We are looking for Mumsnetters in the UK with at least one child aged 2-12 to read with their children and be part of Egmont’s Reading Club.

If you have more than one child you’d like to take part, please sign up individually for them by completing the survey more than once, using the same personal details for yourself. You will need to complete individual feedback for each child as a part of the reading club.

Egmont will be sending you and your child at least 2 books weekly and occasionally magazines for a period of 6 weeks, asking you to read together and share your experiences. You’d also get a copy of Help Your Child Love Reading by Alison David.

Here’s what Egmont has to say: “Coronavirus has turned the world upside down and we are all dealing with a new ‘normal’ – the children are home from school and we have to find ways to keep them occupied, happy and to keep the learning going. There is one simple thing that can help in so many ways, and that’s reading aloud to them. We’d like you to read to your child every day, more than once a day if you’d like! That’s why we are starting the Egmont Reading Club on Mumsnet.

We at Egmont know the enormous benefits of reading aloud to children including supporting their learning and a better sense of wellbeing. It's deeply comforting to be read to and in these times of uncertainty we're keen to help families enjoy special time together.”

Selected testers will be asked to complete the following tasks:

  1. Indicate which books (from a list) that you’d like to receive each week for 6 weeks
  2. Read with your children daily or more often.
  3. Fill in a reading diary (which we will be sending to you weekly).
  4. Leave your feedback for each week of reading throughout the 6 weeks on a public thread on Mumsnet.

All selected participants in Egmont’s Reading Club who leave the required feedback on the public feedback thread and in all 6 weekly diaries will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

We haven't had any magazines either but my children are older too - 9 and 12.

I've not had the new links either which reminds me I need to fill in most of this weeks still!

outnumbered77 · 09/05/2020 08:16

@leeloo1 how old is your son? Mine is 10 but. He didn't get a fortnite magazine but he does play it so would have liked that one.
No books or diary links email here either and Mumsnet said my daughter's missing books from last week were ordered on Monday too but no sign yet.

leeloo1 · 09/05/2020 09:04

@outnumbered77 - ds is 11, so technically the right age. It's just likes and dislikes are so random aren't they? It's a shame I can't really post it on to your ds, but it'd probably cost as much as the magazine is worth.

Dd's books didn't arrive last Friday, as usual, but they came on Thurs (and were beautiful - 2 Michael Morpurgo ones), so hopefully yours will come soon.

The whole process of checking reviews /feedback and looking at requests and placing the orders must be hugely time consuming. It'll be sad when it's over for us, but probably the organisers will breathe a huge sigh of relief! 😂 🙈

outnumbered77 · 09/05/2020 09:06

@leeloo1 oh no wouldn't ask you to post. How long does this go on for?
I'm really enjoying it but my diary entries are very repetitive.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 09/05/2020 11:36

My ds got the fortnite magazine and he was delighted. He read it cover to cover and has enjoyed firing the bow and arrows at his big brother. 😀

Maisiesaves · 09/05/2020 12:00

Oh I was just going to say I'd had a 'Fortnite' magazine posted but there was no packaging label or anything so I had no idea who/where it was from! Could only guess it was from Egmont! My DS 7 hasn't looked through the magazine yet, he's been too busy playing with the bow and arrows!!!

Maisiesaves · 09/05/2020 12:03

@TwoMuchTwoYoung has he tried firing the arrows at the windows? They actually stick!! (We've also had one end up in the tree; I had to stand on the slide with a broom to hit it down again!) I've tried using it too but my aim is terrible! :')

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 09/05/2020 12:17

Maisie - he's tried firing at the windows but I've told him he's not allowed as the window cleaner had just been. Feel mean now, I might let him have a go 😀

allthingsred · 09/05/2020 19:18

Was just coming on to say not recieved books or diary Links for this week yet.
Possibly with the bank holiday things have been delayed.
I'll write the diaries then copy then when links come through.
Still working our way through last week's books so it's OK they aren't here yet.
I have enjoyed this. It's been so lovely getting that time with the kids.

Fortnite mag arrived today my dd was buzzing with that. She loves fortnite

outnumbered77 · 11/05/2020 12:29

Got a fortnite and my little pony magazine in the post today, along with my daughter's missing books. Everyone pleased!

leeloo1 · 11/05/2020 12:31

@outnumbered77 - hurray! Glad you got comics your dc like. 🙂 Dd was v excited about the free bunny toy on the my little pony comic! 😂

leeloo1 · 11/05/2020 12:34

I've had the new diary links too (although there isn't a weekly survey this week).

I haven't heard anything about last week's books though and we're meant to submit the new choices today...

munchbunch12 · 11/05/2020 16:22

@leeloo1 we're the same, so we just put down books we didn't include last time, as we have no idea what we're going to receive for last week.

leeloo1 · 11/05/2020 19:38

@munchbunch12 - that's probably a good plan. The only problem is my memory (never great at the best of times!) is shot with the lockdown and I can't really remember what I put down! 😂

Ah well, I had the fab news that our books are coming tomorrow - the kids are going to be super excited!! What would happen if I delayed choosing books til lunchtime tmrw d'you think? 🤔

munchbunch12 · 11/05/2020 19:59

@leeloo1 could be a bit risky as they ask for the choices by 10am in my email... I suppose you could wait until tomorrow morning and see if you get an email saying you have an early delivery slot? One of mine was delivered in the 8.30-9.30am slot so you never know, you might receive them before 10am! I only know which books we've put down previously because I wrote them down!

Malmontar · 11/05/2020 20:02

We still don't have a delivery email so I guess nothing is coming tomorrow. DD is collecting the Tintin books so im not sure what books I should choose as we don't know which were getting. Anyway, silly problem to have. I would definitely fill the diary on time though.

Maisiesaves · 12/05/2020 00:43

@TwoMuchTwoYoung I don't blame you, tbh! I've toyed with the idea of getting a window cleaner in, but whenever I clean them myself, they become dirty again THE VERY SAME DAY, it'd be like throwing money down the drain with the water!! :')

I've had the new diary links for the week, too, but no overall weekly survey? I also only received a delivery email on the very first order and not had another once since, but the last two deliveries have come with the regular post due to being so thin so that might be why I've not had delivery info :)

@MNHQ is this also the thread to leave general feedback on the book club? I just wanted to say how lovely it has been re-establishing a reading routine with my son. It's become a highlight of the day: it took a few attempts to find a good time to read and it's become the last thing we do after I've tucked him in and he holds my hand whilst I read. It's the sweetest thing. I am enjoying reading aloud again; it's also good practice for my teacher training ;) (Sadly on pause due to the virus!) My son has become more interested in books and reading in general which is an added bonus!

Katesmate123 · 12/05/2020 21:02

We have been having a great time with reading and choosing books! I didn’t know where the Fortnite comic had come from either until I read the thread. Still no books arrived yet but we have made choices for next time so hopefully they will turn up soon.

needtoseperate · 13/05/2020 08:42

Dear admin
I don’t know if there’s any mileage posting here but I was part of me trail and then nothing, I made contact with Lucy once and then nothing, I’ve don’t everything I’m supposed to do and sent numerous clear emails- but had nothing except the first two books and that contact from Lucy please get in touch thanks

Malmontar · 13/05/2020 12:46

Hey we've still not had last week's books and no confirmation of this week either. @JustineBMumsnet anything? Thans

Katesmate123 · 13/05/2020 15:30

We are the same Malmontar. Still no books from last week. Did the order for this week without knowing if we would get the books we ordered from last. I sent an email but not heard back.

Osquito · 14/05/2020 10:46

Just got books on doorstep! DS is begging to begin reading them... but that may be because we’re about to begin maths work.

Katesmate123 · 14/05/2020 10:59

Oooh last weeks or this weeks delivery Osquito?

Osquito · 14/05/2020 11:27

I’m pretty certain this is what was meant to arrive bank holiday Friday.

Katesmate123 · 14/05/2020 11:59

Fingers crossed then! Still not heard anything from DPD and I usually have notification the day before anything arrives.
