Tea Room the Nineteenth

1000 replies

amberlight · 02/11/2010 10:44

All in need of a restful break and a chat are more than welcome to the nineteenth Tea Room.

We find ourselves in the South of France, where the warm sunshine is just the thing for those who are missing the summer. The tea room has its aga and its distressed chintz sofa...and its potted plants. The usual fictional tea room inhabitants are here, as ever: Mellors, the gardener/handyperson with the handy ways with massage; the collection of tea room animals including the horses, camel, bison, guineapigs and sundry others; the Bishops and other faith leaders who joined us a while back and potter in for the occasional cuppa. It may not make sense, but that's not important. What matters is the lovely people here and the chance to just relax.

Enjoy that trip!
Off today to the sunny(?) West for a week with dh to recover our senses. Knowing what I'm like, I'll still look in from time to time anyway...

What, nice to meet you do you want to tell us about yourself at all?

Morning, I shall tell you a little....

I am in denial almost 40yrs, live on the edge of the Chiltern Hills in Bucks. I have a DH and a DD who is 11yrs. I am, at the moment a SAHM but am looking to go back to work soon. Love MN and FB tooooo much!!!

WhyIsThatThen · 12/11/2010 08:09

Have a safe trip Scout!

WhyIsThatThen · 12/11/2010 08:09

Oh and Amber too, have a lovely break.

MaryBS · 12/11/2010 08:09

Argh I HATE World Book Day! Angry

mistlethrush · 12/11/2010 09:28

Mary - have you got to do a costume??? When for?????

The one time when I've been asked to do a costume so far, mistlechick was very happy to go as Christopher Robin. So, shorts and checked shirt, with a soft toy Pooh and relevant book - sorted. Grin

We've been told we've got to have something spotty for them to wear next Friday. Of course, it comes after one of my very rare visits to the shops where I might have been able to find something appropriate (I was going for non-iron school shirts - can you believe that the large, very well known group that begins with M with an ampersand and S at the end has run out, completely, of all sizes between 4 and 11 of long sleeved white (non iron) shirts???)

But another birthday party today, so might have to nip into town at lunch time.

After my ranting about school, MC has had a bit of a better week - whilst he didn't get a sticker yesterday, he got a reasonable comment - although it did say 'I do think that he could be making more effort not to interrupt' which I think is a big Hmm - he's only 5.5 and he clearly IS trying.... (Very Trying!! Grin)

You can now set him reading in the kitchen whilst doing things and help out with the odd word here and there - with, for instance, the Mr Men books, so I think his reading's coming on OK.

The contract that DH has been told he is going to get, he has also been told that they don't know when they'll get around to sorting the details out. So its back on with a full-scale job hunt again Hmm. He could have been working for 2 wks already, so I'm not amused. However, he is getting contacted about other jobs that sound interesting, so that's good. He just needs to secure one of them and get going.

thumbwitch · 12/11/2010 11:24

how many times has this proverb crossed your mind, MT: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush...
I'd be hopping mad too. I know it is important that they get a job that they like and brings in enough money - but sometimes it's more important to just have a job and bring in any money. (Can you tell I've been in a similar situation?)

CMOTdibbler · 12/11/2010 11:29

Whyisthat - that must mean you live under the red kites then ? My parents live on the berks/oxon border, and often have 6 kites over the house - but my dad whistling to them to come down is a real sight.

Went to the gp and got some ADs prescribed this morning. Hopefully this will help me cope with everything a bit better, and stop bursting into tears.

What a stupid twit Serpent - I'm not sure if I could have stopped myself saying something rude tbh

Coffee and pastries ?

amberlight · 12/11/2010 12:22

Yes please for coffee and pastries, CMOT. ((((Hugs)))) re how you're feeling, too.
Your parents must be within a very short distance of me then.
I'm packed, but dh is still at work trying to make up for the hours lost whilst sitting on a train yesterday. No doubt we'll be on holiday some time today Hmm

Today is WBD. Last minute change of plan, many tantrums and tears and not wanting to go to school. (and that was just me!)

CMOTdibbler · 12/11/2010 12:40

Yes, I don't think they are far at all - they are in W/ford on the thames.

I was resistant to the ads as I don't think I'm that depressed per se, but certainly a week away from it all showed me that I was not being myself, and while at this difficult stage of am I disabled/will this all be much better in 6 months etc, I need the chemical help.

Have got a referral to use private insurance to see an uber hand specialist - as it happens the best hand unit is in the town I used to live in. A long way, but I can go into the office while I am there and so get work to pay the mileage

amberlight · 12/11/2010 12:57

Mary, eek re tantrums etc - have the priest hole and duvet...

CMOT, hooray re referral to top hand people. I promise I won't say anything bright and breezy about the possibility of being disabled, in case you might be tempted to take a swing at me with the good hand. Can offer large virtual cuppa if that's any use?

WhyIsThatThen · 12/11/2010 13:08

CMOT Yes, we often have the Red Kites circling and they are beautiful. Often it seems as if one is watching me, I'm certain it swoops lower than the others! I am fairly close to watford, my DH works not too far from Watford and I have been there to shop sometimes. Its about 30mins from home.

Amber We must be close by too then!

Wow, its a small world after all! Smile

mistlethrush · 12/11/2010 13:49

Different W'ford I think WITT - and my parents live 3 miles from the one that CMot is talking about - and have red kites over the garden too. Having moved away when they were just getting introduced into the thames valley, I moved to another part of the UK where there was also an introduction program - whilst I live on the outskirts of a city, I still sometimes see the odd Red Kite over the garden, and can normally see one if I head north a little. I know the first time I saw one, wild, non-introduced, in Wales I just had to stop the car it seemed so HUGE!

CMot - glad you've got something to help - I'm not surprised with all the issues you have going at the mo. Have a (((hug))) to go with your pumpkin soup?

Amber - have a nice break - when you eventually get going!

CMOTdibbler · 12/11/2010 13:49

Amber, I'd actually feel better if they said 'right, thats all the function you will have' and I could get on an expend money on IR control for the car, say I'll do paradressage etc, than this 'ooh, well, it is very nasty, ummm' thing where I just don't know what will happen, and can't make the mental adjustment.

Not Watford, Wallingford Smile

CMOTdibbler · 12/11/2010 13:52

I used to see the welsh ones in Rhyader when I ventured there to test x-ray units and was amazed at them. Never thought they would be a routine sight

WhyIsThatThen · 12/11/2010 16:07

Ohh, silly me. Apols.

mistlethrush · 12/11/2010 16:18

You don't need to apologise... (there go the 3 dots TW!) some of us have been here from the start, others, like me, found their way in close to the start, so we've picked up a little about various geographical locations. Its still not that distant! Grin

Do you have a profession (which you might or might not want to share)?

How's your dd getting on with school - was this a new school year?

And I think that there might be a few of us somewhat more aged than you Blush

ASmallBunchofFlowers · 12/11/2010 16:29

Don't get me started on the subject of age.

mistlethrush · 12/11/2010 16:49

Smallbunch - I've just decided to ignore the issue. Although ds does seem to be asking how old I am on average every two days at the moment which doesn't help with the plan very much Grin

Scout19075 · 12/11/2010 18:36

Tell them what I do: My inner child is five. She's old enough to know things like colors/letters/numbers but is young enough to play without any inhabitions.

Good appoinmtent at the hospital today. This time tomorrow we will be up and dressing/breakfasting and loading up the car for Heathrow.

WAHOO!!!

I'm in the mood for sweets, would anyone else like some?

UniS · 12/11/2010 19:39

ohhhh yes please, liquorice allsorts for me please. or maybe clarnico mint creams, or maybe jelly babies....

DH was up and out at unholy O'Clock this morning to drive to Oxon for a meeting and tehn got back home just in time for boys bedtime. hes gone to the pub now, coz he needs a walk and a drink.

WhyIsThatThen · 12/11/2010 20:05

Well at the moment I am a SAHM, prior to that I was a dispenser in a community pharmacy. Sadly I injured my neck last Oct and I ended up giving up my job. The advise of my spinal surgeon was to not return to that profession. I loved it and was heart broken for many months.
I am now embarking on a new career as a childminder, I love children and enjoy spending time with all ages. I love doing craft activities, I'm not very good though. So I really think I can make a difference to some families lives. I hope to go live in Jan/Feb depending when all the checks have been made. [smiley]

Wow, I really could give my real identity away there.

oxeye · 12/11/2010 21:57

Hi Why. Thanks for telling us about you. I realise that probably sounded a bit abrupt, for which apols.

I have been in all the Tearooms. I love it here. Don't really do much else on Mn and am not on Fb. I can't just about remeber my 40th Smile and have one Ds aged 4. So I obviously pissed about in my 20s and 30s Grin
my Dh goes away a lot and I work but don't want to say more in obe post ...

Other than welcome
racing I'd have snatched back things from horrid thoughtless work friend colleague
cmot glad you are getting help both chemical and hand experty. I know some names if you want to pm me but you probably do too
I am taking a might off. Glee. Am shutting computer. No more work until Sunday. Am going to lie on sofa with wine and DVD. Hurrah
Amber safe downtime
scout safe travels
jm hope bits ok
unis and mistle

oxeye · 12/11/2010 21:59

Oh and Scout. I realise my inner child is an old Fokker too Grin
