I found another Sleep Token fan in the wild today 😂😂😂 had an electrician in this morning and Sleep Token was playing on the Alexa when I opened the door, he was very pleased about it 😂

Lol just listening to sleep token o my Alexa as we speak

Ah it’s always great to see a fellow fan, I’ve been known to start conversations with strangers over their shirts.

Booked to see Geoff Tate in Oct and Purple in Nov.

Oh , Seen Black Smoke Trigger a couple of times now as support - they’re quite good - remind me of Foo Fighters

Ooh, do you like Red Fang? They’ve got a bit of a heavier Foos vibe in some of their songs.

I can't believe I've missed this thread up til now, jumping in to say I'm a metaller too - more at the hair metal end, I discovered Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Def Leopard, the Almighty etc al when I was about 15 and have never looked back. Current all time favourite is Ghost, I am unbelievably excited to have tickets to the movie for 22 June. In that rock'n'roll haven, Hemel Hempsted 🤣.

TakeThePain · 24/05/2024 19:33

Ahh my Sleep Token T-shirts have never attracted a friend thus far!

I live in hope.

The only comments I’ve ever had on t-shirts are gatekeeping ones 😂 “name three songs” by a random drunk man when I was wearing a Nirvana t-shirt 😂😂😂

TakeThePain · 24/05/2024 20:59

Tbf I could just about name three Nirvana songs but I think they're all shit 😆

Do men ask other men this question, I wonder?

Thanks for the heads up on this band, have looked them up and they're good! I'm more rock/grunge than thrash metal👍

I’d bet my house that they don’t!

You’re welcome! They’re very fun to listen to (and the music video for Prehistoric Dog is excellent!)

Unfortunately I think there is a breed of male heavy metal fans that don’t like the girls being into the music- it is a boys thing. I think the majority are quite welcoming, but there’s definitely a certain group.

Case in point - Thursday night, first song started - BruceDickinson has a great female base player, v intelligent, well read, does a lot with animal rights. All there was from the guy behind me was “ the bass player’s fit”. (Granted she is extremely attractive - but she’s also so so much more, still the first and only thing this guy said about her -went on to praise all the other band members musicianship) he’s not the only one I’ve seen do this. It’s depressing

I love Ghost, love Tobias’s artistic vision. Have you seen them live?

No, are you? Anyone you’re looking forward to seeing in particular?

Looking forward to seeing Bowling for Soup and Sum 41, love heavier stuff but never got to see them live in their heyday, bfs are also playing an acoustic set in district x, honestly can't wait 😁

Was considering a Friday ticket but it's crazy expensive, and one of the bands I really wanted to see (again) was Bad Omens who just cancelled so no.

Are you going?

Yes, I first saw them at the Forum in Kentish Town in 2017, when they were touring Popestar and only just had enough good songs for a full set! I've seen them several times since then and they never fail to make me feel better. I love the long-running story arc and the ritual nature of the Ritual. PEIII was my favourite.

I’m just wondering how everyone got into metal in the first place?

My Mum is quite a fan of some metal so I had heard some growing up. She doesn't like the harder stuff but likes Disturbed, Slipknot and Metallica.
My DH is a metal head so from being with him I have heard a lot of it as well, and it's sort of grown on me over the years.
What about you?

It started with pop punk and emo when I first heard Fall Out Boy (Grin) on the music channel when I was about 12, then I started buying Kerrang! every week and discovered heavier and heavier stuff along the way. Met DP at 19 and discovered he was also into metal Smile

TakeThePain · 27/05/2024 15:08

I was pretty grungy as a teenager but then utterly forgot myself during the 'young kids' phase of life, and have now completely immersed myself in music again. I honestly listen to music every waking minute.

I recorded an Iron Maiden song off the top 40 count down at some point in the late 80s. My mother loved Queen and the Rolling Stones, so rock was always there.
At university I stumbled into a rock club and loved the heavier stuff since then. I try to keep vaguely up to date with Spotify, watching Scuzz and tips from you all!
