This is the feedback thread for the 120 Mumsnet users with at least one child aged 3 months and 5 years who have been testing Milton’s new antibacterial hand sanitiser. Testers were asked to try the hand sanitiser with their whole family as and when needed over the course of two weeks. The sanitiser is suitable for the whole family from 3 months old and is made from 100% plant based, natural ingredients, is alcohol-free and dermatologically tested.

Here’s what Milton has to say: “We care for babies' fragile skin as well as protecting little ones and their family from germs. This is why we have developed the first Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser that is fully suitable for little ones skin from 3 months old. Our alcohol free foam kills 99.9% of germs in a matter of seconds and our plant based formula is better for the environment, you and your baby. Ideal for on the go use, our rinse-free formula is perfect for hand hygiene with no need for water or soap.”

It was easier to use on little hands, and you could see if you had got the foam all over the hand which is hard to do with gels.
5. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?
Yes! It might be more expensive than others, but it's kinder to the hands, and doesn't leave a strong scent so you can eat after using it without having to find somewhere to wash your hands when out and about.

Thanks for letting me try it Smile

  5. Yes would recommend. My 4 Yr old dd has eczema on her hands and will happily use this, but not other hand gels. aggravate her
CardinalCat · 02/07/2021 14:14
  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser? My five year old was obsessed with using it- the foam texture definitely made it feel like fun and not a chore.
  2. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance? No drying alcohol, and the fact it lacked fragrance - food for sensitive skin. However I did note that it's an anti bacterial and not anti-viral. I presume it would not be effective against covid (where it's generally recommended that strong isopropyl alcohol is used, albeit this is very drying for sensitive skin.)
  3. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about? Very convenient to use when out and about!
  4. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel? As stated in 1, the foam was extremely well received by the children in the family!
  5. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children? Yes, for antibacterial purposes. Unless you can tell me otherwise, I think we would still use a separate anti viral gel when needed.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?

I liked that it is dispensed as a light foam which is easy to apply to hands without dripping or feeling sticky. It dries in quickly without leaving any residue. Skin doesn't feel dried out after using. The design of the bottle and pump allow even young children to dispense it without it being messy. It was gentle on even very sensitive skin, and I liked the fact it has plant based active ingredients. I couldn't find information on the packaging as to what materials the bottle, pump and lid are made of, and no recycling information other than to dispose in accordance with regulation which didn't help me to know whether it can be recycled or not.

  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?

I liked that it is alcohol free and uses plant based ingredients. Being fragrance free will be less likely to trigger skin sensitivities.

  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?

It was very easy to use both at home and on the go. The design makes it easy for even little hands to dispense and use it without it being messy. The light foam doesn't drip or leave a sticky residue, and the bottle is small enough for popping in pockets or my handbag, or sitting neatly in the home.

  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

I prefer this to the gel sanitisers as they can drip, feel sticky, leave residue on the hands and take a while to dry in. This foam was much more user friendly.

  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children

Yes, I already have. It's much less faff than other sanitisers we've used, is gentle on even the most sensitive skin and has natural ingredients with no alcohol.

  2. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about? Yes it was easy to use and especially handy out an about in this hot weather, as other sanitizer can get more runny in the heat and shoot out the dispenser making a mess. This did not have that problem.

  4. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children? I would yes

We liked it, the foam was less messy and convenient. I didn’t like the smell much but it disappeared after a few seconds.
  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?
Yes, that is exactly what I liked best, I was less worried about harsh chemicals drying out our skin although I was still reluctant to use it on my 10 month old as she would inevitably suck her fingers at some point and I didn’t like the idea of her consuming it!
  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?
Yes definitely. The foam was less messy and the bottle was a handy size for a bag or pocket.

Good - it is less likely to be spilt onto the floor!

  1. What were your overall thoughts on Milton’s antibacterial hand sanitiser?

If it smelled better this would be brilliant.

  1. What did you like most about the sanitiser? Did you like the fact that it is plant based, has no alcohol and no fragrance?

I love that it doesn't have alcohol but I'm concerned it may not be effective against covid. It's very gentle on our hands.

  1. Was the sanitiser easy to use both in the home and when out and about?

Very easy, the pump/foam combo makes it very easy to use.

  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?
Love this, no mess!
  1. Would you recommend Milton antibacterial hand sanitiser to other parents of young children?

Yes if I knew it was effective against covid and they wanted an alcohol free one. I prefer the neals yard one which is equally gentle on the hands but has a bonus of smelling amazing and while it has alcohol I know it's effective against covid.

Fullofthejoysofspring · 04/07/2021 12:35

Very.

  1. How do you feel about the hand sanitiser being a foam based product rather than a gel?

I’m a big convert to the product.

I liked the size but would prefer more variety of sizes maybe with some way of attaching to bags etc also a variety of fragrances

We used it mainly out of the house - whe shopping and going to and from activities

Yes o will be purchasing again
