Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

I thought SmallBunch was Posie (sp?) oops! Blush

amberlight · 05/11/2010 08:42

Yup, I'll have a full cooked breakfast please. Urk re toothache and sermon. Not a good combination. Hope the situation with the little darling who called yours a Name is sorted out very effectively by them Hmm

Donki - eek re the inspections. So glad your lesson went well. When do you get the Final Verdict?

Scout - haven't looked elsewhere yet but sounds like you've had a thoroughly yuk time...will get my brain in gear there

JB - words fail Shock. Blimey, I'm so glad you and the office contents are OK...I would have been hysterical as well (er, ok, I'm hysterical a lot, but you know what I mean Blush)

Tea - how was the rest of the day/evening/are you feeling any less up and down?

Smallbunch, you got mentioned by Melvyn Bragg?!? Wow!

CMOT - LA and your current situation sounds absolutely exhausting. Any chance to enjoy yourself out there or was it 100% work? Always wanted to go there...

UnSerpent, hope baked potato lunch endurance day is better than planned.

Oxeye, how are you coping in the midst of all that's going on?

Morning everyone else - how are you all?

MMMmm - full cooked brekkie is lovely.

I was in San Diego, which is gorgeous - the weather is perfect, you can walk safely around the downtown, and it really has a downtown which is unusual. We don't ever have a lot of time off - this year we ended up with the first day there off, but it was a constant check in as to whether they were ready for us, so hard to relax. Would have loved to go to the aircraft carrier museum. Have to say, I don't like LA itself.

OMG JB - how could she ?

Exciting news here - we are looking for a pony for ds Grin

amberlight · 05/11/2010 10:05

What sort of pony?

OP posts:
MaryBS · 05/11/2010 11:45

Personally, I was thinking £25 would come in handy! :o

MaryBS · 05/11/2010 11:46

or even this!

thumbwheel · 05/11/2010 11:51

JBM - am outraged and gobsmacked in equal measure re. the idiot woman! Can't believe anyone would be so irresponsibly careless! She is damn lucky that nothing happened or you could probably have sued her for the losses, as you wouldn't have been covered by insurance! What a stupid thing to do!

Pony? What sort? How big?
MIL threatened to get miniThumb a miniature pony for Christmas. They get to about the size of a large dog - but I bet they need more room than our back yard and they're still going to cost a bomb in vet bills. So we politely declined - although it would have been very cute! They're this sort of size and I've seen more of them over here than I ever saw in the UK.

UniS · 05/11/2010 12:02

morning all.
brief fly by while mum and dad have gone to get boy from preschool. I'm on call and then on site after lunch, so took this morning to clean out teh greenhouse and light a sulphur candle in there. Boy does it reeeeeek.

I think I'm going to get wet at work today. It been raining all morning, is not likely to get much drier this afternoon and will probadly get wetter tonight while we are packing everything up. JOY

HAvn;t read back much . but

JM - EEEEK. concentrate on " it was OK this time" maybe teh area is not as bad as you feared.

Mary , I'm confused, is it 25 quid a funereal or are teh 2 un realated.

Various school teachers and their woes. sympathy.

CMOTdibbler · 05/11/2010 12:04

My intention is a welsh sec A, somewhere up to 12hh max, and ds wants a grey. DH has phoned to see if this one is still available.

Theres a miniature at the stables that ds loves to cuddle - it does live in the garden though

thumbwheel · 05/11/2010 12:11

Beautiful, CMOTD!
Can't wait to get miniThumb into riding - he loves it already but I still haven't checked with the AAA how young they take children. Probably 4?

MaryBS · 05/11/2010 12:12

Unis A pony is Cockney rhyming slang for £25 (as opposed to a monkey = £500, etc) :o

Thats a really gorgeous looking pony, CMOT :)

thumbwheel · 05/11/2010 12:25

Have just emailed the local Pony Club to ask what their minimum starting age is :).

amberlight · 05/11/2010 12:33

I love deconstructing adverts in a naughty way:

"Pony club pony very successful in the local show ring this season. Suitable on and off the lead rein. Has hunted, Loves to be fussed and groomed, nice paces. Lovely careful jump will trot round course with novice or canter with more experienced rider. Lack of time and jockey forces sale"

"Pony club pony has won 'best groomed pony' several times in the Little Puddlemore fair (entries - two). Did hunt, went wild, overtook huntsman and kicked the hounds. Huntmaster threatened some things in language I won't repeat. Is very attention-seeking and likes to bite people. Notice I've said nothing about how he boxes (badly) shoes (like a demon possessed) or clips (expect to be retrieving him from the next county after he's bolted). For 'canter' read "gallop at full pace like a wild thing once off the lead". No time to ride him for a year so he's green as hell and fat as a pudding, good luck".

Or he could be marvellous! Grin

Amber you could have fun with this one:

horsey

I particularly liked "showing real talent to go far & excel in any sphere"

Can they fit a horse in one of these?

amberlight · 05/11/2010 14:12

"showing real talent to go far & excel in any sphere. Big honest jump, lovely paces. Kind, affectionate & very trainable nature. Lightly successfully competed showing great potential. Excellent in heaviest of traffic. Good to box, shoe, catch etc. Snaffle mouth, Weatherby?s passport. Very sad sale but being completely wasted in present home"

equals

"Barely trained as yet, won first prize in the 'jump over a matchstick sized fence' competition in the local fair, needs a ton of work done and I can't be arsed." I'm too cynical, aren't I Grin

I just posted my theory on the better and worse parts of a bottle of wine on FB if anyone wants to come snurk at me. :o Have come to the conclusion that the crappy part of the bottle is the part you shouldn't have drunk. That was a half-glass too many. Ouch, my head.

Am at the pony puns. And thank you for clearing up the pony and monkey references to money - reading Georgette Heyer, I always wondered what it meant when someone said "I'll wager a monkey..." or "I'll lay you a pony..." Now I know.

We had an early start today because the plumbers arrived at 8 am to start hooking up my new tub and shower. Whee. I'd be even more thrilled if I weren't feeling a little sensitive to hammering :o

And my lovely mum arrives tonight, to look after me Monday when I have that final little op for my poor bits. When I spoke to the surgeon again he said it was very straightforward and nothing to worry about, mainly external "detailing", LOL. Note to self, must remember to buy a bag of frozen corn :o

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 05/11/2010 17:52

What a lovely pony!
Good luck for Monday, JM!

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 18:41

I am trying really hard to catch up on trg (tea room gossip) but Milk is insisting I talk to her while she sits in the cupboard. She got in the cupboard and shouted ""But you have to talk to me - it is the game!"

So I said drearily "OK... ummmm...What are your thoughts on the economy?" She stormed out in a fury and said "I don't want to talk about that. Now I am going to go back in the cupboard and this time it will be a much better game if you only talk to me about... zebras!"

  • GULP - I think it is going to be one of those evenings.. Hmm
teafortwo · 05/11/2010 18:53

WHAT a beeeeaaaautiful pony!!!!!!!!!!!

cmot - I think it is impossible to say no - !!!

I luff ameeemuls. I am discussing zebras with a girl sitting in a cupboard chatting with my fb friend who really is a dog (I am trying to work out who in our family is 'helping' him type) and talking in a tearoom with a teacher donkey called donki about a pony....

Scout19075 · 05/11/2010 18:58

Thank you to the nice person (still not sure if male or female) who didn't speak to me and didn't smile but grabbed BabyScout's stroller as I was bumping him up the stairs at Victoria and helped me carry him. And thank you to the nice boy-man who saw me heading towards the steps on the way home and said "Here, let me help you" and grabbed him before I could say "Thank you!"

However, no thank you to all of the people who glared at me on the tube because I had a stroller. It was NOT rush hour and I had every right to travel. BabyScout did not shout, cry, scream or even babble -- he sat there playing with Bun and smiling at people. Back off to your caves, you grumpy miserable people!

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 19:02

To add insult to injury Milk has just come out the cupboard with a wand and said "Aaaaaaaa crab brrrra dap bra now you are now a pig, Mummy" I think I really need to call the dr now.

Amber - Thanks for asking about my evening. Last night I took hot Milk to bed and stayed there listening to the radio. Today, incase you are interested was a bit more uppie then downie... Smile

I am also a big fan of Melvyn Bragg small!!! DH always moans about me insisting on litening to 'In our time' every Thursday night on 'listen again'. I think it isn't that he dislikes Mr Bragg but that he is quite jealous of my 100% awe and wonder at him. Blush Interestingly he was on my "friends to drink lots of wine with" but of course in the fantasy I would not feel overwhelmed giggly or shy but would be full of interesting conversation and he would say things like "Really, I've always thought that too tea"!

Scout19075 · 05/11/2010 19:06

Grin at Milk -- I like her style!

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 19:07

yaaaaaaaay to scoutilicious for surviving the big smoke!!!!

Seems like nicies out weighed the pouters which is always a good thing.

I once had to cross London at midnight with a baby and big backpack... it was amazing how lovely everyone was!!!

I like London 'tis very human!

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 19:11

Amber - was a bit more uppie then than downie (ooooops)

teafortwo · 05/11/2010 19:12

I better go and get Milk ready for bed...

Talk later x x x
