The One-Child Tea Room, version 21... the Hawaiian Islands. Cocktails, anyone?

Welcome everyone to the 21st (!!!) One-Child Tea Room. Not to be misleading, we do have inhabitants who have or are planning more than one! Everyone is welcome.

The usual rules apply: no fisticuffs, or you will be escorted out by Mellors the Hunky Gardener. Depending on your preference, he looks variously like Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Boreanaz, Gerard Depardieu... I have a feeling we all see something different but whatever we see makes us drool! And considering that this Tea Room is in the Hawaiian Islands, whoever we see is definitely shirtless! :o

Cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, yummy food that is entirely without fattening effects, and lewd rolls abound in the Tea Room. There is also a full cappucino bar.

This is essentially A Tea Room of Requirement, and we're currently on the lovely sandy beaches of Maui, with beach huts, lounge chairs, cabanas, mango and papaya trees, and of course, lots of coffee directly from Kona.

Pop on in and stay a while. We may all seem a bit mad eccentric but we're very friendly!

M Bragg was my first crush.

Bleerdy 'ell Cat - Violence + being in academia = generally trouble!!! Getting out seems like a good plan for you and your family.

teafortwo · 22/01/2011 17:39

technni - I accidently called "The Grove" shopping centre nearby where I grew up "The Groove" for ages thanks to your Madonna song.

And only when I started singing REALLY loudily to this song one day did my sister correct me - "She is singing 'I miss you like crazy', tea, not 'I wish you like gravy'!"

thumbdabwitch · 22/01/2011 18:07

Scout - :( for the loss of your friend.

Catita - fingers crossed that you can escape your current location and move to MC in time for Kittenito to start school there.

Could I please be a complete bore and ask you all to name your songs in your links? Then i can join in the appreciation without having to click on them - because I am generally on here late at night/early morning (currently 5am -argh!) I find it rather hard to "do" music links without waking anyone, sometimes the volume is a bit erratic! I know it's very tedious of me but I would be very grateful, thank you...

Catitainahatita · 22/01/2011 18:12

Bugger it appears that my message of 10 minutes ago did not appear.

I said that I was not going to mention T42 comments to Mr. H as he is already too big for his boots as a result of his TV appearence last year. I also said that I was emabarking on my own media career as a result (although the need to impress future employers is also a factor). I've put the link in the other place.

Thumb Deacon Blue "Wages Day", Del Amitri "Spit in the Rain" and "Driving with the Brakes on". The Proclaimers was "I would be (500 miles)".

Catitainahatita · 22/01/2011 18:15

Oh yes and I agreed with having a crush on MB. Me too since my youth and only because of his voice (the male equivalent to Jenni Murray I think)and general admiration of his novels. I didn't see him in reallife (ie on the TV) until I was at university.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 18:48

Catita - Have you read many of MB's novels? Whisper it not, but I found some of them a bit tedious. But I still heart him. On a purely intellectual level.

Have I told you before about quite literally bumping into him? I was scurrying through Covent Garden in the rain with my head down, walked into a man clad in a Burberry mac, looked up and it was Saint Melvyn.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 18:51

A gift for Catita (and me).

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 18:53

Gosh, he's 71, you know.

Catitainahatita · 22/01/2011 19:00

I read the series of semiautobiographical novels he wrote about his life. They appealed to me greatly at the time as I suppose I thought myself also a great intellectual lost in youth, provincial obscurity and parental incomprehension. I don't know about the others though, I haven't read any of his recent stuff (there's not a great demand for it here!).

  1. Gosh. I still think of him as a fiftysomething.
Catitainahatita · 22/01/2011 19:01

Oh and thanks for the link

And, obviously, Envy Envy Envy on the almost bumping into him

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 19:05

Well it was hardly glamorous. Just left me feeling like a complete twerp.

UniS · 22/01/2011 19:39

HI all. had a busy day here. Think I'll come into the tea room and put my feet up. I'll be on the sofa with a book if any one wants me.

Gingerbread and hot choc for any one?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 20:08

Yes, please UniS. We've just made vanilla fudgey muffins. If they taste OK, I'll bring some to share.

UniS · 22/01/2011 20:11

ohh, they sound nice. I intend to make tiffin this weekend, but I intend to do a lot of things and something is bound to get pushed to bottom of pile.

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 20:18

They look nice too but are still too hot to eat. The recipe comes from my muffin porn book.

::whispers::

I think it's even cheaper if you buy it from the Book People.

CMOTdibbler · 22/01/2011 20:43

Ooh, might get that Techno. I love the Book People for cookery books.

Sleepover went fabulously - ds's friend is a total sweetheart when with us (they do the Kevin and Perry thing where visiting child is angelic and 'home' child does all the bad behaviour), and it was heart stoppingly sweet to look in on them and see them asleep in each others arms. Friend announced to her mum that she was moving in with us Hmm

Bolly and twiglet a la mode ?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 22/01/2011 21:01

Mais oui, Cmot. S'il te plait.

::Hands you a medal for sleepover bravery::

Tee2072 · 23/01/2011 07:38

Howdy.

I'm totally brain dead this morning due to lack of sleep. Nothing like chronic pain to keep you awake. LCT slept great, though!

::hands round coffee/tea and full English::

amberlight · 23/01/2011 09:05

Tee, grr re pain levels.

::grabs large tea, after a morning herding ds and his best mate to the transport for their national rugby league match::

Church, then lunch out with hubby, then trip into Windsor. Should be good.

UniS · 23/01/2011 20:53

nearly finished decorating the dining room, put Piano in place tonight, just lampshade, lightswitch and curtains to go now. BUT mainly PAINTING finished. Hurrah.

so, mines a celebratory pint of wino, what about you, what are you celebrating tonight?

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 23/01/2011 21:14

Well done, UniS. I'm celebrating the death of our telly (and, it seems our central heating, bbrrr) by going to bed. But I'll take a pint of vino collapso with me.

Good night all!

::blows kisses::

oxeye · 23/01/2011 21:40

Blah. Can't believe I missed dance night but you gals are so of my era. My madonna/ prince/ wham quotient has rather reduced since meeting rather more musically sophisticated oxbloke
my first album was AdM and the ants (lp) first tape was Police
2 tapes for £4 each. A ruddy fortune. Regatta de blanc and zenyatta mondatta. You can see it burnt a memory bluing all that money in one go Grin

sorry for loss scout

hugs to all

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 23/01/2011 21:45

::Pauses on the way to bed to hug Oxeye to her ample bosom and ::

(Open it with the sound off if you're nervous)

::Sighs over the young Sting:

::Bops up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire::

LaVieEnTechnicolor · 23/01/2011 21:47

My first album was the Bay City Rollers. My second album was Desire by Bob Dylan. You could say my musical tastes developed quite rapidly.

A domani.
