Tea Room the Nineteenth

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

CMOTD - goodish about ADs - they're only temporary after all. Very good about hand specialist - hope he/she can give you a few more definitive answers. Love your parents' hometown, btw!

MT - I have no probs with the ... myself - I don't think anyone really did until that poster, daftpunk, came along and it is one of her trademarks, hence it has fallen out of favour somewhat. I will always use them still when needed... Grin

It has been wicked hot and muggy today! I started the day bravely, went to a new swimming club thingy at 8am (I am so not a morning person) and realised how rubbish I am at swimming. I was never that good, my big bugbear is putting my face in water, hate it. So have bad style and can't do front crawl at all well. I wasn't sure whether or not to go back next week but my friends from playgroup told me not to give up, I'll get better (yeah, maybe). It was a good workout but I've been wiped for the rest of the day! I know early exercise should be invigorating and kickstart the day, but maybe that's only for morning or fit people - certainly didn't work for me. :(

Travel day, travel day, travel day is here! Grin

Have a great journey Scout - and remember, it is only a finite amount of time so even if BabyScout doesn't have the best time, it will be over soon. Hopefully he will have a grand time though - miniThumb seems to quite enjoy flying (praise be!) :)

Scout19075 · 13/11/2010 07:34

The last two times we've gone (BabyScout was 2.5 months and 6 months) he was brilliant. However, he's mobile now and we're on the morning flight instead of the afternoon one. It will be interesting. But I'm sure it'll be okay. I have some of his favorite toys in his nappy bag, as well as Bun (his bunny).

YAY for going home!!!

Oh, and thumb, they only took half an armful of blood yesterday. LOL I drank so much before my appointment that I was flowing like a river and it was one of the fastest blood withdrawals I think I ever had for the number of tubes they took.

Off to pack my medicine into the cool box so I don't forget it!

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 13/11/2010 11:39

Bon voyage!

WhyIsThatThen · 13/11/2010 13:19

Safe journey Scout!

UniS · 13/11/2010 17:14

bon voyage scout, see you on teh other side of teh pond.

We are off to carnival ( again) hurrah. just watching this one, not walking. boy is having 30 mins quiet in bed to prepare himself for it.

Catitainahatita · 13/11/2010 17:37

Hello all, and a big welcome to DutchOma and WhyIsThatThen ...

I'm the Mexican contingent in the tearoom. Judging by the lastest events I am probably the one living in the most dangerous location too. (The Navy killed the leader of one of the drug cartels currently battling for control of the state in which I live; and the violence is spiralling once more). I need not say that me and Mr. Hatita plus 2 young 'uns (girlie aged 1 and a wee lad aged nearly 3) are trying madly to go somewhere else. I have a possible job offer in Mexico City; I'm off there on 25-26 of the month to an event in place of possible job offer. I have to do a presentation (I'm an academic) and seriuosly woo them.... Fingers crossed.

I'm still exhausted; another karakoe fest at my neighbour's on Thursady night (WTF on a school night!) has once more knocked me for six.

Plus, it's Saturday and because of the whole project handing in crisis, I am so severely behind with other stuff that here I am.

Someone pass the chocolate and the whisky and possibly the gin....

Catitainahatita · 13/11/2010 17:41

Sorry, am too busy drowning in my sorrows to wish bon vogaye to Scout and send supportive vibes to Mary and Mistle and Unserpent. I also hope Amber is having a great (and much deserved) holiday.

Oh and: Amber I think your advocate sounds lovely and her advice is spot on.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 13/11/2010 18:06

Oh, Catita. The job offers sounds like a glimmer of real hope but otherwise, how grim. Would a back rub from Mellors be of any help?

thumbwitch · 13/11/2010 18:07

Catita - sounds quite Shock and a bit frightening - everything crossed that you get a job in Mexico City! What about Mr Hatita - will he need to get one there too? Or would he become SAHD?

I forgot to mention for the info of WITT and DutchOma - I am in Australia and post at odd hours. This is one of them - I am awake too early in the morning here, too hot/muggy and DS too restless. DS (miniThumb) is nearly 3 (wah! Where did the time go?) - MrThumb is Aussie, hence dragging moving us out here last year. Am getting accustomed to it but still whinge a fair bit.Blush

Mary - hope WBD was relatively non-eventful for you all.

Catitainahatita · 13/11/2010 18:16

Mr. H would also need to get a job there for the move to be financially viable, unfortunately. I've whinged before how we only decided to buy here a couple of years ago after uming and ahing about going back to Mexico City since we arrived in 2004. Our house is virtually unsellable in the current security crisis (as it is euphmistically referrred to here in the press ... absolutely no reporting goes on here, much too dangerous, local papers run with stories of car crashes...)
Thus we need to be able to pay the morgage and rent.... ha. We can borrow money to get us through if both are working, but not if just one.
Mr. H is currently pulling all strings he can think of .... Probabky he'll be able to get teaching hours somewhere and get a ft job later on.

oxeye · 13/11/2010 23:00

Oh Catita poor you. Are you all in danger or is it just unpleasant. I really have no clear idea about the situation but if I can help at all I will. If you want to pm me to discuss please do. Give gatita and sweet kittenito a kiss from me

Scout19075 · 14/11/2010 19:36

Hello! We are here, though jet-lagged thanks to poor BabyScout's messed-up body clock. I think we are close to getting him on track, though.

BabyScout's cough has come back, and came back quickly and just as bad, maybe worse, so might see if my former GP (who is still M&D's GP) will see him. He is being thoroughly spoiled by his Grandmom and Grandpa, which is as it should be.

Oh Catita, it all sounds grim. Without giving away too much, are you in one of the northern border towns?

WITT, I realize I haven't introduced myself properly. I'm Scout and I am the resident American-living-in-England. We have, as you probably guessed, come home for a visit. MrScout is English so we have made our home there. BabyScout turned one during the last week of October. I have funny spellings and sayings and ask all sorts of questions. I did not return to work after maternity leave and am now a SAHM. I'm probably one of the newer residents of the Tea Room.

Hope amber's holiday is restful.

JBM, are you still resting or do I need to cross the border and sit on you? (A scary propect given how boney my bum is.)

UniS · 14/11/2010 19:38

evening all, who would like a chocolate?

Unis passes around teh box of requirement.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 14/11/2010 19:46

Yes please, UniS. Are there any toffees? But of course, it's the choc box of requirement.

Yay for the Scouts almost being back on US time.

DutchOma · 14/11/2010 20:13

Amber slept for twelve hours

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 14/11/2010 20:21

Good. I hope she feels better for it.

Have you had a chocolate, DutchOma?

DutchOma · 14/11/2010 20:36

No...

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 14/11/2010 20:39

Could you be tempted to a chocolate?

JBsmama · 14/11/2010 21:07

I could be tempted to a chocolate or two.

For anyone who wants to know, I'm still taking it easy. I haven't used my pain meds since Wednesday because I haven't needed them, I've managed with Tylenol and ice or a warm pack. Have my post-op check on Tuesday, and am curious to ask the surgeon what exactly needed doing. Without wanting to overshare, I feel like I'm pretty sewn-up! BlushShockGrin[eeewww] Enough said.

I can't remember if I said welcome to DutchOma and WITT. I'm the Tea Room's Canadian Content. Oxeye thinks I wear plaid flannel all the time and I let her believe it :o. I live on the West Coast, about 45 mins east of Vancouver, in British Columbia. DS is 2.9. DH always only wanted one, and I was old(er) when I had him, nearly 39, and his birth was the kind that ensures he'll be an only. Hence the second repair op last week :)
I've been in the Tea Room since TR the First and can't imagine my life without everyone here.

Would anyone like a glass or three of a lovely Old Vine Zinfandel from BC's Okanagan Valley that I found last week? Yummy...

Scout, so glad you made it safely. Was thinking of you. Yes, please, do come and make sure I'm resting :o

Catita... oh dear :( (((HUGS))) Good luck with job hunting for both you and MrH. I wish there were something more useful I could say.

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 14/11/2010 21:09

Did you mention wine?

DutchOma · 14/11/2010 21:17

Thank you. May I have a chocolate with marzipan inside, please.

JBsmama · 14/11/2010 21:24

How is everyone?

roslily · 14/11/2010 21:30

Right I have been absent, sorry. Been really busy.

I am trying to sell enough stuff on ebay to buy a kindle.

It started as a way of getting rid of baby stuff [sob] and then treating myself with proceeds.

I have made £87 so far, and so now I am sorting through baby clothes. Quite emotional, but I am not a sentimental person, so I just keep thinking of that Kindle, and all the space they take up. It will be good when they are gone, it is definite then.

So ladies I bring some chocolate and collapse in a corner.
