Having come across some v misogynistic attitudes across social media on heavy metal boards I thought I would start a thread were is women fans of all things hard and heavy could hang out, feel free to say hi.

Also used to wander up the road to the Bush if the Coach was too busy. I am so nostalgic now!!

Rockandrollfangirl · 11/09/2023 11:02

Mikey Howells. Jay Jonah?
I know a couple of Sharon's from there. Sha with the really curly hair. Sharon Davies and Richards.

How I love mumsnet! Thank you for starting this thread @Maatandosiris I've been reminded of some old favourites and found some new ones.
I've just been greeted by my husband coming into the kitchen with 'what the FUCK are you listening to?!'

Volbeat, as it happens.

I love Evelyn - particularly live versions with LG Petrov doing the growls (sorry Barney!)

spiderlight · 11/09/2023 11:55

@Rockandrollfangirl - yes, that's them! Sharon Davies with the long curly hair - I shared a house with her for a bit but we've lost touch now. She went out with Jay for a bit (no idea what his surname was), and then Andy the bodybuilder, although I think he mostly hung out at the Bush. There was a lad called Mouse as well - absolutely no idea what his real name was! Are you on the Coach House Codgers group on FB?

Rockandrollfangirl · 11/09/2023 12:01

I remember Mouse. Not in that one. I'll

It's not very active (I think they organised a reunion a while back) but you might see a few old faces on there.

Rockandrollfangirl · 11/09/2023 13:19

There is another group I'm in.
It's called the original coach house Wind St or something similar

Maatandosiris · 11/09/2023 22:57

Everyone’s comments have got me listening to records I’ve not heard in a while. Played the whole of Ride the Lightning today. Just unbelievable , how were they late teens very early 20s writing that??

Well, thanks to this thread, @Rockandrollfangirl and I have just worked out that as well as hanging out at the same pub and going to loads of the same gigs, we were at primary school together!! 😅

Not in the same city any more, sadly, but maybe one day! What are the odds, though? Clearly good things come from listening to King Kraken!

Ah that’s a shame. Hopefully you’ll keep in touch. HM is a real community.

This is what my poor mum didn't get - I had a pretty miserable time at school with the 'nice' kids she approved of, who were absolute arseholes to me because I was quiet and shy and bookish and a bit different (proably autistic, in retrospect), but the big hairy metallers she was scared stiff of were so much more accepting and lovely and really looked out for each other. One of my abiding memories is of getting separated from my friends at the very front of a gig and getting panicky, madly looking for a way out of the crush, and this enormous biker came and stood behind me, braced an arm either side of me on the barrier to create a space for me and said 'Is this all right?', and when I said yes, he stood there for the entire show - no contact, nothing pervy, just keeping the crush off me - and as soon as my friends found me at the end he melted away. I was so incredibly grateful.

This is so true. You won't find a friendlier bunch than rockers. It's one big community.
Was at Steelhouse a few weeks ago and so many people just smile and say hello as you walk past.

KylieKangaroo · 12/09/2023 21:51

Anyone that likes Layne Staleys voice should check out Mad Season I think he only did one album with them but the vocals are beautiful!

LetMeEnfoldYou · 12/09/2023 23:18

Giving them a listen now @KylieKangaroo 👍🏻

Brewdug · 12/09/2023 23:40

Went to a biker/ rock festival once, drove straight into the Hell's Angel's campsite in my Micra and shat myself. Got stuck on a pretty steep incline trying to three-point-turn myself out. Ridiculous.

A few bikers ran up and lifted the car out and back on the dirt track with me still inside. Cheers, fellas Grin

pardonmytits · 13/09/2023 10:49

Love Mad Season. The song Wake Up is haunting. He just couldn’t.

Maatandosiris · 13/09/2023 12:06

It’s such a beautiful song and so poignant

Stunning voice

Maatandosiris · 21/09/2023 18:05

Ooh ooh - have you seen Bruce Dickinson has finally released some details of his new solo album - only near a 20 year wait. Only SA dates so far - he better come to the UK.

This thread is dying already.
Let's revive it a bit.
Going to see some covers locally this month
Metallica GnR and Black Sabbath all on the same night.

Free tickets courtesy of my DB

MichelleScarn · 04/10/2023 17:36

My 6 yo is devastated there's an age restriction for bands, he'd love to see Maiden and have been closely following all the tributes like High on Maiden and Maiden Scotland but always seems to be 16.
Bought 'new' vinyl of Dio and Paul D'Anno today 😀

pardonmytits · 04/10/2023 17:45

I’ve just booked tickets to Rock the Gardens in Blackpool next year. Birthday weekend, so would be rude not to. Now I just need to find someone to go with 😂
