We are looking for Mumsnetters in the UK with at least one child aged 2-12 to read with their children and be part of Egmont’s Reading Club.

If you have more than one child you’d like to take part, please sign up individually for them by completing the survey more than once, using the same personal details for yourself. You will need to complete individual feedback for each child as a part of the reading club.

Egmont will be sending you and your child at least 2 books weekly and occasionally magazines for a period of 6 weeks, asking you to read together and share your experiences. You’d also get a copy of Help Your Child Love Reading by Alison David.

Here’s what Egmont has to say: “Coronavirus has turned the world upside down and we are all dealing with a new ‘normal’ – the children are home from school and we have to find ways to keep them occupied, happy and to keep the learning going. There is one simple thing that can help in so many ways, and that’s reading aloud to them. We’d like you to read to your child every day, more than once a day if you’d like! That’s why we are starting the Egmont Reading Club on Mumsnet.

We at Egmont know the enormous benefits of reading aloud to children including supporting their learning and a better sense of wellbeing. It's deeply comforting to be read to and in these times of uncertainty we're keen to help families enjoy special time together.”

Selected testers will be asked to complete the following tasks:

  1. Indicate which books (from a list) that you’d like to receive each week for 6 weeks
  2. Read with your children daily or more often.
  3. Fill in a reading diary (which we will be sending to you weekly).
  4. Leave your feedback for each week of reading throughout the 6 weeks on a public thread on Mumsnet.

All selected participants in Egmont’s Reading Club who leave the required feedback on the public feedback thread and in all 6 weekly diaries will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

Thanks to those of you reporting issues with your second link and apologies we hadn't already got back to you (we're a Monday to Friday team)

We'll be looking into this today to try and figure out what is happening and get a solution over to you ASAP. If you're able to make a note of your diary entry/entries and book choices so they're ready to go once the link if fully up and running for you again we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks @JustineBMumsnet

Readaloud · 19/04/2020 22:18

I am so pleased to have been selected for this, thanks Egmont and MN.
My girls cannot believe their luck and are so excited about their new books.

I have had the same issue with completing the diary entry and book choices for my younger daughter as others have experienced, so I will watch carefully to see if the link gets fixed.

Freshstart40 · 20/04/2020 10:16

@JustineBMumsnet Hi, I'm still having the same issue with the survey link for my second child. I'm anxious today is the deadline for their book choices for the following week. With that in mind I've popped their choices inc ISBN numbers into the first child's survey link under their diary entry. Perhaps that's a workaround for others too, until the links are fixed?

Scoleah · 20/04/2020 10:21

Good idea @Freshstart40 I'll try that too!

JustineBMumsnet · 20/04/2020 10:34

Hi all - just to say we think we know what the issue is here and we're working on a solution for the reading club going forwards.

It looks like your responses are saving our side, but aren't showing up for you when you go back to the survey. That said, we're checking each of your responses so far individually to ensure this is the case for all and emailing those who have mentioned any problems with an update . If you have any further problems please do let us know - either on this thread or via email Smile

I'm having trouble with one of my child's responses too. Not sure what to do about the book choices either. I've typed one child's out three times now and it's still not showing on my side. Thanks

Readaloud · 20/04/2020 12:08

Thanks JustineB. Hopefully that means that they have the book choices we have entered.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 21/04/2020 08:56

It’s still going back to the beginning each time for my second child but when I filled in Monday’s diary I have just skipped over the bits I’ve already filled in, hope that’s ok!

SherbertDip · 21/04/2020 17:13

I am also having issues to my 2nd link, hope you received our book choices @justinemumsnet. I did send an email but as yet have not received a reply. I will add the info on the 1st link later on re our book choices

leeloo1 · 23/04/2020 21:46

I filled in a couple of diary entries for each child (sorry not to do more, I've been ill). But I've tried leaving the linked page open (it times out and goes blank) and closing and re-opening it from the original link and either way it doesn't seem to save the information, so the second time I did it I had to skip over blank pages to get to the correct day. Is this the same for everyone?

Sportsnight · 24/04/2020 06:39

It’s working fine for me - I click on the link in the email each day and it takes me to the right day. I think I saw somewhere that you might have problems if you don’t store cookies On your device or wipe your cache. Maybe it’s that?

SherbertDip · 24/04/2020 16:28

I have been back on and filled in the full week for 2nd child today.

Did anyone received a magazine today ?

munchbunch12 · 24/04/2020 16:57

@SherbertDip yes, a Disney Princess magazine came today. Has anyone had the second set/s of books yet?

SherbertDip · 24/04/2020 17:11

Thanks @munchbunch12 that all we got in an envelope. Not had anymore books but not sure if the choices had saved anyway

munchbunch12 · 24/04/2020 17:19

@SherbertDip I think from what @JustineBMumsnet said, although it might not look like the choices have saved to us, they seem to be receiving them OK at their end, so I'm hopeful that the second sets will be with us all soon.

Scoleah · 25/04/2020 09:55

No magazine here,
But my DC both had 2 books each yesterday!

outnumbered77 · 25/04/2020 12:13

I've just received a Disney magazine in the post - is that to do with this?

Ostanovka · 25/04/2020 12:28

We got the princess magazine today, to whoops of joy! No books but I was late submitting my diary so not sure if we'll get any more.

allthingsred · 25/04/2020 16:19

Having trouble with the link. It's asking me to fill in Sundays diary but i haven't yet done Fridays.
Worried my entries far won't have recorded.
Also not yet had next week's choices. Not a problem as yet as we are still reading through 2nd book but as there was an issue with link last week I'm concerned the choices didn't register.

Sportsnight · 25/04/2020 17:47

Has anyone else had the link for the survey for week 2 yet? Mine hasn’t come through.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 25/04/2020 18:27

@Sportsnight I haven’t had an email or any books/magazines for week 2 yet

Sportsnight · 25/04/2020 18:29

We did get the books through, but no magazine. I guess I’ll make a note and hopefully be able to remember on Monday 😁

leeloo1 · 26/04/2020 09:50

We didn't get a magazine, but did get the 2nd set of books. They're incredibly lucky children, the books are amazing - dd is currently engrossed in the Naughty Little Sister collection and ds is so inspired by the Minecraft maps book. ☺

I clicked on the links for both children to submit their reviews yesterday and they're completely different to each other now - 1 took me to Sunday (which I thought it was! 😂 🙈) and then had a page of multiple choice questions, the other took me to Friday and there was just one page then I had to make new book choices? So I've done the book choices for one child not the other now? 🤔

leeloo1 · 26/04/2020 10:02

I just looked again and it says for one of my children that I'll be sent a new link to more surveys and to choose the books for them. Any idea when this will be sent @JustineBMumsnet?

I've already submitted the choices for the other child (as it was the older version of the survey) and it said they have to be chosen by 10am tmrw. I'm going to have grumpy kids if they arrive for one and not the other.
