Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

oh dear amber - I do hope that the Fine Lad is ok and can be sorted out :(

Catita - sounds horrendous and very disturbing - not helped by trigger-happy militia at all. :(:( What a horrible trap to be in - I hope you find a way out of it. MOre ((hugs)) for you.

thumbwitch · 30/08/2010 13:08

amber - see the FB page - I have put some info there that might be of use to you. :)

Catitainahatita · 30/08/2010 19:37

Sad Amber. I'm sorry to hear about your lad. It sounds very worrying. And always worse than if were happening to you....

Things aren't much better here. The mayor of Hidalgo was shot yesterday along with his wife and daughter.

Sorry to keep harping on. I will reign myself in shortly.

thumbwitch · 30/08/2010 20:12

Catita - can you not go away for a while, or are you more likely to run into trouble if you move? It sounds utterly horrific and feel free to keep sounding off on here because you need to let it out somewhere..
:(

UniS · 30/08/2010 22:19

eeeek, for Cat and Ambers situations.

Owwwww for CMOT.

ahhhh for Scout and any one else who needs one.

Yummmmm for twiglet suprise.

We be back in devon. Spent weekend with DHs family, staying with sensible SiL, and other In laws visiting / meeting up. today we had a big family day out at the plum festival. 6 kids, Teddy parachute jumping, plum tasting, go karting, ice cream eating, bouncy castle, short walk, picnic and playground, not in that order. Boy busy hero worshipping his 7 yr old cousin. Dh didn;t come out as he was feeling rough McRough, some bug or another, hes in bed again now having been back to bed for whole afternoon at SiLs.

Just hope he sensible and takes tomorrow off work.

Cuppa tea still on offer if any one wants one. OR I can whip up some thick sludgy hot choc if you prefer.

amberlight · 31/08/2010 11:33

Yes please for a cuppa.

Heck, it's quiet in here...really hope everyone's OK...

I have a tray of warm Danish pastries here, for anyone in need of sugar and cinnamon ....

amberlight · 31/08/2010 12:34

Yes please for those too! Smile

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 31/08/2010 16:20

Oh. It seems to be time for afternoon tea. Would anyone care for tea and a slice of cake, as we sit on the verandah admiring the limpid blue ocean.

amberlight · 31/08/2010 17:30

Oh go on then...
How's the holiday ironing mountain going?

MaryBS · 31/08/2010 17:51

Me too! Me too!

thumbwitch · 31/08/2010 21:01

It is rather quiet, isn't it - I guess the tropical beach hut has chilled everyone out to the max!

Coconut or pineapple daiquiri, anyone? I think Mellors is providing Sex on the Beach if you prefer (glass or jug)...

UniS · 31/08/2010 21:09

I'll take a glass.

Bug ridden DH seems to be on teh mend, SiL and DN3 have gone down with it now, guess its just going around the family.( DN1 had it sat night- Sunday) .

Boy and I seem clear so far. Boy spent the morning trying my patience as I had to take him to town to get some food shopping. Then he spent the afternoon being delightful and playing the garden , making a tent and creating a building site in a some sand.

Do those Danish pastries have custard in? ohhh, good, they do. Pass teh plate please.

Help me oh wise mums of girls....
Would your daughter(s) have liked a paper aeroplane kit ( with stickers and pre printed plane markings ) for her 4th birthday? Boy is convinced his friend will like them, I dooooo hope he rightish. I'll also parcel up with it a colouring book and a glittery flashing lights bouncy ball, which I'm sure boy is right about , she will like that one.

thumbwitch · 31/08/2010 21:37

Not a mum of a girl but as one myself (many many years ago) I would have liked the paper aeroplane kit.. I have noticed my Dad has some balsawood plane kits lurking around and am eyeing them covetously (but I might be weird) Wink

GLad you're avoiding the bugs so far!

I have to say, I opened (with some difficulty and much ingenuity) a bottle of 2001 French Merlot this eve and was most happy to discover that it was just Perfect.
The corkscrew broke (handle came off), I bent 2 knife blades, broke off the tip of a needle file, nicked the blades of the secateurs and finally managed to lever the cork out with a screwdriver! Worth it though...Grin

MaryBS · 31/08/2010 22:02

My DD would have loved an aeroplane kit. In fact, aged nearly 11, she is now eyeing up airfix kits for her birthday!

teafortwo · 31/08/2010 22:10

I need to catch up on tearoom happenings but, that will happen later, for now I plan to sit back in the sun and enjoy the good company of my dear tearoom friends - Aaaaaaaah!!! Bliss!!!

Smile
ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 31/08/2010 22:56

Lovely to see you encore une fois, Tea. Now that you have returned to the bosom of the tea room, perhaps we could restart the tradition of the tea room disco? I get a bit lonely throwing shapes on my own. So maybe at the weekend?

I'm not sure that SmallGirl would have welcomed an aeroplane kit for her fourth birthday, as four was the apogee of her pink and sparkly phase, but she'd like one now!

Catitainahatita · 01/09/2010 04:35

Hello all. I'm glad to say the only tragic news to rely today is that of Kittenito who somehow left his bestest-most prized-most loved toy (an aeroplane) in the chemist this afternoon.
We went back as soon as I realised (about 15 minutes later) but there was no sign of it. Either he dropped it elsewhere, or some other little boy took it.

He's a sad little man at the mo. But at least there are other toy aeroplanes to buy. It cheers me to know Ican still resolve most of his problems.

amberlight · 01/09/2010 13:44

DS's doc appointment this afternoon. Eek.

UniS · 01/09/2010 20:40

Unis removes a toy aeroplane from her tea. Thanks Amber.

Did a "day out" with boy and two of his preschool chums who are about to start big school. BOYS, why do they have to be competitive over EVERYTHING. Was quite a good day out despite that.

Scout19075 · 01/09/2010 21:10

but ran into one of my Seniors the other day as I was walking BabyScout back from a late afternoon of sand and sea frolicking. I looked a right state but BabyScout was beaming as he had thoroughly enjoyed his first coastal experience.

Now trying to write my letter of resignation -- any tips?

Will now try to catch up on the happenings here.

thumbwitch · 01/09/2010 22:11

Scout - resigning from the guides? Was that cowbag so bad that you have to? :(

Catita - :( for kittenito but indeed it could be worse and you can at least deal with this problem. I am relieved that miniThumb appears not to have any one favourite toy - he has several he likes and all replaceable (in fact his most fave is a black cat with an orange witch's hat and I already have a spare in readiness...)

Smallbunch - get the early 80s stuff out and I'll join you in throwing as many shapes as you like - just leave the UV strobe light in the box as I come over all funny whenever that starts up.

Took miniThumb out to lunch today at a friend's house - her 4yo "took agin" him and kept telling him so; then they played quite well together for a while until he had to go and play at a friend's house and when he came back he had taken agin miniThumb again. :(. Poor miniThumb - he doesn't normally get this treatment, usually little boys love playing with him but this one is a bit different :(.

Catitainahatita · 02/09/2010 04:12

If memory serves me Thunb, Scout is resigning from her job, now her maternity leave is ccoming to an end. But I could be wrong.

Sorry to hear MiniThumb had a hard time. It's very bewildering (not to say upsetting) for a little child when other children don't want to play with them or tell them that they don't like them. I hope he's recovering now.

thumbwitch · 02/09/2010 07:55

I think he's ok, thank you - he was very sad to leave, despite Other Boy's obnoxiousness.

Now you mention it, I think you are probably right re. Scout - I'd forgotten about that!

Hope things are quieter in your neck of the woods just now...

amberlight · 02/09/2010 10:12

Scout, I'd stay clear of writing

"Dear Manager, I hate you all - I'm delighted to be going and will hold a party to celebrate"

Apart from that, something fairly bland normally works well.

Who's for tea/coffee/breakfast? No, Mellors, you've had some. And the NMBs have nicked the croissants by the look of it Hmm

DS seeing consultant tomorrow afternoon.
