This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the new Flora Original recipe with their family. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 0-12.

Here’s what Flora has to say: “Try our Flora Original’s great new taste with 100% plant goodness*. Flora Original spread has been a family favourite for generations. Melt on toast, spread on sandwiches, mix into meals, Flora Original’s new recipe is made from 100% of ingredients from natural origins. Our product is certified vegan, however we don’t recommend if you have a dairy allergy.”

The taste was not buttery enough. The texture was melt in mouth but quite thin. It was also quite salty tasting. I thought it was a good price and liked that it was lower fat.

No we would stick with spreadable butter. I might try cooking with it as it is so much lower in fat than butter.

I liked the way it tasted and spread. It didn't feel cheap and full of oil. DH and the DC liked it too. I also liked the packaging.

I liked how easily spreadable it was from the fridge. Nothing worse than ripping the bread with hard butter!

Yes my family loved the new flora original and thy love the fact that it is plant based as mentioned has a nice creamy taste to it.

We would still buy butter for that salty buttery taste but also buy this for cake baking and an alternative for my vegan daughter as she loves the fact it's plant based alternative .

I liked the way it spread straight from the fridge, I was quite surprised by this as it seemed quite hard, it was great in recipes too, it made great cakes!

Probably not. I normally buy supermarket own brand sunflower or olive oil spread. Flora is quite a lot more expensive and doesn't have enough benefits to justify the extra spend

I liked that it was plant-based/vegan and was a good alternative to dairy. It spread straight from the fridge and although wasn’t butter, it was pretty close! My children didn’t notice the difference when they had it on toast.

It was nice - similar to most spreads we've used.

It spread quite easily and tasted fine. Nothing really to dislike.

Taste was fine. We do prefer the Flora Buttery for taste (on toast especially) but this one was OK too.

If it was on offer, probably, as we tend to go with what's on offer.

We all liked the taste. Liked it was plant based as I don't eat meat. Didn't really like the packaging, a bit old fashioned.

I'm not a huge butter or spread fan but I enjoyed eating this spread on bagels. How did your family like the taste of New Flora Original? Well, the tub didn't last long so I think they really liked it.

Because its a healthy choice for our family. Also Flora brand cares for their consumers and they've been around for so many years.
I grew up with Flora being on our table always.It was the only choice of my late mother.Now the ingredients are all so naturally good for our health.Its great value for money,easy to spread and so tasty on toasts,mashed potatoes,pasta,on corns.... a so versatile product which we love 😉

My family and I were absolutely loved the new Flora and we were satisfied. Quite a similar taste to Anchor butter yet it is unique.😊

I prefer the flavour of butter but the rest of the family were satisfied with the new Flora.

I think it’s not buttery enough in flavour for me but otherwise was fine for the family.

The only dislike was that it didn’t taste like butter to me. Otherwise, I like that it spread well (straight from the fridge), contained less saturated fat and would cater for Vegan guests.

We don’t usually use Flora, so can’t really compare. Apart from me, the rest of the family were happy with the taste (it went down a treat with the kids on toast which I was surprised about, knowing how picky my daughter can be!)

If we buying a margarine, then yes but because of the flavour, I’ll be sticking with buying a light spreadable butter.

We were very satisfied with it and every member of the family enjoyed the taste. Flora isn't usually a brand I would buy, for various reasons but this trial has changed my mind quite a lot.

Up until this trial I would have said no. After reading some information on spreads a few years ago, I stopped buying them completely and started using butter only, even though this was more expensive. I did this because I didn't want my family eating artificial products and preferred the natural nature of butter. But when I bought Flora, I noticed that it comes 100% from plants and this has made me reconsider it. It also doesn't have the plastic-y taste that I associate with spreads. So my trust in Flora has definitely increased!

Yes I think so. Everyone likes it which is a big plus point and it is versatile. I can spread it or use it for baking. It is easy to spread which is important for my young children because they always want to butter their own toast!

I don't eat a lot of butter or spreads as a spread so I can't really comment on the taste. But I did use it for baking and it was very effective and added a nicer flavour than the baking butter I usually use. My husband and two children were very impressed with it and thought the taste was excellent. My husband wants us to continue buying it as he preferred it to our usual butter!

Yes we all liked the taste very much, I think it tastes much more natural now and closer to butter which is very positive. There were no complaints at all so it went down very well!

Yes I think we will buy it again as long as the price was reasonable and I was reassured that it was a healthier option for us. I liked seeing my family enjoying it as much as they did.

Yes I would recommend it because I think it is a high quality product and now that I'm not as worried about the health effects, I am happier to recommend it to people.

Will probs also keep buying ‘real butter’ for dh though.

This was a very nice spread to use - it tasted great and spread easily.

I'd like to think so - I know that it has been around for many years and my Grandma used to use it!

Yes - it can be used for sandwiches, cakes and pastry, which saved me buying three different products.

It was easy to spread from the fridge and melted nicely on my morning toast without making it too soggy. The only thing I didn't like was the appearance as it is more yellow than the butter I normally use so my butter icing wasn't as pale as normal, but still tasted nice.

We liked the taste and my daughter really liked on her crumpet in the morning, saying it made it extra delicious! I made a victoria sponge with it for my Dad's birthday and, quite frankly, it was the best sponge cake i've ever made so a definite winner!

I would choose it over my normal baking spread as it produced such a great result. I still prefer the taste of real butter but I wouldn't mind having it in the future as a substitute.

Yes - it's a good all rounder and appears to be a healthy choice.
