This is the feedback thread for the 400 Mumsnetters with children aged 1 - 12 who have been testing out Biotiful Dairy’s new cultured dairy drinks and snacks. 200 Mumsnetters were asked to test Biotiful Kefir Quark Squeezy snack in Vanilla Cheesecake flavour and Strawberry Cheesecake flavour, and 200 other Mumsnetters were asked to test Biotiful Kefir Slurpy drink in Strawberry flavour and Mango flavour.

I thought the flavour would be stronger, but liked that it wasn't too sweet.

Hi, we tasted the Mango slurpy and the Vanilla squeezy - sorry we were meant to try the strawberry slurpy but they were sold out!

Anyway, we all loved the slurpy, it was just sweet enough and not too thin or thick in consistency. I think it would be great for lunch boxes. My children agreed.

The verdict on the Vanilla squeezy was that it could have been slightly sweeter, and was a very thick consistency. None of us were keen I'm afraid.

I would recommend the slurpy definitely and would have to try another flavour in the squeezy product as the Vanilla didn't hit the mark.

It’s great to have snacks that include good gut bacteria. This is a great option as there aren’t as many kids options.

We tried the kefir slurpy drink in strawberry and mango

1. What did you like about the products and flavours that you tried?

I really like that it was a kefir option for children - weirdly, just before the opportunity to test came up I had been chatting to a friend about how it would be good to get kefir for kids! We liked both flavours, 4 year old and 1 year old both happy and I tried both too, they had a nice but not over powering flavour. I love that there's no added sugar, as so many dairy products seem to add sugar, so this gives us another sugar free option. I really like the friendly guy bacteria in this product, I always try to get my children to have probiotics if they've had a stomach bug or needed antibiotics and this is an easy way to do that.

1. What did you dislike about the product and flavours that you tried?

Nothing about the product or the flavours, they're great. But. The packaging. It's easy and convenient, yes, and my 1 year old enjoyed the little sucky pouch. I know other yogurts and baby foods use similar pouches. However, I'm not sure how/where you can recycle it, my household recycling won't take it. I'm really trying to cut down on plastics, so the packaging is the only thing that would put me off.

1. If you would recommend Biotiful Kids Kefir to others, why would you recommend it?

I would recommend as they're tasty and healthy and my children enjoyed them.

We tried the strawberry and the mango slurpy drinks - there was a big display out in the supermarket with the products shown on it but very few options on the shelf.

They were hard to find and I had to try 2 supermarkets. But nothing to dislike otherwise.

Yes love the ingredients and the idea of healthy gut cultures. Don’t appear to be overly processed or sickly sweet.

We tried the squeezy snack in vanilla cheesecake and strawberry cheesecake.

I liked the flavour and texture of the products. I liked that they were low sugar as many children's yogurt products are packed full of it. I'm keen for DS to eat more gut nourishing foods such as Kefir, so I think the idea is great.

DS liked the novelty of the squeezy tube. I was worried that the tube would be messy to eat from, but it wasnt. They are easy to put in packed lunch boxes.

Unfortunately DS wasn't a fan of the vanilla cheesecake flavour. He did quite like the strawberry one, but commented that neither were sweet enough.

1. If you would recommend Biotiful Kids Kefir to others, why would you recommend it?

I will recommend it. Kefir is a good product which I am keen for my children to eat. These childrens' snacks make it easier to get it into them.

We also occasionally have the Kefir drinks and yoghurts at home. DS occasionally likes the cherry and cocoa drinks and the strawberry and cherry compote yoghurts. Perhaps the children's range could be extended to these or other new flavours too?

My daughter liked the flavours and the ‘funny mango and strawberry people’ on the packaging. I liked that they are full of good gut bacteria and they have no added sugar.

I dislike the pouch packaging and probably won’t buy these products again because of it. I know there are schemes to recycle such packaging but as my daughter no longer has products in these pouches, I would have to collect for ages to warrant using the recycling schemes. I don’t like needless single use plastic.

1. If you would recommend Biotiful Kids Kefir to others, why would you recommend it?
   

I would recommend the actual products because they are healthy and my daughter clearly enjoyed them. However, I would prefer if they sold the product in large pots or bottles which were more easily reused/recycled.

The children really liked the taste.

Firstly they were very hard to find - I had to travel across town to a specific supermarket that I wouldn't usually visit. I wouldn't go out of my way just to buy these.

The other problem was that my children managed to make a huge mess with these, spilling them over their clothes. I wouldn't send them in lunchboxes for fear of them making too much of a mess.

1. If you would recommend Biotiful Kids Kefir to others, why would you recommend it?

I would recommend them as a snack for out and about but only for children who are less messy than mine.

We tried the Biotiful Kefir Slurpy drink in Strawberry flavour and Mango flavour. The strawberry flavour had a lovely taste and tasted more fruity than the mango flavour drink. Felt refreshing too. The mango flavoured drink had a slight after taste but very slight. I would recommend this those who have little ones with tummy troubles.

Unfortunately we didn't like them but I loved the fact they have live cultures in them.

Tasted sour and left a funny aftertaste. Me and my boys weren't keen on them.

I'd recommend that friends try them due to the live cultures and great idea you can freeze in the summer.

The kids seem to really like the flavours and the product, they said tasted good and enjoyed trying something new. Both kids tried a flavour each and they went down very well.

The kids loved them but it’s not something that I particularly liked, for me I probably prefer a thick yoghurt so maybe that why I didn’t like it.

Yes the kids loved them so would definitely recommend for children. It’s something new for the kids to try and handy for snacks and lunches.

We tried the mango and strawberry slurpy drinks!
The strawberry was really tasty, normally the family dislike anything mango so really surprised me when the kids actually preferred this flavour! Just the right taste and not as sweet as expected!

I didn’t find a thing my children disliked about the products we tried, they were all always asking for more later on in the day.

I would definitely recommend to other families reason being they are so convenient for a quick snack or for school lunches, also just the right size not too much inside or not too little, my children really enjoyed and will definitely b on my weekly shop list thanks x

Even though you could smell the strawberry flavour quite strongly the taste wasn't there and was almost bland.

I would recommend only based on it being a healthy snack but not for the taste as that was quite disappointing.

We tried the slurpy drinks both in mango and strawberry

I liked the packaging in that DD could open the twisty cap without my help which means I know she could manage them in her packed lunch. She liked the smiley faces on the fruit on the front of the pack and the facts on the back. DD liked both flavours but preferred the mango as it was more refreshing. She said the flavour was 'just right' as you could taste the fruit and the yoghurt taste too.

DD had no complaints. I had a little taste and I wasn't keen. The consistency was good. Wetter than a yoghurt drink but I've never had kefir before. I thought it was a bit of a tart taste. Nothing against the product just not for me.

4. If you would recommend Biotiful Kids Kefir to others, why would you recommend it?
Yes if they were in the market for individual portion drinks like this

Think I would only buy these if they were on special offer. Do like that they are low in sugar.
