Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Wow UniS, that will be great!

I think I gave the wrong link for the kindergarten. I'll find the right one and put it up tomorrow.

Sleep well.

thumbwitch · 16/09/2010 23:49

Oxeye, are you going to join us on The Other Forum? I can't remember how you do it now, something to do with Scout - perhaps she'll remind us?

JBsmama · 17/09/2010 00:03

Thanks AandO :) - was a bit worried when I didn't hear back from you.

Scout19075 · 17/09/2010 07:53

thumb, cardiac baby is in reference to me. I was born with heart problems and in the little hick town I was born in they wrote me off and said I wouldn't live past the age of two. HA! I'm 36 now. I had open heart surgery three weeks before my 10th birthday. I have check-ups once a year to make sure all is still well. Had LOADS of check-ups when pregnant, even had a scan just focusing on BabyScout's heart when he was 20-something weeks cooked. He had an ECHO in August to do a double check but I knew by the way he's growing all is fine.

amberlight · 17/09/2010 08:59

Blimey, Scout - so glad you made it through that lot!

That calls for a large cup of something, and perhaps a bacon sarnie (since in real life we're all on a low fat diet to keep hubby company)

[Phew! No one noticed that all of mistlechick's activities are School ones so that I can simply abandon him at school for that little bit longer]

I have, this morning, discussed with mistlechick the fact that the lunchtime clubs will be picked today - I have already spoken to his teachers - French is one lunchtime club that he will continue with. However, he'd like to do Spanish - and I'm sure that he'd also like to join the ocarina club and some of the arty, making clubs. However, I've said to his teacher that I am happy for him not to do any of these because, just at the moment, I think its actually better for him to get outside and run off some of the energy - he's doing active clubs everyday at other times.

And I've still not got round to Beavers. However, we won't be getting in until 4.45 ish after clubs most nights - then we've got to sort homework (reading or writing) and get tea started for 5.30ish so that he can be in bed by 7 - so I think, for the moment, that we'd better not think about that this year.

CMOTdibbler · 17/09/2010 10:00

I don't plan on ds doing any out of school, weeknight activities for a good few years as there just isn't time, and we can't rely on always getting him to anything, unless it started after 6 - at which point he needs food and bed.

Thumb - wrist still painful, and no finger action yet. Going to physio on Monday, and have an acupunture appt too. Have a new painkiller regime to try. Once I have my new car, JB has got me the number of a guy who specialises in nerve release, so will give that a try too.

I forgot to tell you all that we went to Diggerland recently - ds thought it was amazing, as did dh and dad of ds's friend. Even I managed to drive a dumper truck and mini digger !

A bacon sarnie and coffee just hits the spot !

Scout19075 · 17/09/2010 10:20

BabyScout will join Boy Scouts in the family tradition of his parents. Hoping the BSA group at the base will allow him to join even though we're not connected to the base. (Really must ask!) We will continue with swimming as I think it's an important skill to have. Other than that, I figure when he's old enough he can tell me what he wants to try.

My SiL has said she'd take him flying (owns her own small plane), a friend has said she will teach him to sail (a certified sailing instructor) and one of my YLs has said she will teach him how to Irish Dance (she's been doing it for 12 years). MiL has already agreed to Latin lessons.

Thanks for the bacon sarnie -- feeling peckish this morning!

amberlight · 17/09/2010 12:33

There's a diggerland??! Shock Where? Can I go? Pleeeaaaase? Oh go on go on go on...let me...

MaryBS · 17/09/2010 12:37

There's more than one Amber. You can come with us if you like! We've never been either!

Which reminds you, must put up somewhere that picture of you at the controls of a digger at Legoland! The look on your face was a picture in itself, you looked SO happy! :o

CMOTdibbler · 17/09/2010 12:44

Devon (we went to that one), Strood in Kent, Yorkshire and County Durham. Nice and uncrowded, and terribly therapeutic to just dig. Or do doughnuts in a bobcat Grin
And the mini Land Rovers are ace. Def no small child required - there was a group of older ladies there the day we went

Looks like I get the new car on Wednesday - have ordered my adaptive aids, and it feels like a big step forward

amberlight · 17/09/2010 13:14

Does your adaptive aide look like Mellors and open the door for you so you can recline in splendour whilst he drives you to and from your appointments? I always hope for that sort, myself.

Shall look up Diggerland Smile

CMOTdibbler · 17/09/2010 14:01

Hmmmmmm - see, that's where I made a mistake. Filling the kitchen with gadgets for jar opening/tin opening/pepper grinding rather than just summoning Mellors Grin Bet he doesn't get in a strop when you just want your bra done up either

amberlight · 17/09/2010 14:04

Of course not. Mellors, being a True Gentleman, is able to do bras up without a hint of embarrassment or letching or stroppiness. I expect he also offers a post-being-chauffeured massage, too. Grin

Hi thumb what other forum (dense emoticon)

MaryBS · 17/09/2010 14:50

Yay CMOT, re: new car. Personally, I read it that you had the adaptive aids so you could DO a big step forward. How you do a big step forward in a car though, I haven't a clue!

JBsmama · 17/09/2010 15:26

Good morning all. I'm thinking JB would just loooooove Diggerland... and so would his mum... :o

My parents are here visiting, which is bliss for many reasons, such as my mum, who is a lovely cook, having dinner ready when I come home from work... ahhh...
Today we're going on an excursion across the U.S. border to drive up the road that goes up/around Mt. Baker, hopefully up to the snow line.

CMOT, I just emailed you, but had another thought he pain relief, will email you again.

Could I just briefly borrow Mellors to scratch that terribly itchy spot just under my right shoulder blade? Right... there... aaaaaaaahhhhhh.... mmmmmm.... ok, Mellors, I'll give you an hour to quit that :o

Catitainahatita · 17/09/2010 16:10

It's never too early for cocktails. Mellors has opened the beach bar as the sun is gently setting, and I see the Bishops have already formed a queue, clutching their "We've just met the Pope" flags and rolling up their trouserlegs so they can go for a wild paddle.

Done the lawn. Hoovered the house. Learned that ds has a singing part in the musical early next year Shock He can't sing. Do we think that's going to be a problem? Grin

amberlight · 17/09/2010 17:47

btw, what's HubbyScout done, if it's not too rude to ask?

OP posts:
Scout19075 · 17/09/2010 18:02

It's stupid, really, and more my problem than his. But he's worked from home today which means he spent the morning in town at the local coffee place. Only came home because I said BabyScout was going for his afternoon nap. BabyScout got up and HubbyScout has buggered off to the store after I said "When BabyScout goes to bed tonight I want to go to the grocerystore." ARGH!

I NEVER get to just wander out sans spouse and baby. EVER. Even Guide night I take BabyScout and only have about 45 minutes sans baby. I wanted 30 minutes of myself time to wander around the shop at a leisurely pace and get the things for the weekend.

amberlight · 17/09/2010 18:13

That's not stupid. You have a right to a life that isn't 100% duties and baby, and you have a right to have a partner that respects your needs. It's not like you wanted him to look after youngster for a week, just half an hour or so.

Have a large cocktail.
