Tea Room the Nineteenth

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Hello all!

CMOTD - I assume this is a different one to the previous pony that you showed us?

Donki - we are waiting for you to join us in the other place - apparently all you have to do now is accept your invitation, which Scout has sent you :)

Tea - oh I didn't say I wasn't tired! My brain might think it's awake, my bod suffers enormously from the lack of sleep. :(

UniS - glad Boy benefited from the outdoor activity :)

Bolly sounds good, thanks

Donki · 20/11/2010 22:31

TW
Unfortunately the invitation seems to have got lost in the post...:(

thumbwitch · 20/11/2010 22:31

sooooo - AIBU to be in a sulk with MrThumb for refusing to acknowledge that miniThumb had a pooey nappy this morning, while I was still asleep, ignoring him and pretending not to understand and then fecking off into the garden, leaving miniThumb to get me out of bed to change his nappy? I know he did, btw, because as I woke up I could hear what miniT was saying to him and he was pretending not to understand.

Am very pissed off because MrT had himself just been on the bog in the bathroom, creating a stench - so I had a double whammy to deal with straight out of bed - Not Good!!

Donki · 20/11/2010 22:32

Thanks for the bucket of tea, SB

Night all. Help yourselves to carrots...

UniS · 20/11/2010 22:34

need I say that boy was rather better when he woke up this morning. Yesterdays (poorly) boy would not have managed to walk teh mile to next village, today's one was MUCH bounceyer.

Poor ole wiggle, she's got a dose of what ever it is badly hasn;t she. Hope you all survive teh house arrest.

Do you think a woodburner would serve as a bread oven in extremis?? just wondering how much we can cook if we have prolonged power failure. Anything on the hob is fine as that is on bottled gas, but oven is elec.

How is christmas present choosing going for you ladies. I'm most of teh way there now, just spent an hour on Amazon pulling a large order together for the American N&Ns.

SCout- question for you in the "other " tea room.

thumbwitch · 20/11/2010 22:44

Oh dear Donki - will have to ask Scout to re-issue it then!

Scooooouuut - Donki can't find her invitation, can you send it again please? Ta muchly. :)

UniS - I don't know that a woodburner stove would double as a bread oven - good for making soups and stews on the top, maybe, but the bread could be... well, let's just say interesting. You could try though and let us know how you get on! If you go for making flatbreads, it might work?

oxeye · 21/11/2010 00:17

Scout that is great news. Well done. Yah!!
Thumb good for you. Keep on swimming.
I am knackered. Off to bed. Did some Pudsey last night too, Small

Serpent. I am desperate to know if Wriggle is fairies up again xx

thumbwitch · 21/11/2010 00:22

just been for a cycle ride - ugh! nasty little hill I wasn't expecting on the way back nearly did for me. At least MrT had miniT on the back of his, not me, so that's one good thing.

Very :( and Hmm though - we saw at least 8 dead kangaroos down there and not many live ones - so it looks like either some bastards have been down killing them for sport, or they've had a cull and some took longer to die than others so didn't get cleared away in time. Either way, not a good thing for miniT to see, really.

Donki · 21/11/2010 08:16

Where do you live now TW? (which State I mean, I don't want to outyou!)

amberlight · 21/11/2010 08:44

Another one hoping there'll be pictures of the new pony, CMOT Smile

Here, settling in Mr S the new cat has been, er, fun Hmm Confused. He's an All Night Waker, that's for sure. After 5 hrs of him proving he can open doors Shock and yell very loudly about needing company/wanting to be let out (no chance...), he ended up in the kitchen. Mr B is beyond horrified now and well into "that's it, I'm leaving home!". Always an experience settling in new animals...pass me the tea/gin please...

Am in NSW, Donki - 1.5h north of Sydney. Not quite Sticksville. :)

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 21/11/2010 10:41

Morning all!

Busy day today. After a false start yesterday - ended up buying, ahem, presents for self and SmallGirl - we are going out to attempt our first real Christmas shopping. Wish me luck.

amberlight · 21/11/2010 12:56

Good luck!!
We're off to watch finelad playing a league match for rugby in a few mins...then a return to a giant ironing pile and some cooking Hmm.

UniS, I have responded in the other tea room.

TW/Donki, I've resent invite. Hopefully it has worked this time.

Donki · 21/11/2010 17:06

Hurrah!
I've found the way there! You didn't tell me that I had to go down the road past the town square, take the small lane past the elderly (and very picturesque) French Church (the Bishops were just coming out of the porch, all in their Sunday best, and then through the field where the Bison were frisking in the sun, dodging frisky Bison horns....
Then over the lane at the far side, and there it is! The other tearoom!

UniS · 21/11/2010 19:03

My boy is VERY up and down, after yesterday when I'd have said he was better, today he woke up with what looks very much like impetigo. BUM, so, YET another day off preschool and I shall attempt to get him seen at the Drs tomorrow and get some AB cream so he CAN go back to preschool on Thursday ( 48 + hours after treatment starts IIRC). BUM.

Its going round KS1 at school, he was at school on Thursday And has had a play date with a YR boy , who also appears to have caught it along with his younger brother. JOY. Please tell me you can only catch it once?

teafortwo · 21/11/2010 21:11

impetigo, UniS... BLAAAAAAAAAAH.... you have given me flashbacks to my teenage years.

I was studying WW1 in history and was very moved by it. I remember reading about how the soldiers suffered terribly with impetigo. A week later in a fit of extreme teenage sympathy I actually broke out in the most disgusting impetigo myself! Just thinking about it has made me itch all round my mouth and all over my head... be careful it spreads like wild fire and ithces like HELL!!!

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 21/11/2010 21:12

Just looked up impetigo. Not looking hopeful for only catching it once. Apparently it is most common in young children and people who play contact sports such as rugby. Careful FineLad.

teafortwo · 21/11/2010 21:25

I CANNOT stop scratching thinking about boy!!!

I remember having to put lots of yucky 'good for me' cream on from the dr that seemed to dry up the sores quickly and stop my nearest and dearest from catching it too.

oooh - good yuck luck, poor you...!!!!

I remember the night bing very long and uncomfortable... have you got anything in the cupboard (e.g Calpol maybe) to help him sleep a bit?

JBsmama · 21/11/2010 21:43

May I just moan for half a minute? My stitches are driving me up the wall and down the other side. They're pricking and poking me and the itch is almost unbearable. And of course I can't exactly scratch . I think JB and I will have to make a trip to the drug store (chemist's) and get a very powerful local anaesthetic spray. That's what the surgeon recommended. I emailed him (as he said I could) and he replied almost immediately, was very sympathetic but said he absolutely did not want to clip the stitches because he's afraid that they're still needed to hold together my formerly ragged bits. He suggested sitz baths (done those, they do feel good), antibiotic cream to make sure that nothing gets infected from poky bits, and the aforementioned local anaesthetic spray. Sigh. It's really very uncomfortable :(
And it's worst at night. I think because there's nothing to distract me. It still prickles and itches during the day but at least I'm busy. I think I might try a sleeping pill tonight.

Ok, done complaining. For now.

Poor UniBoy with impetigo... I feel his pain re: the itch.

Hugs to the rest of you. Back to my mountain of laundry and dishes. We are back from Seattle and oh-my-dog is it cold here. There is snow on the roofs!! (Should that be rooves or roofs? I never know.) Brrr.

teafortwo · 21/11/2010 21:55

Oh JB - poor you too!!!

Sad
oxeye · 21/11/2010 22:58
