Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

Korn also did one of the most brilliant sets I've seen.

Calistano · 08/09/2023 21:25

Sad that I have never seen korn tbh, I discovered most bands in that era through the library, woooh yeeeah rock and roll haha. 60p to borrow an album for 2 weeks.

The free CDs on magazines and occasionally the chart show or TV also. I saw placebo on some channel 4 thing and was like yep, indeed 😁. I would have loved the Internet at 16, nobody I knew was into anything different.

TobiasForgesContactLense · 08/09/2023 21:26

Ooooo hello my people! As you may be able to tell from my username my favourite band is Ghost.

I have actually been into metal since 1990 though since listening to Iron Maiden to impress a boy in the year above. These days I seem to listen to a lot of Scandi bands - Solstafir from Iceland, Kverletak from Iceland and Grand Magus from Sweden (as well as Ghost being Swedish - well mostly).

Calistano · 08/09/2023 21:29

There's a channel on YouTube with interviews with women of rock it's really good. Sadly not uptated for a long time. Loved the Tanya Donnelly interview.

Diversion · 08/09/2023 21:29

Goth and Metal Industrial and Sleaze here, currently listening to Devil Driver in my pickup via CD because I like to actually own my music as opposed to connecting my phone .

I am a huge metal fan as well as a massive lover of hardcore/metalcore. I am also one who doesn't fit the metal look mould so always got a few raised eyebrows when i used to name the bands I liked. My faves in no particular order include all of Slash's solo stuff, Linkin Park (first album is one of the best albums on the planet IMO), System of a down, Slipknot, Trivium and Bullet for my Valentine. Anyone who likes quirkier metal I'd suggest Skindred, they are a Welsh reggae metal band and good live. My big thing is 00s rock/metal.

This is my all time favourite iron maiden song and this performance!! Unreal. Love when he says ‘YOU’ and the crowd take it!

That performance is unreal - there’s nothing like singing along to the guitar solos in that!

@Untilitsleeps1 love that song.
Love the picky guitar bit at the start

Hi there. Did you see Corey Taylor recently on Sunday brunch (I think it was) making a Pom Pom- perhaps the most surreal thing I’ve ever seen lol

Whaaaaat?? I wish I'd seen that!!

I pressed send too soon. I'm probably more of a hard rock fan with some metal thrown in. I love Five Finger Death Punch, Linkin Park, Metallica, Slipknot and Motorhead (just to name a few). Motorhead live was insane! Hope I can check in with my little metal compared to rock 🤘

LBOCS2 · 08/09/2023 21:19

They weren't great at Download last year either, just missed the mark a bit. Korn were fucking excellent though 😁

We're a bit of a crossover household. DH is a proper metaller, I mainly like late 90s cali punk, we have enough crossover to make it ok.

Mostly we just listen to Ghost. It's a reasonable compromise 😁

Satanic ABBA. My favourite band 😁

MichelleScarn · 08/09/2023 21:43

Oo joining! Love Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Dio!

If you like Swedish metal/power metal (and don’t mind a bit of pure cheese), may I recommend Sabaton and Majestica Grin

RumNotRun · 08/09/2023 21:43

Another fan here! I love it all from Rammstein, Metallica, Iron Maiden, to Sisters of Mercy, NIN, Marilyn Manson, and the grungy stuff like Nirvana and RHCP.

A load of friends and I went to the first UK Ozzfest in 98. It was awesome and such a great atmosphere. Ozzy killed it, of course! I also bought some very risqué clothing that I definitely wouldn't get my fat 40something arse into now. And to think I thought I was fat back then. Oh to be 17/8 again.

Yes to pps who said about blasting metal when you're feeling shit. Chop suey of course is always a good one. RATM Killing In The Name also has some great shouty bits 😉

Now moved on to listening to Alice in Chains unplugged MTV on YouTube. Is MTV even any good any more - I presume kerrang is gone

I’ve even got DP, the diehard nu-metal fan, into Ghost. He was enthusiastically singing Rats (complete with all the oooohaaaahs) while washing up earlier 🥲

Kerrang plays crap now compared to what it did when I was a teen. I tried watching it as a nostalgia trip and turned over. (Personal preference. Some may still like it) It was all very pop punk and swinging more to the pop side 😫

An excellent selection.

I also have a soft spot for the sillier bands; Gloryhammer, Alestorm & a fantastic band called Macabre who sing about serial killers (fantastic set at Bloodstock a few years back).

Calistano · 08/09/2023 21:47

Mt doesn't show music anymore sadly. I always remember the indie 500, was awesome used to just put it on.

I love type-o-negative, they were anther library band.

Ooooh!! I went to see Gloryhammer and Alestorm in Dec 2021!! They are FUN!

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/09/2023 21:49

I've had a love affair with Type O Negative since I was 14 too; I saw them live at Graspop when I was 17, it was incredible & I'm so glad I got to see them before Pete passed.

Alestorm are great!

I love all different kinds of metal but I have a huge soft spot for ‘silly’ metal, with bonus points for lashings of pure cheese.

Diggy diggy hole, anyone?
