Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

I just enjoyed my commute blasting Gojira at full - and I mean full - volume.

My mate text me and said I waved as I drove past you but you were just drumming on the wheel 😁

My 6 yo is devastated there's an age restriction for bands, he'd love to see Maiden and have been closely following all the tributes like High on Maiden and Maiden Scotland but always seems to be 16.
Bought 'new' vinyl of Dio and Paul D'Anno today 😀

There were defo kids (quite a lot) this year at the Maiden gig in Birmingham so look out next time they tour.

what about Donnington? Wish my DS would get into Metal - we just have Dance monkey!!

I took my nieces 6&7 to see Epica and Apocalyptica in Feb;we had meet and greet tickets and were at the front. They had a fab time ,the six year old went hard for Epica and had a mosh battle with Apocalyptica.

Imreallytiredandanxioustoday · 09/10/2023 17:54

I'm off to see Rival Sons this month in Bristol.
Sell out gig so it's going to be a sweat box there.
I've nothing else this year which is really unusual. Winter is usually busy for gigs.

Comefromaway · 16/10/2023 13:49

I've never really been into metal, though I do love some heavy rock style bands but my daughter listens to a lot. She likes female fronted symphonic metal bands such as Nightwish.

One band I have discovered however via instagram is one called Tulip.

Think I deserve points for going to parents consultation afternoon today not realising I had a Borknagar t-shirt on under my jumpsuit - style icon, obviously Grin

Anyone else who could possibly form the centre of a Mumsnet - Borknagar - jumpsuit Venn diagram, let themselves be known!

Earlier upthread I mentioned Voyager and how they were due to tour the UK - very sadly their vocalist Danny has been diagnosed with cancer and they have had to postpone. All the best to him.

Can I please resurrect this thread for advice?

I want to go to a gig but have nobody to go with as nobody I know really shares my taste in music.

But I'm worried I'll feel like a twat and a loser. There's no standing tickets so I can't blend in, I'll be obviously sitting there alone.

I don't knoooooow.

What do I do?

turkeyboots · 27/10/2023 12:31

Snap. If by chance you want to see Bring me the Horizon in Dublin, I'll be your friend!

BringMeTheTickets · 27/10/2023 12:33

Damnit. It's Glasgow! Oh I so would have liked to be adopted as your friend!

What gig is it?

WeighDownOnMe · 27/10/2023 23:43

Bring Me the Horizon in Glasgow. I really want to go, wondering if I just slink in at the last minute it'll be less obvious if I'm alone.

It's so embarrassing not to have anyone to go with. But I don't know anyone who'd want to come. Definitely cannot convince my teenager to come with, she thinks I'm an embarrassing emo 😆

Don’t slink in - it’s not embarrassing to have friends that are into different music.

go in, get a beer, sit in a great seat you can pick more easily being in your own. Talk to those around you confident about being a strong independent woman who doesn’t need the validation of others to do what she wants to enjoy life!!!

I've seen posters for gigs recently (wish I could remember who it was now, some young band but looked rock/ metal) that promoted contact details at the bottom for anyone wanting to go on their own to meet up in a group beforehand. Seemed a nice idea, must be a thing now to make gigs more accessible.

Maybe something you could ask about on a fan Facebook page or something?

I used to go to gigs on my own all the time and never gave a hoot, but would feel more self-conscious about it now than in my 20s, don't know why.

You won't look like a twat. Lots of people go to gigs alone. No one cares or bothers to notice really

pardonmytits · 02/11/2023 18:38

Bringmethetickets I’m in the same sort of boat and totally would have gone with you if I were up that way. I’m probably going to a couple of gigs by myself in January but it’s either that or miss them, and I’m not willing to miss them!

Maatandosiris · 03/11/2023 17:09

It does make me wonder should we start a gig pal thing. Eg if someone fancies a tour maybe post in here and see if anyone else fancies it- might need to travel though😀

Ooh yeah 🙂

I could do with gig buddies clearly (I'm BringMeTheTickets but have name changed...)

Carsarelife · 03/11/2023 19:44

Saw Iron Maiden at O2 this year. Thinking about going to USA to see them next year. Either NY or Vegas. Is this crazy?

Fourpaw · 03/11/2023 20:08

Brilliant thread

Does anyone else like Parkway Drive? I am very into them at the moment. Darker Still & Ire on repeat.

Also Halestorm, Florence Black, Alter Bridge, Bullet for my Valentine, AC/DC, Dio, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown.

And lots already mentioned in this thread!

Vettrianofan · 03/11/2023 20:20

Saw Mortiis years ago in Edinburgh. Also seen Nightwish and Depeche Mode. Love listening to lots of different bands. Eldest DS(16) listens to black metal mostly.

Vettrianofan · 03/11/2023 20:21

The youngest DC listen to Gloryhammer. They can't get enough of it😂

Not at all - saw them in July. Absolutely incredible. I had similar thoughts.

gutted Bruce seems to only be releasing festival dates so far - really hope he does something else

@Maatandosiris there's plenty of tickets I just checked. Also more dates being released. I could book tickets now and flights later on. Yes I was suprised Bruce was playing festivals. I know he played Hyde park same night as IM were at O2 and Blur played same night too I believe
