Tea Room the Nineteenth

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Last time I went to London with the stroller I was meeting a friend at Oxford Street in the underground so she helped me with the stroller.

And I remembered after I got there I was at Victoria last November, when BabyScout was only about a month old. He was in the kangeroo pouch (BabyBjorn) so I didn't pay attention to steps, etc. We went to the passport office there on the day we took him to the American Embassy -- two passports in one day, he was a busy boy!

Pics of his adventure up on the other site. He looked like a proper London commuter this morning, sitting in his seat like a big boy, reading his book. And again on the way home, reading the free paper.

roslily · 05/11/2010 20:19

Hi guys. Been trying to catch up with what has been going on.

Glad you survived London Scout! Today is my half day at work (I do 0.5) and I decided to do something I wanted. So after a coffee with DH, we went back to work and I got into bed pulled duvet up and got my book out and read for 2 and half hours. The house is a tip, and I should really have been working, but it was excellent!

As to work I am feeling a bit disillusioned with teaching. To do a good job I have to spend all my spare time planning, marking etc. And I just don't want to anymore. I am considering my own business, but that will take time to think how to do it!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/11/2010 21:05

Tea, we are having One Of Those Evenings, too. Am very jealous at you being able to put Milk to bed at 19.12 - it is now 21.00 and Wriggle is still jumping from bed to cupboard because she is Not At All Tired. And there is a new David Attenborough program on that I would love to watch, rather than sitting up in the bedroom trying to bore her to sleep. Might have to take a G&T up with me. And see if she will go into the cupboard and talk about zebras.

Roslily, well done for grabbing book moment. Make the most of them - they don't last Smile

Donki · 05/11/2010 21:13

A pony CMOT. Wow! I am jealous...
I have known some really nice section As - and some little monkeys. Elwyn Hartley Edwards once described Welsh ponies (all sections) as having a bit of the devil about them! They were his favourite breed IIRC.

I miss riding. I haven't sat on a horse since before the Young Donkey was born.

Many thanks for all the sympathy with overstretched teachers - it makes a nice change from being told about all the holidays we get! (usually followed by a complaint about why can't we have the training days during the holidays)

Tea - I have often thought that people must think I'm slightly barmy - some 6th formers once described me as 'eccentric' to a deputy head!

Amber - I have great fun going through the ads in the horse and hound deconstructing in similar fashion.

'never been known to stop' (out jumping) = has no brakes
'good to clip and shoe' = but won't go near the horse box
'novice ride' = won't move
'has seen hounds' = once, when they came doen the road past the stables.
etc

It sounds like you mostly had a good time in London Scout.

Donki · 05/11/2010 21:31

And my favourite
'not novice ride' = complete lunatic

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 21:50

I have decided to follow scout's lead and vent elsewhere iyswim - please take a peak.

un - we are an hour ahead and Milk is going to school full time now. She fell asleep on my lap at about 22:00. Not bad for her. Hmm

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 05/11/2010 22:35

Wow! So much has been going on today that I can't comment on it all, except to say to Scout and BabyScout, to JBsmama, to Tea.

And I should point out that it was Veuve Clicquot who was mentioned by the saintly Melvyn, not me. Nobody is going to devote 45 minutes of airtime to discussing my contribution to Western civilisation!

Speaking of La Veuve, would anyone like to partake of her tasty refreshing drink?

amberlight · 06/11/2010 07:16

please please help...see other place Sad. Remind me how I stop the panic.

I've posted something there.

Mellors will be here soon.

MellorsYourGardener · 06/11/2010 10:40

Amber. I believe you need me. Just let me fetch the massage table, fluffy white towels and de-stressing aromatherapy oils and we will repair to the priest's hole.

Donki · 06/11/2010 17:30

Your need is greater than mine Amber.
Here is some carrot cake too, with a lovely not-too-sweet frosting.

teafortwo · 06/11/2010 17:39

amber - I have been researching you my dearest. I am completely in awe of your work and professional website!!!

Congratulations on your success....

and Envy at your swishy looking hair!!!!

[not a stalker but an interested friend emotion]

amberlight · 06/11/2010 18:26

tea, thanks, though most friends describe it as "Amber if you do one more bloody thing or take on one more sodding project we will actually disown you, you silly cow", which is honest and indeed useful, because I take on everything I'm asked to do which is Not Good. Hair today more scarecrow-pulled-through-hedge-backwards I think. Calmer on emergency tablets and after many hours of quiet reasoning from supportive people.

Hugs to all who want them. waves to all others.
back on monday I guess. byeeee.

thumbwheel · 06/11/2010 22:30

UniS - how very inconsiderate of your DH!

amber - have replied on other board, glad you are feeling a bit calmer and that you have lots of supportive RL people who can calm you as well.

tea - lots of filing - eep.

Small - lovely Veuve, thank you.

JBM - sorry to hear you're not feeling the best still. HAve you had words with that nutter in your practice yet? Or are you biting your tongue about it since your DH has already given her what for.

Sympathies to all teaching types on here - I actually don't know how you do it. I was doing lecturing at degree level before I left England, but I couldn't do school teaching. At least all my students wanted to be there!

oxeye · 06/11/2010 23:55

hello my dears
well, Amber, I can't get on the other place so I am not sure what is up but sending much love and warm vibes and if I can help let me know - I think you still have my email?

Scout, likewise, can't read your rant, but glad that Victoria and London were ok. I rather liked the "faceless grab" of assistance - we're here to help, not pry

Tea I love Zebra Milk she is part Wriggle isn't she? Unquiet I am cross I missed David A

My list is
Over the Fence Neighbour - Alan Rickman (on one side for sardonic chats)

and Julian Clary on the other - for sheer entertainment

New Best Friend - David Attenborough - if he says it is so it must be true

Hottie Help - George Clooney

Small I was listening to Melvyn as I read your post and spent the next hour waiting for you to be mentioned, didn't realise it was simply the booze

JM so sorry about work, unbelievable, hope you are ok

love and hugs to all CMOT envy your pony, UniS hope drive ok and Mary have you got further post DC insults?

We're hanging on in there- laughed at Teas overload of papers, it's what I am doing right now! Hmm

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 00:02

Ah, if only I had something distinguished enough to be mentioned by Melvyn. I bumped into him once, you know. Literally. Was walking with my head down because it was raining and collided with a tall man in a Burberry mac. My former teenage crush. Blush

And Julian Clary was very charming on this morning's Saturday Thingy repeat.

Anyone want a quick snifter before bedtime?

oxeye · 07/11/2010 00:25

Yes please to a snifter. I am rather enjoying Julian as narrator for Little Princess at the mo - I keep waiting for him to say "oh yes princess, I do like a warm hand on my entrance" Grin Grin

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 00:30

Julian as narrator for the Little Princess? I suppose middle age comes to us all eventually. Wink

Well, goodnight my lovelies.

oxeye · 07/11/2010 00:32

Yes, he does it rather well.... I thought fiscal desperation rather than middle age...

thumbwheel · 07/11/2010 01:51

I think he's rather good at The Little Princess.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 07/11/2010 11:02

I'm sure he is. But if anyone had said, in the era of Fanny the Wonder Dog, that he would one day be narrating children's TV, would we have believed them?

thumbwheel · 07/11/2010 11:34

Ah Fanny the Wonder Dog - I loved the Julian Clary show, whatever it was called. I have fond memories of him trying to sing "I was born under a wandering star" and having to give up because it was too low, v. funny. His costumes used to crack me up too. I was a big fan of some of the "alternative" viewing, first on Ch4 and then Ch5. I learnt a lot!! (not all of it repeatable without blushing).
He's very good at panto as well...
