Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Well I do hope they're careful with the Ming vases! Grin

San Francisco? Never been there! Always wanted to go. I'd vote for that, yes.

MaryBS · 08/03/2011 09:20

I went there once, on business (oo, look at her!). We got time off and went to a roller coaster park, where I experienced my first stand up rollercoaster! That was an experience!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 09:38

Yes please to the Painted Lady. I could help Mellors with the gardening.

::Noble and selfless::

What's on Powell Srreet?

teafortwo · 08/03/2011 11:37

AandO - I am really so very sorry to hear about your sad news. xxx

Luckily you have lots of friends here to help you though if you need a type chat... although they are wearing a whole bunch of new names I am sure you will quickly work out who is who (if you can't pm me and I will help you out) and there are some new tearoomers too who may as well have been here from day one because they fit in so well with the whole oogling Mellorsthing tearoom ethos.

Smile - I for one will like you being back in Ireland very much because... you will have access to the interweb.... and thus the tearoom - yiiiiippppeeee (for us although bit Sad for you because I sense you have really enjoyed your time in India x)!!!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 08/03/2011 12:50

Isn't San Francisco where they set Kojak? Or was is A Man Called Ironside? Used to watch both with my father as a child because he was bald and lacking a leg (although not in a wheelchair) so we watched both and made jokes about them.

Is that where you come from Tee? Or would that be too revealing?

And sorry, I wasn't one of the ones offering to do your shopping for you; I was the selfish one waving my list at you because it wouldn't take you more than a couple of extra minutes to do my shopping at the same time, would it? Blush

Actually, I do have a real problem with shopping, because my car has an interesting fault which means that you can't start the engine unless it is completely cold, so I either have to leave the engine running (not very practical in a supermarket car part or the local feed mill, for that matter) or stay at least 45 mins to an hour. Sounds trivial, but has taken some organisation!

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 12:57

I moved here to Belfast from the San Francisco Bay area, but I was never rich lucky enough to live in the City itself.

I miss it a lot.

oxeye · 08/03/2011 13:31

AandO I am so sorry about your mc and hard to be coming back to Ireland feeling flat and gloomy I hope coming home will be ok

Thanks Catita, feeling much cheerier today - I tend to post when it is late and I am tired which is never good

Amber chuckling re Flora being cheap - a cheap service for a Landy? Give over!

Racing, we had a vehicle like that once - had a lot of picnic lunches in car parks! Grin

amberlight · 08/03/2011 13:35

Hopping mad now - she failed her MOT, only two weeks after they made me pay a ruddy fortune to get her fully serviced to pass the MOT. Same garage. Am I happy? No I am not. Do they know this? Oh yes.

oxeye · 08/03/2011 13:42
Grin ducks as Amber chucks copies of Hopeless Mechanic Weekly around

I'd like to go to San Fransisco please. To a Painted Lady. We can come over all Armistead Maupin.

I vote we leave behind Amber's garage....

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 13:46

Amber - Ir is International Women's Day and those mechanics need to see an example of an empowered woman asserting her rights as a consumer and citizen. Oh yes, they do. You go girl.

While we're in San Francisco, can we also do a little hommage to Tales of the City? And can we go to New York at some point? Pleeeeease?

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 13:47

Ha at synchronicitous references to Armistead Maupin!

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 14:01

YAYAY San Francisco!

Can someone who has been here longer start it? I'd hate to forget something!!

And LOL to the xpost about Tales of the City!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 14:03

You can do it, Tee! Just use an old one as a rough outline, chuck out anything that's no longer appropriate and add your own touches!

Anna Madrigal xx

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 14:04

All right I'll try!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 14:07

Great. It'll be fab, I know it will. After all, you are a genuine San Franciscan.

Jacksmania · 08/03/2011 14:07

AandO, I'm very sorry about your mc. (((((HUGS)))))

Oxeye - that was funny!!! :o

Cheers to everyone else. I have been up since 04:30 am with JB who couldn't sleep anymore. That's going to be painful later as it's a work day for me [gah].

Come to San Francisco!

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 08/03/2011 16:04

::Starts to pack the crates::

::Unloads the book shelf::

Look! Some first editions of the Tales of the City series. Perhaps we could ask Armistead Maupin to autograph them?

thumbwitch · 10/03/2011 06:57

A&O - really sorry to hear about your MC and I understand what you mean - I had one at 8w and it was almost like I'd just missed a period in between, so it was a funny sort of "did I ever really feel pg, perhaps not" sort of feeling that I had. Still sad but not perhaps as sad as I would have been further along. Hope things aren't too bad when you get home - and if they are, go somewhere else! :)

amberlight · 10/03/2011 07:24

(hi Thumb - new tea room on link above - hugs re memory of mc...)

thumbwitch · 10/03/2011 07:26

Thank you amber :)
