Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

One of the comments underneath was 'that snare makes me want to be a better man' which is hilarious but also fair.

🤣🤣🤣

Sleep Token!

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 14/02/2024 09:59

If anyone is looking for newish bands I'd suggest Sleep Token and Bad Omens. Saw Bad Omens last month and they were brilliant.

Lzzyisgod · 16/02/2024 16:04

Well that's my gig budget for the year blown on AC/DC tickets 🤣🤣🤣

So we saw dirty honey in Cardiff last week.
Absolutely awesome. What a bloody voice.

Well worth being knackered in work for

Is anyone still around? Went to see Bruce Dickinson last week in Wolverhampton- incredible - I’d actually say it was better than last time I saw Maiden - having a younger band surrounding him seems to have turned his energy back to 11!!!

Oh this thread is back, yay!

Sounds awesome, glad you enjoyed!

I've got quite a few gigs coming up this year, not all metal but am excited for all of them.

I went to a tiny prog rock gig in the worlds smallest pub basement recently and loved it, the smell of the beer and sweat took me back to being 17 😁

Ooh which gigs you off to?

moving house this year so not many gigs planned. Off to see Bruce again tomorrow- but my friend is ill so putting my big girl pants on and going solo. Inspired by @BMTHGlasgow solo trip to BMTH

Deep Purple booked for Nov - never seen them and it’ll be the last chance.

OP posts:
l0ml · 22/05/2024 23:12

Haha BMTHGlasgow was me!! I've NC'd about 20 times since then. It was fucking awesome!

What else have I got...Bikini Kill, Chelsea Wolfe, Amigo the Devil, Sleep Token (actually sick with excitement about that) and then Fontaines DC.

Maatandosiris · 22/05/2024 23:23

Ah brilliant - well thank you for the inspiration!!! Booked into a hotel near the venue, so going to have some good quality me time!!!! Will be different to last week whenDH and I had seats in Wolverhampton.

Did you keep yourself to yourself or chat up people?

I keep meaning to check Sleep
Token out. I’m old and need to get more up to speed with the new bands.

OP posts:
Maatandosiris · 22/05/2024 23:31

Chat to rather than chat up lol

OP posts:
l0ml · 23/05/2024 09:05

I end up chatting while waiting for the band to start, there are more people alone that you might otherwise notice if you were in a group. It's kinda nice!

Sleep Token are incredible but I don't think it's for everyone, it's not straightforward metal. Start with...

Take me back to Eden
The Sunmoning
Ascensionism
Gods
Vore

The last two are their heaviest. It covers loads of genres really.

Missedmytoe · 23/05/2024 09:51

Just catching up with this thread and trying to listen to some of the bands recommended.
Not sure Tool are quite heavy metal, but for those on here that like drumming, they have some really complex and interesting stuff going on.

We saw Bruce in Swansea on Tuesday, had a great night. The energy from that man never fails to amaze me!

Sleep Token have taken over my entire brain!

I’m in awe at how versatile they are! Take Me Back to Eden has metal, melody and rap all at once! I played it to DP and he was 😲 at how magical it is. It’s poetry set to metal and it just makes me really happy, I’ve become a total fangirl 😂

Fantastic, I’ll give them a listen. I like a wide variety of music so it might well resonate with me- I’ll feed back.

I said to my DH, I wouldn’t mind still having that level of energy at 65 - then realised I’d never had that level of energy😂😂😂😂

Ooooo!!! Very excited to find this thread! Wish I had time to read it all but very busy being a normal middle aged woman who nobody would think was a metaller 😅In fact, a little while ago, one of the staff in Aldi spotted my Metallica key ring and pretty much screamed that he could not BELIIIEEVE I was a Metallica fan, and we have been good friends ever since 😅

Metallica are my first love, since the day my brother's friend lent us the One single on vinyl. That was it, totally hooked. This was around the time of the black album, but we quickly got hold of their other albums and much preferred the older stuff, especially Master Of Puppets. Battery is still my fave. I've seen them live 8 times, but it could have been more as I've had tickets to see them recently-ish and have ended up not being able to go 😥I've also been looking at the possibility of going to see them in Copenhagen next month, but DS16 is in the middle of his GCSEs and I can't leave him. Nooooooo!!!! In fact, DS16 maaaaay just be named after Papa Het 😉

Also loved bands like Pantera, Machine Head, Sepultura, Megadeth (I met Dave Mustaine with my kids when they were little and he commented on how cute they were!!!) Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More, Korn, Deftones, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden. But now you're more likely to find Radio 3 and a bit of Choral Evensong on in my car 😂And the most recent concert I went to was Barbara Dickson 😅

But once a metalhead, always a metalhead 🤘

Ah brothers friends have a lot to answer for!!! My intro was Kill em all on one side of the cassette and RTL on the other - must have worn the tape out- crackles snd all (it was recorded off an LP ) rewinding fade to black!!

Tuesday was also my baby’s due date, watching Bruce chuck himself about on stage when I’m so pregnant I can barely get out of my seat was slightly exhausting! The staff were all panicking I’d have the kid there 😂

l0ml · 23/05/2024 10:31

@WetBandits I've been like that for about a year. I listen to them for about 4/5 hours every day. Absolutely obsessed.

Currently trying to choose my favourite lyric for my next tattoo but there are SO many.

It blows my mind, the talent.

I’m meant to be seeing Slipknot (standing!!) 2 days after my due date 😬 if I’m still pregnant I’m gonna have a really hard time deciding if I should go or not 😂

We got seated tickets for Slipknot! I think I’d have had to sneak in a camping chair if I went to a standing gig now. I can barely get up the stairs! This baby is the reason I’m missing the Rammstein tour this year too 😂😭
