Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

Oh yeah I know what you mean now. No I can’t read it either lol. Plus they all look the same. If you see the metallica/iron maiden/ad/dc logo from miles away you know what band it is

How is anybody supposed to be able to read that? I think I must be getting old. The band's I listen to have instantly recognisable logos.
I don't really do thrash/black/death metal, though.

EverythingLouderThanEverythingElse · 30/01/2024 19:42

I can remember in the 70s/80s my eldest brother and his friends painstakingly embroidering their denim jackets with all the various band logos.

Maatandosiris · 30/01/2024 20:37

i think one of the good things about metal is it’s broad creativity, it’s world creating. It’s not just a the music it’s about everything round it too

I would agree with that but I also think that potential fans have to be able to connect with the world and culture that bands are creating.
I remember well seeing bands like Maiden, Helloween, Kiss, Van Halen, AC/DC and the like and it being really accessible. Every band was instantly recognisable and relatable. Every guitarist was unique (especially Yngwie) and had their signature moves. I think I'm just getting a bit too old, tbh. My DD reckons I'm stuck in a rut and she might be right!

Maatandosiris · 31/01/2024 19:39

I suppose back when these bands were starting, there was a hunger and originality, record companies were more willing to take a chance, tik tok doesn’t have the A&R man filter which is good and bad.

Many of these artists had a real intelligence about them,

Dirty honey are around at the moment if you get a chance to see them. They're cracking and the singer has got it Wink

pardonmytits · 10/02/2024 13:35

Got Sleep Token tickets for London - can’t wait!

Comefromaway · 10/02/2024 13:52

Dd has asked me to go see a band called Blind Channel with her. I’m going to be very out of my comfort zone.

Not heard of these but just had I listen and I really like - thanks, quite 80s rock , the singers voice reminds me of 80s Axl but far less nasal.

unfortunately away atm otherwise would have checked them out, but one for the future sounds like they would be a blast live.

Going to Glasgow. Absolutely cannot wait. There's just something about this band! I listen to them probably a couple of hours every day, I'm so obsessed just now.

pardonmytits · 12/02/2024 10:10

Same. II’s drumming just blows my mind. I find him so captivating and inspiring (I’m learning to play) to watch.

WhenWereYouUnderMe · 12/02/2024 11:56

You're learning to play? Me too!

pardonmytits · 12/02/2024 12:44

Awesome! Yes, I love it. How long have you been playing for? Have you watched II’s Drumeo offering?

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 12/02/2024 13:28

Yes I absolutely love it too! Only been going for maybe 8 months. Spent a couple of hours yesterday absolutely melting my kit so that was fun 😁

pardonmytits · 12/02/2024 17:43

Nice! Are you having lessons?

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 12/02/2024 17:50

Yeah - you?

pardonmytits · 12/02/2024 21:22

Yes, only fortnightly though

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 12/02/2024 22:19

Mine are weekly but also have a good friend who is an excellent drummer who gives me homework

(I have name changed it's still me 🙂)

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 13/02/2024 11:44

@pardonmytits just spent quite a lot of time when I was meant to be working watching the Drumeo offering. Just unbelievable.

pardonmytits · 13/02/2024 14:15

@DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe Glorious isn’t it? 😁

DoYouWantToStartACultWithMe · 13/02/2024 14:36

One of the comments underneath was 'that snare makes me want to be a better man' which is hilarious but also fair.

I play brass but that made me laugh.
