke up at 2am and didn't settle for an hour. MrTee got up with him, but I didn't get back to sleep myself until after they both did.

::passes 'round coffee, tea and full English::

amberlight · 27/02/2011 13:34

Thanks! Just the thing!

Tee2072 · 27/02/2011 17:14

Been a very quite couple of days. Where is everyone? Down the priest hole?

MaryBS · 27/02/2011 17:19

I know I am (down the priest's hole, surreptitiously growing aspidistras to take my mind off things and to annoy people who don't like them)

Jacksmania · 27/02/2011 17:44

Hi all... is there any coffee going?

In RL I am about to indulge myself ridiculously by buying a fully automatic cappucino maker. Probably shouldn't, but I'm going to.

Feel very down in the dumps for some reason. Hormones? Who knows. Just very dragged down. Had a playdate with a friend and almost started boo-hooing at her kitchen table when she asked how I was [self-pitying emoticon]
Must give head a shake.

It is very like the Tea Room here. We had a (by our standards) massive snowfall overnight. Looks very pretty. Will probably be utter shit to drive in.

Forget coffee, is there any Wine?

I'd join Mary down the Priest Hole, but as she's trying to annoy me, I am feeling perverse and refuse to give her the pleasure :o

the weekends during daytime are often very quiet on here for some reason. Probably because of small children-herding etc.
Mary, would you like the duvet and a nice back massage from Mellors?

MaryBS · 27/02/2011 17:53
Blush
MaryBS · 27/02/2011 17:54
amberlight · 27/02/2011 17:59

gin?

UniS · 27/02/2011 19:03

rolls mary a ball to curl up in. Ist quite large so you should fit Ok.

Amber- um, maybe to the vicar thing. BUT we have only just been allocated to this set of parishes ( we are still in interregnum after 2 vicar less years..) Current plan is to combine 2 large parish groups into a new team ministry group with 2 ordained full timers along with the current selection of retired clergy who are currently holding it all together just. Ho Hum, will wait and see.

Played hockey yesterday, fun. We only won one game BUT our other games were fairly close matches, sometimes rather closer than the score line suggested. We had plenty of attack but didn't land many IN the goal.
