Asalamualaykum all
I have been so busy with the kids this half term, that it has just dawned on me now that there isn't long left for Eid.
I created this thread to share all things Eid!
Everyone have their outfits sorted?
I also wanted to ask do your DC take chocolates or sweets in to school to share with their class for eid?
My DC normally take in a box of celebrations but was thinking if anyone else does anything different?

I ordered the kids outfits when I ordered for last eid so atleast that is sorted.
For the Udhiyah/Qurbani I'm still in two minds if I should do mine here or abroad.
I would like to do it in Gaza if possible or if not then Syria.

Wasalam, so soon and I'm really not prepared at all!

Got a couple of presents for DC but still need to get a 'main' present.

Got DC's outfit sorted, no idea what I'll wear though.

Food-wise, it's DH's turn to do the main dish so it'll be a surprise. Going to get DC to make some aloo ki tikki and a cake (very into 'baking' at the moment), and I'll make some pistachio kheer. Watermelon, homemade sorbet and dates for snacks.

We don't take in for other children due to allergies, but we take in traditional sweets for the nursery staff. The nursery does an Eid party and classroom project, so that'll be fun.

Wasalam!
Oh I'm no where near sorted I had forgotten tbh 🤦🏽‍♀️

Scirocco · 31/05/2024 16:24

DH usually organises where we do our Qurbani - we have a few countries on 'rotation'... but I've forgotten where we're doing it this year. I'll need to check 🤦🏻‍♀️

Parkingt111 · 31/05/2024 17:20

I still haven't got the DC or DH present 😬
I actually don't know what to get for my DC. I feel like they have sooo many toys and I know they will get some from family too. Clothes, I feel is abit of a cheeky gift as it's everyday wear we buy them anyway.
I'm trying to think of something they will like and fun but also useful and not more clutter
Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have the same problem @Parkingt111. My kids have just had all their birthdays and eid and I'm all out of ideas!
Maybe a day trip? Or an experience?

Scirocco · 31/05/2024 17:47

One of my 'cheat' presents for DC is actually boxes of cake mix...

DC loves baking, we can do it together, then they get to eat cake and share it with others. And at the end, the cake goes in the toddler (and others) and the packaging goes in the bin, so no extra clutter.

Walaykum salams, dc2 has grown out of his outfit (6 months now mashallah) so I need to get something for him. Our family is tiny so I’ll recycle something for me depending on the weather!

I might just recycle something for myself too.
I'm hoping for a warm eid but this summer isn't really summering yet 😂

@Scirocco @anotherlevel thanks for the ideas! I'm going to let them pick where they want to go for a day trip and then take them the weekend after eid inshAllah.

@Parkingt111 you're welcome!

Also not what you want to hear but we're due 50 days of rain and most likely a wet summer :(

I read that the other day 🥲
We have really been making an effort to tidy up the garden to get it ready for good use this summer.
Was looking forward to having my morning tea outside in the sun but perhaps not.
My DH will be happy, he loves rain 😒

It's annoying isn't it. We wait an entire year for the warm weather (that we only get for 5 mins a year) and it rains.
We have to say Alhamdulillah

It's showing rain on eid day too as far as I can see
Eid presents sorted Alhamdulillah and even managed to iron the kids eid clothes today so that's one thing done

Sorted, insha'Allah!

Although DC has now decided they love bubbles, so I may need to go get a bubble machine as well ... (They love them enough that they just came through to ask to play bubbles. At half ten. After an 8pm bedtime. The answer, unsurprisingly, was no.)

Haha my dc love bubbles too
As a child I loved playing with bubbles but we just had those little simple bottles. Now there's all sorts out.
In my days if you wanted big bubbles you needed skill to get them. None of these electronics to do it for you 😂

I'm going to outsource bubble blowing to a machine for the day. I'm usually opposed to machines taking people's jobs but in this case I'll make an exception...

Parkingt111 · 08/06/2024 23:27

@Scirocco if I had one of those as a child I would think I'm in bubble heaven. My kids have one too and they love it
It's been a long day including a trip to A&E with my eldest. I'm in there so often that most of nurses know me by name now 🙈
Thankfully all is well and we didn't have to stay but it's made me panic a little to get all my other preps done asap as you just dont know what's round the corner!
I have an aunt who was always telling me, save your money, don't buy takeaway, don't spend too much on clothes etc etc because...... you just don't know what's round the corner and now im wondering if i am morphing into her. To be fair we were going into a recession at the time.
Anyway thats enough of my ramblings for one night 😂

If you click on 'Talk', then scroll down the list, you can pick categories and then boards and then threads (it's a bit like those nesting dolls). The Muslim Mumsnetters board is in the 'Other' category.

Parkingt111 · 10/06/2024 12:11

You know when I said you don't know what's round the corner.... my other two DC now have the bug, vomiting and diarrhoea 😭
InshAllah I'm hoping better by Eid.
