We are looking for Mumsnetters in the UK with at least one child aged 2-12 to read with their children and be part of Egmont’s Reading Club.

If you have more than one child you’d like to take part, please sign up individually for them by completing the survey more than once, using the same personal details for yourself. You will need to complete individual feedback for each child as a part of the reading club.

Egmont will be sending you and your child at least 2 books weekly and occasionally magazines for a period of 6 weeks, asking you to read together and share your experiences. You’d also get a copy of Help Your Child Love Reading by Alison David.

Here’s what Egmont has to say: “Coronavirus has turned the world upside down and we are all dealing with a new ‘normal’ – the children are home from school and we have to find ways to keep them occupied, happy and to keep the learning going. There is one simple thing that can help in so many ways, and that’s reading aloud to them. We’d like you to read to your child every day, more than once a day if you’d like! That’s why we are starting the Egmont Reading Club on Mumsnet.

We at Egmont know the enormous benefits of reading aloud to children including supporting their learning and a better sense of wellbeing. It's deeply comforting to be read to and in these times of uncertainty we're keen to help families enjoy special time together.”

Selected testers will be asked to complete the following tasks:

  1. Indicate which books (from a list) that you’d like to receive each week for 6 weeks
  2. Read with your children daily or more often.
  3. Fill in a reading diary (which we will be sending to you weekly).
  4. Leave your feedback for each week of reading throughout the 6 weeks on a public thread on Mumsnet.

All selected participants in Egmont’s Reading Club who leave the required feedback on the public feedback thread and in all 6 weekly diaries will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

Hi again @JustineBMumsnet, I know you are on a Mon-Fri team and so probably won't see this until tomorrow. I selected both DC's 2nd week book choices on Fri 17/04, and you confirmed they both seemed to have 'come through' OK to you although DC2's didn't save at my end... do you know when the 2nd sets of books and the new diaries will arrive? I'm just a bit concerned that we won't have been able to select the 3rd week choices if the deadline is tomorrow. PS - thanks for all your help so far, this is a great product test with some fab book choices that are much appreciated at this difficult time.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 26/04/2020 10:35

@JustineBMumsnet I seem to be in the same position as @munchbunch12 I completed week 1 diaries for both children although my older child’s diary didn’t seem to save properly and I have heard nothing since, no emails and no new books or magazines, we are still reading together each day but I have no diary to fill in for week 2

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 26/04/2020 12:42

@JustineBMumsnet I have now had an email with new diary links for both children, thanks Smile

munchbunch12 · 26/04/2020 13:18

@YoureMyWifeNowDave same here, new email with links received Smile

Scoleah · 28/04/2020 10:44

We randomly received a Paw patrol Magazine this morning. With a free gift that broke within 0.5 seconds. But he's loving the free hat/mask!

JustineBMumsnet · 28/04/2020 11:11

Hi all, thanks for your comments. We just wanted to give you some more information from Egmont surrounding receipt of magazines: "Just to confirm, not everyone will receive a magazine as part of this club. It all depends on the age of your child and what is publishing that week – we’ll only send content and age-appropriate magazines. They will arrive with no message – they will be coming straight from the magazine warehouse. Thank you."

Just had our second delivery of books. Two very excited children!!!!
Thanks for the new diary links, they are much better.
With regards to the magazines ai am taking part with two children, is the magazine for both or for one child? How do I know which child it is for?

Many thanks!

Scoleah · 29/04/2020 11:42

We've just recieved a Second Magazine through the Post. Happy 3 yo again! Smile

leeloo1 · 29/04/2020 20:24

We just received a lol magazine through the post. Dd was very excited.

munchbunch12 · 29/04/2020 21:31

We received our second sets of books today, and a LOL magazine, thanks for these, they cheered the DCs up on a wet and cold day!

SherbertDip · 30/04/2020 15:32

@JustineBMumsnet we have received 2nd set of books thank you. Do you use the email we received last week with the separate links on for our diaries this week please ?

StuntNun · 30/04/2020 16:01

We got our second set of books yesterday and DS4 was very excited to receive them.

leeloo1 · 30/04/2020 20:02

I had a reminder to fill in all the diary entries (thanks), but none have saved, so apologies if I missed any.

How long do the entries need to be? I'm worried I'm not writing enough, but it's hard to find different things to say each day.

Osquito · 30/04/2020 20:07

I’ve replied tonight’s email from Insight, but maybe another MN staff is watching this thread so:
The new diary setup had me confused, especially as I got it on Sunday evening... I now don’t know which entries are missing, and when I’ve tried looking at each day’s link they’re all blank! I’ve definitely filled in some, so that’s worrying me. Really hope someone can point out where I’ve gone wrong so I can copy up the missing bits.

Scoleah · 30/04/2020 21:10

@Osquito if I've already filled in a day it comes up that I've already taken the survey.
Otherwise it will show up to fill in the Name etc before filling in diary entry

Osquito · 30/04/2020 21:21

@Scoleah
It could be something with my phone, because I’ve just tried the links on my laptop and they did exactly that - THANK YOU!! Was seriously panicking and about to write whole week out again.
However, I updated the Friday (on my phone earlier) and that definitely hasn’t saved whatsoever. Ffs.

Scoleah · 30/04/2020 22:05

@Osquito No problem. I just double checked all mine just incase but all seem to have gone through fine!

@leeloo1 I agree it's hard trying to find things to say everyday. Some days I have more than others! I feel like my entries are quite repetitive!

outnumbered77 · 01/05/2020 13:33

Our new books arrived today and my daughter's are missing. I requested them on the old survey system well before the deadline so that's annoying as she's desperately keen to read the next book in the series.

MrsAlwaysRight · 01/05/2020 13:49

I've just had a second delivery this week but it's exactly the same four books as we received on Tuesday Confused

leeloo1 · 01/05/2020 14:52

@outnumbered77 - I've found the same. It's unfortunate the package arrived as we were eating lunch... both kids were making a fuss about eating what I'd made and I said "if you eat nicely you can look at your new books". 🤦‍♂️ Oops. We then had tears from the little one who didn't have hers.

On the plus side at least she'd eaten her lunch! 😂

leeloo1 · 01/05/2020 14:53

@MrsAlwaysRight what were your duplicates? I'm curious as to what everyone is choosing /receiving.

MrsAlwaysRight · 01/05/2020 15:06

We got -
Danger at Donut Diner
The last kids on earth
Imagine me
The girl in the window

leeloo1 · 01/05/2020 15:06

These were ours. 🙂

My daughter (6) is loving the naughtiest unicorn series and currently reading the clockwork sparrow with my son (10)

leeloo1 · 01/05/2020 15:13

@MrsAlwaysRight my 11y ds is liking the last kids on earth books... though I managed to choose book 1, then 4 for him, so now he has book 2 to read! 😂 Then we need to find book 3.

How are you liking the donut diner books?
