Tea Room the 23rd - The Canadian Rockies

Welcome to the 23rd incarnation of the One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading - although its inmates inhabitants mostly have just one child, we also have mums of many (but no dads yet... hmmm...). Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply - no bunfighting. If you like that sort of thing, go elsewhere.
Other rules: bring Wine. Or [tea]. :o

We find ourselves in a lovely spacious log cabin in the Canadian Rockies. Enormous west-facing windows show a gorgeous view of the sunset over the mountains, and there are log and/or gas fireplaces in every room, even the priest hole (which is a Hiding Spot of Requirement for Those In Need) and the bathrooms. In the open-concept living room, we find the Aga gently simmering against the wall, the bar fully stocked, and the cappuccino bar prepared to dispense any hot beverage of your choice.

Fluffy duvets and colourful pillows abound on the deep, squashy couches and armchairs. Outside, we see a vista of deep snow, dotted here and there with deer and bunny tracks. The walking trails and access roads have been ploughed clear of snow by our able (and hunky) handyman, Mellors, who is also available for massages and facial treatments in the Log Cabin Spa.
There is a hot tub outside on the west-facing deck, with a mini-bar conveniently nearby.

There are no aspidistras in this log cabin, as the cold of the Rockies causes them to shrivel and die. However, the Naked Mohawk Babies have come along and are swarming along the rafters, and in the adjacent stable, the Tea Room horses, Earl and Lady Grey are available for snowy rides. The bison are frolicking in their snowy paddock, and I have no idea if the bishops followed the trail of breadcrumbs or not.

(For newcomers, the last paragraphs obv. makes no sense - just go with, all will be explained.)

Thanks for your nice friendly salute the other day Tea! Right back atcha! and good news about the camera. We have one but I'm always too sleep deprived to upload things so there's never any room on the memory card. Ditto camera phone, ditto video recorder or whatever they're called now.

I haven't had a single unbroken night's sleep in nearly three and a half years now and it's getting critical. SecretBoy awoke at 4.30 today. And couldn't get back to sleep for love nor money. I feel like aliens have abducted me and sucked my brains out before dumping me back here.

I am a real misery today, the sleep thing is actually making me feel a bit tearful.

Catita, that was such a bummer, what happened to you with the file. Gutted doesn't cover it! On the things that shouldn't happen front, MrSecret was away this weekend (work) and - bearing in mind he is equally sleep deprived and works 14 - 16 hour days when he's away - the potential of an uninterrupted night's sleep in the hotel is an attractive prospect. So it was a shame that the hotel fire alarm went off at 5am and continued (despite the complete abssence of any fire, which I suppose was the one blessing) for 30 mins. Was very gutted for him too.

Anyone else I can be gutted for, now I'm on my misery roll?

Amber, sorry to hear about your wobbliness; I sense you might just prefer some more

Get the feeling you're more of a mug half full kind of person!

I, OTOH, am most definitely Eeyore today. [long face emoticon]

teafortwo · 07/03/2011 11:26

I have got it sorted... I have invited two charming families over - one set of neighbours and and one set of park friends...

Beer doesn't like sweet cake so I will make him French savoury cakes for his birthday cake that will also make a super appero snack. - birthday done!

Wine - for women (a good motto me thinks!)!!!

Pancakes for dinner and all the children will come dressed up for Mardi Gras!!!!!!!

Grin

Yipeeeeeee!!!!

Tee2072 · 07/03/2011 12:25

Hi all

Sorry not been around much. Lack of sleep was kicking my ass but LCT has slept through the last two nights! Humidifier for the win again!

Now if I could just sleep through. I hate my brain.

Big cups of Brew or bottles of Wine to all who are wobbly, tired, out sorts or just thirsty!

I'm in the middle of my bookkeeping so I really must get back to it. My first self-employed financial year ends on 31st March! Gotta get my books together...and then ignore them until next January. Wink Grin

MaryBS · 07/03/2011 12:31

Caramelised onion with cheese sounds lovely.

Oxeye, am afraid I don't know which ligament. They didn't tell me. Am a failure as a geek, aren't I? Wink

Feeling stressed. Not only was a job taken off me without my knowledge, when I query how its going, it gets dumped back on me, badly and less than half done, and little time to sort it. Honestly, people! Grr.

AandO · 07/03/2011 18:08

Hi guys!

I'm still in India, but will be back in two weeks. Not looking forward to it Sad. It's all doom and gloom in Ireland I'm sure at the mo.

There are some new names, new people or name changes? Or both?

I'm a bit confused at the moment. Just had a mc. Only me and dh even knew I was pregnant so it all feels a bit unreal, like it never happened at all. I was only a few weeks. Not sure how I feel though. Not sure at all!

I hope all of you are well. xxx

amberlight · 07/03/2011 18:26

AandO, oh my goodness re the mc - have a sit down on the distressed chintz sofa - can I get you a duvet/hug/large glass of Wine or cup of Brew??

MaryBS · 07/03/2011 18:29

:( AandO, gentle hugs to you and yours...

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/03/2011 19:35

And a hug from me too.

UniS · 07/03/2011 19:59

hugs to all who want them. Be nice to yourself AO. AMber- are you sitting comfortably and not over doing it??
Birthday plans sound fab tea.

My shoulder hurts so not much typing from me. PC ate my post last night.

waves to all.

amberlight · 07/03/2011 20:31

Yes, been asleep much of the afternoon. Bored bored bored. I hate being bored.

Waves back.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/03/2011 20:44

What shall we do to enliven your evening, Amber?

UniS · 07/03/2011 20:46

mellors is turning cartwheels for you Amber, just look out teh window.

Catitainahatita · 07/03/2011 20:49

No time, but justed wanted to say
Hugs and sympathy for AandO and Mr. AandO. A m/c is peculiar kind a grief. Hard to put into words and harder even to deal with. I hope you find a way of dealing with things soon.

More of the same for Amber. Although in her case it is also accompanied by the stern reminder that in case of feeling crap she should not try and make things better by doing physical stuff. Your body needs the rest, even if your mind needs stimulation.

And Oxeye: I nominate you for "best TR comment of 2011". I bow to your superior wit. Also I hope you are feeling more positive today. IMHO, mums who have time for lots of lovely extracurricular activities don't do them anyway. They then feel guilty about for other reasons. If English was a logical language I think motherhood would be an anagram of "feeling guilty".

Must dash, grabs and and promises to make a fetching picture with them sometime soon.

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 07/03/2011 20:54

Amber, sorry you are bored.Books, TV, DVD's? Lots more mn-ing? Went to Salisbury for an RE course on Friday. Beautiful! We were in Sarum college, right opposite the cathedral, there was roast chicken for lunch, the sun shone and the presenters were inspirational. Hope you get there really soon!

Agent; I have been without an unbroken night since the night before Wriggle was born (my last night's sleep was therefore 13th July 2006. I did not appreciate it enough!)

AndO, a sympathetic (if acceptable) ((hug)).

Everyone else .... hello!

Tee2072 · 07/03/2011 20:57

A hug from me as well AandO, even though we've never met. The hardest thing in the world is losing a baby.

2nd night in a row LCT has had a major tantrum at bedtime. Kicking, screaming, inconsolable. And then wouldn't sleep. He finally went down about 830, an hour late.

Amber, read lots of books, watch lots of TV. Or maybe start a million piece jigsaw puzzle? Grin

I am heading to bed very soon. If I can stop sneezing and coughing.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/03/2011 21:23

Look, Amber, Mellors and Sebastian are putting on .

amberlight · 08/03/2011 08:08

::Amber rushes about looking for the fire extinguisher, which she's sure she put down somewhere::

Thanks! I'm much less bored now Grin

::lines up relaxing beds for those desperate for sleep, complete with the ideal beverage and breakfast of choice::

MaryBS · 08/03/2011 08:12

Sorry Amber, DD borrowed the fire extinguisher for her science project at school Blush. She thought it would make a good rocket launcher! We could test it if you like, launch it at the fire? Although that might upset DD if it gets damaged...

amberlight · 08/03/2011 08:32

Using it as a rocket launcher sounds like a very UnBoring thing. Let's do it! Grin

MaryBS · 08/03/2011 08:45
:o
Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 08:47

Good morning.

Fun with fire extinguisher! Grin

I hope everyone had a lovely night sleep and is ready for a fun filled day. My fun filled day consists of...grocery shopping. Now, now, don't all call out at once, I know you want to do it for me, but I insist on doing it myself!

::Full English on Sideboard::

amberlight · 08/03/2011 08:51

I want a go at the fire-extinguisher-powered-kart!! Me me me!!!

I've got to get Flora the (t)rusty Land Rover over for her MOT by 10am. This better not be expensive.

::wonders why there are lots of English people balancing on the sideboard:: Grin

Notes that we're Very Short of Space for new posts. Have people any ideas on where we go next and who wants to set up the forthcoming tea room?

Tee2072 · 08/03/2011 08:55

Amber Grin they like it up there. Grin

I know I am new and all, so perhaps presumptuous, but could we maybe have the next tea room in San Francisco? Perhaps a Painted Lady? It could have a back garden of requirement for Donki's hay and we could go shopping on Powell Street!!
