That we are actively trying to circumvent UK law with Sharia law. Of course we are! Just today I told the magistrate the speeding fine ain't valid, cos I follow sharia ennit, and she let me off!

That protests against the mass bombing in Gaza are antisemitic, and that the police turn a blind eye to it. Yeah right.

What else ladies? There's loads of crap they say about us isn't there.

Just the other day someone was ranting we can no longer say happy Christmas to retail workers. Because non Christians get offended. Said it has to be happy holidays instead which is an American saying.

But I know it's another bullshit lie from the far right. Just like the one about the st George flag and remembrance day poppies. I'm not a brainwashed racist.

Jellycoconut · 23/11/2024 22:24

That having a Muslim husband means he will pressure you to convert /revert, will make you wear a hijab and will be generally oppressive.
(I'm a Christian woman married to a Muslim man for over 10 years and have never experienced any of the above)

iwishihadaname · 23/11/2024 22:35

There is a thread on sharia law in uk at the moment

Hoppinggreen · 23/11/2024 22:37

I am not a Muslim so I hope its ok for me to comment.
The nonsense about how Muslims want to ban rememberence poppies seems to come up every year!

Wonderi · 23/11/2024 23:01

My favourite one is changing the name of the clock Big Ben to big Mohammad.

It was put on SM as a joke but the amount of people commenting being angry about it was actually quite shocking.

LaLaflower · 24/11/2024 08:32

Lies perpetuated about Muslims:

We all want to implement Sharia law

We all want to restrict women’s rights/ have all women wearing hijabs.

That we are going to take over the country

All Muslims are terrorists

LittleRedRidingHoody · 24/11/2024 08:38

That Muslims aren't/don't have any kind of fun!

I'm not Muslim, but a friend is and it's lovely to see someone so joyful about life ~ and so funny! ~ without linking everything to swearing and dirty jokes. She lives such a pure and simple life and it so happy about it. I definitely learn something every time I hang out with her.

sashh · 24/11/2024 09:00

Please take this is in the spirit intended.

That all Muslims are brown.

A work colleague was dumfounded when I said to her, "These are good Muslim girls, they don't drink" the students were from Kosovo.

BTW the work colleague was Muslim herself.

I think it was 'Massive Mohammed' for the alliteration 😂

That is hilarious! Did people really think it was going to happen?

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 24/11/2024 09:30

Loving these replies, massive Mohammed 😀

That Muslim women wear hijabs in the house and don't wear fancy underwear.

Yes, which is what prompted this thread. Its got the usual BS tropes on there which is hardly surprising. There seems to be regular threads like that on mumsnet theses days sadly.

I started a new job and there was a young man at the company from Russia who had been there a couple of months longer than me.
There was much gossip about how "boring" he was because he didn't drink and when I met him instead of shaking my hand he put his hand on his chest and inclined his head slightly, something I have seen other Muslim men who prefer not to touch non related women do and he always chose a non meat option when we ate together so I thought he may be Muslim.
Nobody at the company believed me as he didn't "look" Muslim and then wondered when and why he "converted"
(I wasn't gossiping, the young man told me and said he was happy for me to share that information)

That wives have to walk 3 paces behind their husbands. This one comes up all the time yet no one has actually seen it 🤔

ForPeaceSake · 24/11/2024 10:42

Surprise that we look after our hair or go to the salon or buy any clothing at all to wear under the abaya.

I must admit I did ask a colleague who wears hijab (checked first) about hairdresser visits and if she had someone come in to her home, it was just curiosity.

I think sometimes people are afraid they will offend so don't ask things.

Then there was the time I said to a student, "you look nice, have you got a new hair do?" Nope she was not wearing hijab that day.

MrsSunshine2b · 24/11/2024 10:58

I'm not Muslim but the ones I regularly see is that you all want to ban poppies, that you're offended by "Merry Christmas" and that you have stopped chocolate companies from writing "Easter" on Easter Eggs. Also, "Muslims are offended by this picture of a veteran with one leg, repost if you don't care!"

And let's not forget that most of London is now a no-go area without a hijab or if you drink alcohol. Always repeated by people who haven't been to London in years.

ForPearlViper · 24/11/2024 11:14

I'm not Muslim myself but I had the pleasure of regularly visiting an Islamic faith girls' school in a nearby town. It was a bit of a walk back to the car park and on this day it was cold and rainy so I was bundled up in a scarf, woolly hat and hood.

As I got back to the car park, a hygiene company van pulled up and a woman carrying hygiene supplies got out. She stopped me, gestured to my hat, and said, do I have to cover my hair to go in there? I said not at all and went on my way. However, an small evil part of me has always thought I should have said 'yes, but just pop that bucket on your head and you'll be fine'. Sadly, I worry too much about my Karma to do that sort of thing!

Elopelo · 24/11/2024 11:21

That Muslims can only be ‘moderate’ if they have lived in the West or had exposure to Western/secular culture.

When in actual fact moderation in religion has been prescribed by the Prophet PBUH and the Qur’an itself.

PsychoSyd · 24/11/2024 11:29

I'm not Muslim, but one that really gets me is that ALL Muslims practice FGM on their girls.

Newbie8918 · 24/11/2024 11:37

Non Muslim here and it makes me absolutely cringe.......

Not allowed to say 'happy Christmas'
Not allowed to decorate classrooms
Muslims are trying to ban the poppy
Hate the Union Jack

Blah blah blah. People actually sprout this tosh like it's a fact. When I ask how many Muslim people they've heard say this directly........none. They don't know anyone but Maureen shared it on Facebook 🙈

LegoHouse274 · 24/11/2024 11:38

One thing I encounter quite a lot is the idea that all Muslims are very religious and/or socially conservative and/or very 'practising' ( sorry don't know how else to phrase it) in a way that people don't expect people of other faiths to be necessarily. Then the flip side is if somebody is not like that they assume they have left the religion/arent a 'real' Muslim or whatever as if they don't 'belong' anymore - again not in a way people would describe or think of someone Jewish or Christian who for example doesn't regularly attend a place of worship or has sex before marriage or whatever else.

There's little understanding that all over the world Muslims identify as Muslim but may be very socially liberal/progressive and/or also do little in day to day life that marks them out as Muslim and/or may do things that might be traditionally seen as impermissible in Islam like I dunno wear a bikini or drink alcohol. Nevertheless these people still identify as Muslim, pray in difficult moments and have Islamic weddings and funerals - just like many people of other faith traditions attitude to their religions too.

CustardCreams2 · 24/11/2024 11:39

The Muslim male doctors that I worked with/was friends with, a lot of them had pre-marital sex with non Muslim women, cheated on their wives, some drank alcohol and some ate non halal KFC. They were just typical men, albeit quite morally questionable.
