That we are actively trying to circumvent UK law with Sharia law. Of course we are! Just today I told the magistrate the speeding fine ain't valid, cos I follow sharia ennit, and she let me off!

That protests against the mass bombing in Gaza are antisemitic, and that the police turn a blind eye to it. Yeah right.

What else ladies? There's loads of crap they say about us isn't there.

I'm not Muslim, but one that really gets me is that ALL Muslims practice FGM on their girls.

Yes. This really gets on my nerves. Or that it's mandated by Islam when in fact its a cultural practice. Muslims are actually encouraged to enjoy sex within marriage so its such a stupid one.

It is astonishing how many people have very strong 'knowledge' on what people of the Islamic faith do and don't do when, in fact, they don't actually know any. This is even the case in my own area which has a fairly high Muslim population.

In fact the world would be a much better place if there weren't quite so many people who felt qualified to expound on things they know nothing whatsoever about!

ForPeaceSake · 24/11/2024 12:56

I'd never even heard of FGM till I was an adult, yet when I was pregnant a certain person behind my back was saying they hoped I wouldn't have a girl because they were afraid I'd have it done to her.

Who is your "they", OP?

Something like that :)

I was in the gym a couple of years ago when a group of women were banging on about not being allowed to say Happy Christmas any longer. I guess OP means fools like that?

@LegoHouse274 I think the word you're looking for may be "observant"?

I'm not Muslim myself but I had the pleasure of regularly visiting an Islamic faith girls' school in a nearby town. It was a bit of a walk back to the car park and on this day it was cold and rainy so I was bundled up in a scarf, woolly hat and hood.

As I got back to the car park, a hygiene company van pulled up and a woman carrying hygiene supplies got out. She stopped me, gestured to my hat, and said, do I have to cover my hair to go in there? I said not at all and went on my way. However, an small evil part of me has always thought I should have said 'yes, but just pop that bucket on your head and you'll be fine'. Sadly, I worry too much about my Karma to do that sort of thing!

No need for that, it's a perfectly reasonable question.

I think it was 'Massive Mohammed' for the alliteration 😂

Not the point but I quite like massive Mohammed

Which is why I answered it in a reasonable and friendly manner. I'm sure many people occasionally get a little alter ego voice in their heads - that they don't then act on.

Just the other day someone was ranting we can no longer say happy Christmas to retail workers. Because non Christians get offended. Said it has to be happy holidays instead which is an American saying.

But I know it's another bullshit lie from the far right. Just like the one about the st George flag and remembrance day poppies. I'm not a brainwashed racist.

At my work we aren't allowed to refer to Christmas corporately.

The Muslim male doctors that I worked with/was friends with, a lot of them had pre-marital sex with non Muslim women, cheated on their wives, some drank alcohol and some ate non halal KFC. They were just typical men, albeit quite morally questionable.

Someone once told me that women are the strictest observers of faith. And from what I've witnessed of men I believe it. I used to be managed by a religious Muslim man who cheated on his wife, smoked and drank. But interestingly he drew the line at bacon.

On a thread about lies told about Muslims, how can you make such a racist comment about a whole group of people?

And what about White Muslims? Do they hate themselves then? Or do they simply not exist in your world?

I don't.

Bosnian & Albanian Muslims are white European people. Do they hate themselves?

Isn't that poster just giving the example of a life that people say about Muslims? I think you and the other poster may have misunderstood?

This is the sort of misplaced ‘sensitivity’ which leads to division isn’t it? I work with people of many faiths here in the UK and worldwide. I’ve never experienced someone of any faith objecting to mention of a festival or celebration associated with a different faith, in fact we all wish each other happy whatever.

So in what way was he religious? 🤔

I must admit I did ask a colleague who wears hijab (checked first) about hairdresser visits and if she had someone come in to her home, it was just curiosity.

I think sometimes people are afraid they will offend so don't ask things.

Then there was the time I said to a student, "you look nice, have you got a new hair do?" Nope she was not wearing hijab that day.

Asking if we go to the salon or get it done at home is fine. But sometimes when I've casually mentioned I'm getting my hair done I get such incredulous looks and even laughter!

sprigatito · 24/11/2024 18:38

The current "two-tier policing" bullshit is particularly egregious. Utter nonsense.

I’m not sure because the comment was about white people hating Muslims, not the other way round? Doesn’t really make sense to me.

Yep.

My mother's workplace (years ago) sent a memo round saying it was Ramadan and people may be fasting.

Totally tone deaf that just about every faith has a version of fasting, I think the only one that doesn't is Buddhism

Of course it wasn't a Muslim who sent the memo..
