This is the feedback thread for the 120 Mumsnet users with at least one child aged 3 months and 5 years who have been testing Milton’s new antibacterial hand sanitiser. Testers were asked to try the hand sanitiser with their whole family as and when needed over the course of two weeks. The sanitiser is suitable for the whole family from 3 months old and is made from 100% plant based, natural ingredients, is alcohol-free and dermatologically tested.

Here’s what Milton has to say: “We care for babies' fragile skin as well as protecting little ones and their family from germs. This is why we have developed the first Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser that is fully suitable for little ones skin from 3 months old. Our alcohol free foam kills 99.9% of germs in a matter of seconds and our plant based formula is better for the environment, you and your baby. Ideal for on the go use, our rinse-free formula is perfect for hand hygiene with no need for water or soap.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the questions below:

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?
  2. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?
  3. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
  4. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?

I was happy with the product overall. Its a good size to slip in my handbag, and I like that it's safe to use on very young children.

  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?

Being plant based was a bonus, and having no alcohol means that it is better for my already dry hands, but I did no like the smell it left on my hands. I'd have been happier with a synthetic smell than the one this left.

  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?

Yes - as previously mentioned it's a good size for my handbag or nappy bag. It also got used a lot at home because 18mo DS is currently rather keen on the litter tray.

  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

I prefer it to gel. It seems to drip less and DS appeared to enjoy the texture!

  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?

Overall I like it, but the smell is off-putting.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?
I wasn’t keen, it had a weird feel on my skin and I assume it doesn’t kill covid as it doesn’t contain alcohol.
  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?
I liked the size of the bottle and the fact it was foam but didn’t like the lack of fragrance and texture of it - I’d rather use a wet wipe to be honest
  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
Yes
  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?
It was fine, less sticky than a gel
  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?
Probably not, seeing as it doesn’t contain alcohol thus presumably offers no protection against covid, I’d favour soap and water or a wet wipe when out and about

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?
Good product, happy to use it on my child, good size, dissappointed it still stung my husbands sensitive eczema hands.
  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?
That it was less harsh and was a foam.
  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
I only used it out and about, but very handy size.
  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?
That was one of its best features, gel tends to slide off your hands or you end up using too much.
  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?
Yes I think so.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?

We really liked this product, it was very kind to our eczema prone skin.

  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?

I liked that it had no fragrance, some alcohol ones leave an awful smell. I liked that it was skin kind and I was able to use it for my 1 year old without worrying she was breathing in alcohol fumes.

  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?

It was very easy to use both at home and while out. My children found the foam a novelty. It was small enough to pop in the nappy bag or handbag while out.

  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

We really liked the foam, it pumped out just the right amount to feel like you were giving your hands a good clean. It was also less sticky and didn’t run everywhere like the gel ones.

  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?

Yes I’d definitely recommend to other parents.

  3. Yes it was easy to use at home and out.

  5. Undecided if I will recommend as the smell is quite off putting.

Yes. We kept it in the kitchen to begin with but then I swapped it with the one in my bag as it was so much better for the kids.
  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?
The best part. We waste so much gel when it slides off little hands before they rub it in!

. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?
I thought it was sticky when you first put it on and not keen on the smell. Fiddly to use when out and about. Not my favourite sanitizer

  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?
I liked the plant based idea and no alcohol but did find it had a funny smell.
  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
Easy to use at home but found the lid kept coming off in my bag. Not as easy as flip top gels.

I liked that idea as it didn't dribble like gels do.
  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?
Maybe for at home but not for whilst out and about. Liked the plant based no alcohol idea etc for children and not drying out hands but found it tricky to use when out and about.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?
This was an excellent product, really quick and easy to apply and spread out nicely and evenly on my child´s hands with a visible foam that allows you to check that all areas have been covered properly.
  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?

Yes, I like the fact that there are no harmful chemicals and I feel peace of mind applying it to my one year old´s hand, especially after recent reports of potential harm to children caused by repeated alcohol based products. We are having to use it much more now that she is mobile and outdoors.

  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
Yes, the sanitizer is very easy to pump and apply, not requiring any fiddly caps or shaking and the bottle is easy to clean also.
  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

A foam based product is much more suitable for young children as you can see the foam and where it has been applied. It is also quicker and easier to apply than gel. I was very impressed.

  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?

Yes, absolutely, I will be purchasing it and recommending it as an excellent product.

I thought was great, from a trusted name and liked the look of it.

I liked that it was alcohol free so good for sensitive kids hands and babies.

Yes definitely easy application and foam meant no over usage or leakage.

I prefer the foam, dont get a horrible residue on hands and no overuse where it spills everywhere.

Yes I would but unsure without any alcohol content that it would work against the coronavirus.
