In your opinion of courseWink

We've had the weirdest (I'm a serious as cancer springs to mind) and the best first lines so what do you think is the best lyric/line/s ever?
Can be one you love for the cheese factor, something meaningful for you or something you think is just brilliant song writing.

Ill start with

She's a myth that I have to believe in. All I need to make it real is one more reason. I don't know what to do.
Slipknott-Vermillion pt 2.

Rejoining this thread from first time round:

"though he left without a single word, it's better in the end, there are no words to say goodbye, I hope you'll meet again"

"I loved you then as I love you still, I put you on a pedestal, you put me on the pill" A new england by Billy Bragg but sung by the late great Kirsty Mccoll

Also

"some boys with warm beds and cold, cold hearts can make you feel nothing at all
they won't remember and they'll never mind if you're counting the cracks in the wall
they're quick and they're greedy, they never feel guilty, they don't know the meaning of hurt
the boots just go back on the socks that have stayed on, the next time they see you they'll treat you like dirt"

Don't come the cowboy with me Sonny Jim also by Kirsty Mccoll

Wham bam, my cat Splash

You took my dreams from me/
When I first met you/

I took them with me babe/
I put them with my own/
Can't make it all alone/
I've built my dreams around you

Fairytale of New York - The Pogues

Come sail your ships around me/
And burn your bridges down/
We make a little history, baby/
Every time you come around

The Ship Song - Nick Cave

I saw two shooting stars last night/
I wished on them, but they were only satellites/
It's wrong to wish on space hardware/
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

A New England - Kirsty MacColl / Billy Bragg

For me you could pick just about anything from Bob Dylan or Morrissey

'I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour, but Heaven knows I'm miserable now' - The Smiths

'I want to be the girl with the most cake' - Hole

DP's favourite is, 'Mention The Lord Of the Rings just once more, and I'll more than likely kill you' - I think it's Half Man Half Biscuit.

I was looking for a job and then I found a job and heaven knows I'm miserable now.. in my life why do I give valuable time to people who don't care if I live or die ...

Half Man Half Biscuit

Love so many of these but my favourite is "You've got the universe reclining in your hair" from Jeepster:

I want you all and ev'rything just to be mine
'Cos you're my baby, 'cos you're my love
Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love

You slide so good with bones so fair
You've got the universe reclining in your hair
'Cos you're my baby, yes you're my love
Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love

Just like a car you're pleasing to be hold
I'll call you Jaguar if I may be so bold
'Cos you're my baby, 'cos you're my love
Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love - oh

The wild winds blow upon your frozen cheeks
The way you flip your hip it always makes me weak
'Cos you're my baby, 'cos you're my love
Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love - oh

Your motivation is so sweet
Your vibrations are all burning up my feet
'Cos you're my baby, mmh, 'cos you're my love
Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love
I said girl I'm just a vampire for your love
I'm gonna suck you

Oh-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o wow
A-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a ow, wow yeah, vampire!

'I use antlers in all of my decorating' - Gaston's Song, Beauty and the Beast Grin

BelleDameSansMerci · 14/04/2012 19:04

I get that bloody song stuck in my head... Especially the bit about "And I'm roughly the size of a baaaaarge."

I call my ex Gaston because "every last inch of him's covered in hair" plus he thinks he's God's gift, etc. Grin

I like Floyd... one I particularly like (because it's hard to tell WTF he's saying) is from Another Brick in the Wall Part II I think:

But in town it was well known when they got home at night, their fat and psychopathic wives would thrash them within inches of their lives.

But my ultimate is from Welcome to the Machine:

Welcome my son; welcome to the machine... What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream.
