Hello, Has anyone heard back on their NCO 2023 Auditions yet? I think they said sometime in October but I am being asked daily whether there is any news yet… Thank you!

No we haven’t heard yet. I just checked email and it said late October

CelloMumFlums · 11/10/2022 15:07

Thank you!

Hi. I’m also being asked now 😂 It seems such a long time since videos were submitted. Hopefully not too much longer to wait.

CelloMumFlums · 13/10/2022 10:33

Yes, it seems forever ago! Fingers crossed for good news for everyone soon 🎶

Placemarking! Just projects but still be nice to know.

chocolateisnecessary · 14/10/2022 16:36

Placemarking too! Also projects.

chamber123 · 14/10/2022 16:52

Big Con! Although I have not received any update yet. I wonder is project London?

violinmama · 14/10/2022 20:48

Hoping for Under 12s 🤞

Celticstorms22 · 16/10/2022 17:23

What does ‘place marking’ mean please? Have you received updates? We’ve heard nothing yet. Many thanks.

thirdfiddle · 16/10/2022 20:49

Hi Celtic - like 'watching' the thread, but letting people know I'm here. No not heard anything here yet either. I hate waiting for things - thankfully DD has mostly forgotten about it.

Chamber, Projects had four different locations last year, two in London, Bolton, Birmingham if I am remembering right. Plus lots of online stuff.

Celticstorms22 · 17/10/2022 05:38

Ahh, don’t I feel silly - thought placemaking might have been them placing the kids in the orchestra!

thirdfiddle · 17/10/2022 10:47

Ha ha, easily done. Perhaps we should be feeling silly for being so immersed in forum culture we speak jargon.

Mickey33 · 17/10/2022 15:03

Results have come in this afternoon for under 12’s not sure for projects I think they maybe later on.
DD has got in for under 12’s violin yay now just hoping we get a bit of help with the bursary! My DS auditioned for projects haven’t got results yet fingers crossed

Mickey33 · 17/10/2022 15:16

Good luck everyone who are waiting results

minisnowballs · 17/10/2022 15:52

DD2 has a place in Mains for bassoon. I'm terrifically proud of her, but OUCH the cost - especially since she has NYO Inspire for free. Big decisions.

violinmama · 17/10/2022 16:19

DD has a place in U12s for violin. Hoping too for a bursary as it’s getting eye-wateringly expensive with JRNCM fees & ProCorda - difficult decisions ahead…
Projects results also through for a friend’s DD (violin).

thirdfiddle · 17/10/2022 16:56

Yes for DD and projects too, well done everyone!

SurreyFree · 17/10/2022 17:18

DD has been offered a place for trumpet! It was our first time auditioning for NCO so we were very nervous. We are so proud 🥲 I wonder if you need to audition every year to participate?

Lightsoutlondon · 17/10/2022 22:14

We got projects email today, one very happy DS :-)

Lightsoutlondon · 17/10/2022 22:15

Can I ask those doing projects, roughly what standard are your DC playing at? We are quite surprised to have got a place as thought it might be a stretch.

thirdfiddle · 17/10/2022 23:34

Lightsout, I think it really depends on instrument. Last year DD was near the back of 2nd violins auditioning with G5 pieces, but had only just learned the notes so they weren't particularly polished. I think they prefer easier but polished but that's what we had at the time. It's always worth having a go, it's quality over difficulty.

chocolateisnecessary · 18/10/2022 06:52

Also got into projects - hurrah! He auditioned on grade 3 but was comfortably playing grade 4. He's on the harp and the whole technique thing really matters for sound so took the advice and auditioned a bit lower than he could play. Should be a fab year for them all!

Lightsoutlondon · 18/10/2022 07:00

Ok that's interesting to know. DS auditioned at gd3 pieces which at the time was a stretch, but progress for him has been rapid and he could well be closer to gd5 by the time projects take place.

SurreyFree · 18/10/2022 07:31

DD was 8 at time of recording. Played 1 Gr3 and 1 Gr4 piece as well.

minisnowballs · 18/10/2022 08:02

Well done to them alll! Dd auditioned on grade 5 pieces last year and got projects. This year was on grade 6 pieces- which is the very lowest bound of the grade levels for main orchestra on bassoon- which is why I was surprised. But it is her second study and apparently her tone is amazing so maybe that is what they heard.

sadly it clashes with two things she loves more so I’ll never actually get to see her in that red shirt….
