Baby at a concert

Hi all
I have a 4 month old baby who's pretty chilled. I don't have family support, just me and my husband.

I recently booked a concert (classical music) for our one year wedding anniversary. It's in a small venue. I didn't even consider the fact that babies/children might not be allowed in until after I'd bought the tickets 🫠 and we've no one to babysit.

Should I still bring my baby?

I bought back row seats for swift exit.
He normally sleeps very well if I put him in the carrier. Recently I had to go to a funeral and he slept the whole service.

Please be kind but honest as to what I should do. Thanks

Of course you shouldn’t take a baby to a classical music concert!

RobinHeartella · 04/06/2025 17:03

I really wouldn't.

If you like classical concerts then you can take your baby to Bach to Baby concerts (it's not just Bach). I've been to some really nice ones.

alcoholnightmare · 04/06/2025 17:04

I’d ring the venue, I can’t see you being allowed to take a baby in. Sorry, but I also don’t think it’s appropriate to take him.
If on the off chance you are, I’d suggest noise cancelling headphones for him.

Menendall · 04/06/2025 17:04

Of course babies shouldn’t be allowed at a concert. No one wants to hear your baby when they’ve paid for a music event. Do the decent thing and sell your tickets on if you can’t get a babysitter.

RobinHeartella · 04/06/2025 17:04

Leave the baby at home with dh and go to the concert with a friend

Yogic · 04/06/2025 17:04

I wouldn't bring a baby to a classical music concert. Just cancel the tickets.

CleanShirt · 04/06/2025 17:04

No, it's not appropriate to bring a baby to a concert.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 04/06/2025 17:05

No. What happens when he or she cries?

pizzaHeart · 04/06/2025 17:06

Please don’t.
Of course babies are not allowed at a concert.

Worrywort98 · 04/06/2025 17:17

Ok. Thought as much. I phoned the venue and they didn't seem to know if it wound be suitable or not, so the staff member was going to pass on the message to the supervisor and get back to me.
It's a small somewhat informal venue so there's a 50/50 chance , who knows what they might say. I'll report back here but will be surprised if they allow it

Even if they do allow it it's still inappropriate. People are there to hear the music, not a baby.

This.

Your options are finding a babysitter; getting the tickets refunded if that is possible (or sold on?) ; or one of you staying home with the baby and the other one going with a friend.

Yes I thunk people who cough and sneeze excessively (not just the elderly who do so) and people who rustle sweet wrappers shouldn't be allowed either. Neither should phones. Whether the noise is voluntary or not, other people don't want to hear it at a concert. I also think a classical music concert at a small venue is very different from a Tenacious D concert. In a classical music concert the audience is expected to be quiet.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 04/06/2025 17:34

You can’t take a baby to a classical concert.

no matter the stereotypical whataboutery

Words · 04/06/2025 17:34

Absolutely not!!!

Words · 04/06/2025 17:35

Heard it all now.

thismummyslife · 04/06/2025 17:36

I was literally just thinking the same thing as you! My little one literally loves to sit and watch everything and hardly ever cries, but the response here, sheeesh x

Ninkynonkpinkyponks · 04/06/2025 17:38

No it’s not appropriate

Everyone is clutching their string of pearls!

And then the same people have the audacity to say classical music is a dying art because nobody attends the concerts. 🙄

When is it? A baby who sleeps all the time at 4 months might be quite different at 8 months

People are not clutching pearls. Most people on here have had babies themselves.

My youngest was the most chilled out baby but any event where he needed to be quiet (like his sister’s nativity) he kicked off. It’s really stressful and I wouldn’t risk it at all.

It's on the 21st June.
