This is the feedback thread for the 60 MNers who have been testing Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings paint. Testers were sent a voucher for a 2.5L tin of Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings and were asked to paint a room in their house.

If so, why? Good range of colours and reaaonably priced

I didn’t note the smell on my review but I thought at the time that it smelled quite pleasant - sweet and not overpowering at all.

We have recently renovated our house entirely, with only a couple of rooms untouched. We needed the paint to complete the job and to make the final room look good. Many main rooms were done by the builders but we have taken the last few months to complete the final few.

We chose a pale grey from the colours available and really liked the option to view it under different lights. The shop staff were lovely.

The family bathroom is untouched since we bought the place. It had been done up by the previous owners, so is in good nick, but the paint is poorly applied, very peeling and flaky and, we assume, the wrong sort of paint was used. We got advice on using a sealant and then used the paint on top.

Really excellent quality. Great colour and depth and very easy to apply.

Yes. Price, quality and colour choices.m

We chose a colour from the sample cards to decorate our teenage son’s bedroom. We were already planning to paint his room and we chose a neutral colour to compliment his feature wall. We found it went on nice and even and as we were painting over white it covered lovely. We did need a second coat. No smell of cat wee! We would consider using valspar again, although it is expensive for the size of the tin compared to other brands.
Overall would give it 9 1/2 out of 10, so definitely impressed with it

1: originally I was going to choose the coconut ice from the test cards - I really liked the way you could use the light box to see how different light levels altered the colour. However we then found a lovely new blind so I did colour matching instead. Was really happy with the colour.

2: I was painting my kitchen and wanted something durable and wipeable.

3: very happy seems good quality went on well with a good consistency- I only needed one coat as the original wall was white.

4: Yes I would definite buy again as long as the price was competitive.

Yes, loved the wide rage of colour plus colour matching service, and quick and easy to apply.

I looked through the magazine in B&Q and looked at the colour swatches. I had an idea of what I wanted.

Absolutely brilliant paint! Goes on well easy coverage. Doesn’t smell. 10/10

Yes 100% and I’ve been and bought more to do my lounge. I’d also like to refresh the kitchen. Perfect paint and won’t hesitate to use the brand again.

I let my sons choose the colour 😬

I did tell them that it couldn’t be orange and if they fought then I would choose the colour myself.

They loved looking at all the chips and comparing them under the different lights.

They love the colour of their room.

The service was good. The lady who helped us was very efficient and professional.

My sons’ room as it needed a refresh, last painted six years ago!

Very good quality. It went on easily and covers well. From the last time I painted the smell has certainly improved! None of us found the smell overwhelming. The last time I painted I needed a mask or I felt sick but this time was fine, the smell was mild.

Yes, definitely. There are a wide range of colours, it goes on well, it looks good, and wears well.

I arrived at B&Q and picked out one of the available colours on the chip rack. I knew I wanted a blue shade to paint a feature wall a denim blue shade.

My son's bedroom- it was all white and we wanted a blue wall to be a large feature wall for interest.

Yes, it was good quality similar to Dulux. Much better than cheap store brand paints I've tried before. No real smell.

Yes I won’t hesitate to use the brand again as it went on nicely and gave good coverage.

How did you find choosing your colour?

I wanted to do my daughters room in a lilac colour so my partner went to the store and got every lilac colour in the chip rack and brought them home for me to look at and hold up in her room in the right lightening. All of the colours were gorgeous, exactly what we wanted so in the end we got our 9 year old daughter to pick so it felt more like her decision for her room.

Which room did you decorate and why?
We chose our daughters room as it really needed painting, looked very drab and dull, and wanted our daughters room to look more "older" for her and more cosy. It was also a good excuse to get rid of a lot of her baby/unwanted toys and have a bit of a much needed clear out.

How was your overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings Paint? Were you pleased with how the paint applied on the wall? Did you find that the paint was good quality?
I found that the paint was really good quality, it went on smooth, covered well, didn't drip and wasn't runny, the colour matched exactly what we wanted, it spread well and it didn't have a overpowering smell and dried really quick. I was surprised how quick it did dry, almost instantly.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why?
We had to buy another pot as we ran out when we had a quarter of the room to do which was annoying and my partner said costly as the small 1L pot cost £16 and that was the cheapest he could get. There wasn't enough for a second coat but luckily the colour was so intense it wasn't needed as I don't think my partner would of bought another pot because of the cost.
I would definitely buy again and will do soon as I want to paint my bedroom now. I love the variety of colours, that you can colour match if they don't have the colour you want, the quality of the paint, the lack of smell, and I love the fact that the walls can now be wiped down if they happen to get marks, hand prints etc
Would definitely recommend to family and friends too, I just wish it was a little bit more affordable.

I had a browse online to get an idea of what colours were available - I wanted something lightish, peaceful and calming- but that wasn't going to send me off to sleep - and not too "statementy". I then went in store and to be honest was struggling to choose between a few colours - I think in future I'd try to get samples - but I would have been happy with several of them. I ended up picking Green Reflection, and was really happy with the chosen colour.

2. Which room did you decorate and why?

My very small spare room which has been my office for the last 18 months! I really wanted to do my hallway, but was slightly anxious about how easy it would be to paint and the smell, having read things in the past about this paint (see later for comments!) and figured at the end of the day I could shut the office door with the windows open if it was terrible, but couldn't escape the hall. I've started with one wall - my background wall for Zoom - but will finish and do the rest now I've a better idea about coverage etc - I didn't want to run out half way through.

3. How was your overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings Paint? Were you pleased with how the paint applied on the wall? Did you find that the paint was good quality?

I was very impressed with this paint. It went on very well (walls plastered ~6 years ago and had been painted pure brilliant white at the time - couldn't say what it'd be like on "rougher" walls or darker colours. Coverage was good, and colour is lovely. The thing I was most anxious about was the smell - had read reports in the past about it smelling awful even when dry, and am delighted to say it doesn't smell of cat pee!!!

4. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700™ Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why?

Definitely. I'm going to buy more for my hall to freshen it up. I'll chose this over other paints purely because I'm clumsy, spill cups of tea all the time and end up having to wipe walls more than a grown up should.. I really like the "wipeability" of this paint. (I've tried wiping a small section of office wall just to see if colour transferred, it didn't).

I chose a colour from the chip rack as there were plenty to choose from! I was very pleased with the colour.

My experience was very good. The coverage was great, covered straight away without having to redo like other brands. Paint is excellent quality.

Yes, definitely! I thought it was pricy previously, but it’s actually really good value.

I have chosen from 2000 colours on the chip rack and I am very satisfied with the colour of paint.

We decorated our bedroom. We have moved house 2 months ago and redecorate every room in it. I have already bought colours for the other rooms and needed this shade for our bedroom.

We found some long things in our paint that was quite sticky and it looked like a very long and thick hair covered in paint. Also wherever we put some filling on the wall (which we did a week earlier) this paint when applied took some of it off, so that was a bit annoying.

I am not sure if we are going to choose it again. First of all it is quite expensive and second of all not easy to apply and still need to paint the wall twice to get the results I wanted.

I was put off this by many people saying that it had an odour of cat wee?

Is this still the case?

I used a main brand trade paint in the end, which went on brilliantly.
Ironcially colour matching one of the Velspar colours

We definately had the cat wee problem 3 years ago when we painted a large room. For months we thought a tom cat must be squirting on an air brick at the side of the house, until I read about the Valspar wee problem.

On the plus side, it's excellent quality paint and the colour matching service is great

I chose a F&B colour called Calamine. Very happy with the colour, I don't know how they do it! Service was excellent. So easy, I just handed over the tester pot.

The paint went on beautifully, the wall seemed to soak it up. The quality seems good. It's an adult bedroom so not a high traffic area but one wall was black and the coverage over that dark wall was as good as the light ones. It dried quickly and I was able to finish the room in one day and sleep in it that night.

Definitely, especially now I know how easy it is to mix the colour you want and the paint is such good quality

I chose from the chip rack. I was impressed with the layout with the colours grouped together and the wide range to choose from. Had to wait 5 mins in a (socially distanced) queue but was happy to wait and enjoyed watching the process and was happy with the final colour.

I decorated my living room. It's recently been fully redecorated with new wallpaper feature wall and flooring etc but my dh never got round to repainting the walls (even though he painted the ceiling ). Our dining table is located at the far end of the living room so the wall behind where my kids sit gets mucky with food or pens etc so was badly needing repainted with a decent paint that allows for scrubbing away marks.

Really happy with how well this paint turned out. Very easy to use, the paint went on well with both rollers and brushes and only required one coat. The paint felt like a good quality paint.

I would definitely use this paint again as long as it's at an appropriate price point. The paint was very easy to use and only required one coat, making redecorating a quick and (fairly) easy job.
We've been away on holiday since just after redecorating so my kids haven't had a chance yet to make marks on the wall to test the scrubbability but I'm optimistic especially since it's stain resistant.

I chose from the chip rack (I looked online first) I really love the colour, it's exactly the same as the chip too. The lady serving us was great, really helpful.

We painted the bathroom as it was in desperate need of being done. We did check with the lady in B&Q that the paint was suitable for bathrooms.

It went on okay but not great. It took 2 coats to get a good coverage and probably could have done with 3. The paint seemed ok quality, time will tell how well it lasts. Overall we are pleased with the results.

Probably, but I did notice that it's quite expensive, so it will really depend on how well it lasts and stays looking nice.

We ordered paint chips from the chart to look at and chose from those. There were so many great colours to choose from.

My son’s bedroom - it really needed re-doing as he’s now too old for a baby’s room.

The paint was easy to use and apply and it covered well. It also looked just like the chip, which we liked.

Definitely - great colours and good coverage when painting.

Only an after photo - I forgot the before - this was sea anemone.

1. I colour matched a Farrow and Ball colour, which was easy because it was already programmed into the database - a common request I imagine. Very pleased with the match and the service in B&Q.

1. We painted the dining room, which is a new extension. We had bare plaster and needed some paint on the walls.

1. The paint was thick but nice to paint with and I'm pleased with the finish.

1. Yes I think I'd consider buying this in future but will have to see how it holds up over time. I'm comparing it to Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion, which wipes clean beautifully.

I too forgot to take a before but they were just bare plaster walls.

Yes, I like the huge range of colours and the colour matching is a great feature.

I chose from the colours on the chip rack, I was happy with the colour and the service at B&Q. Interesting to see how they mix it.

Hallway, because it had received a lot of wear and tear since we last decorated it three years ago.

I found it was good quality and easy to apply. I hope it will cope with the general wear and tear of family life better than the previous paint that was used.

Yes, because it looks good and I like the range of colours and the colour matching, It also seems reasonable value for money.

I'm currently renovating a very dated house, the room that has been neglected the most is our bedroom. I choose a calm serene colour, a soft white from the samples in store. Lovely colour choice.

Our bedroom, needed painting after stripping off the woodchip wallpaper to make it more welcoming and calming.

The paint is excellent quality, really good coverage. Very pleased with the end result.

Yes definitely, I hadn't previously considered this brand due to the negative reviews about the smells and this had stuck in my mind. Pleased to find it had hardly any odour at all!
