This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the new Flora Original recipe with their family. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 0-12.

Here’s what Flora has to say: “Try our Flora Original’s great new taste with 100% plant goodness*. Flora Original spread has been a family favourite for generations. Melt on toast, spread on sandwiches, mix into meals, Flora Original’s new recipe is made from 100% of ingredients from natural origins. Naturally rich in Omega 3, with 67% less saturated fat than butter, Flora has absolutely no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours. Our product is certified vegan, however we don’t recommend if you have a dairy allergy.”

Yes really liked the taste as seemed so much more natural like real butter without being greasy or synthetic.

Yes I definitely would as feels like real butter but much healthier.

Yes I definitely would as much healthier than butter and taste is so much nicer than the other butter alternatives. It just doesn't have the synthetic taste and appearance most others do and it is great to cook with.

Very, it had more flavour than I expected.

The taste was better than I expected (we usually have Clover), it spread easily on bread and I used it in cooking.

We liked it. Not as buttery as Clover but still a pleasant taste.

It was good to try an alternative but my family unfortunately weren't keen on the flavour of Flora original.

• Overall we were really satisfied with new Flora - definite improvement on the previous version!

• Flora is a brand that I trust. It's a household name that has been around forever.

• The brand caters to all my family's needs... we all really liked the taste and it is a really versatile product. It was great for baking, cooking and as a spread - tastes much more 'buttery' than the old version. Nothing to dislike!

• I would buy it over other brands as I think it is good quality.. being plant based is a bonus too. I'd recommend it to friends/family - think most of them would be keen to try it.

• Is Flora a brand you can trust? Yes we've always used Flora and even discovered the Dairy Free variety too which we sometimes get.

• Is Flora a brand that caters to all your family’s needs? Yes it has a great variety range from the health conscious with the Pro Active to the allergy sufferers i.e Dairy Free ones too.

• What did you like or dislike about new Flora Original? What did your family like or dislike? Great tasting plant spread that's Lowe in saturated fat, better than what's out there!

• Did you like the taste of New Flora Original? How did your family like the taste of New Flora Original? The taste was good and like mentioned above it was good with bread/ toast, potatoes (in mash) and as a meal add on or used to fry eggs too.

• Would you choose New Flora Original for you or your family over other margarine and/or butter brands? Please explain why or why not. I would choose Flora any day - great healthy alternative. We'll stick to flora!

• Would you recommend Flora Original to friends or family? Please explain why or why not. Yes I would recommend the Flora Original because of its taste and health benefits too.

• Overall, how satisfied were you and your family with new Flora Original? I don't use much butter/spread except in baking but it tasted fine to me and my daughters, who can be fussy, really liked the taste. I have one daughter who usually insists on using Bertolli but actually preferred new Flora Original!

• Is Flora a brand you can trust? I first remember my mum purchasing Flora many years ago - she suffered with Multiple Sclerosis and, at the time, this was considered a better option to butter so yes, I do trust Flora as a brand.

• Is Flora a brand that caters to all your family’s needs? Yes, this brand caters to the needs of my family of six - everyone used it and I found it was fine to use in baking. I was also pleased that it contains less saturated fat than other products and is full of natural ingredients.

• What did you like or dislike about new Flora Original? What did your family like or dislike? I liked the way it spread on sandwiches - hate it when I'm in a rush preparing packed lunches and have hard butter! Flora Original spread really easily. I also liked the taste of the Victoria Sponge using Flora Original - it didn't really taste any different but had less saturated fat, which was a bonus. My family were all happy to use Flora Original and two of my daughters specifically commented on the flavour - they felt it was more "buttery" than other spreads they have used, but the flavour wasn't too strong.

• Did you like the taste of New Flora Original? How did your family like the taste of New Flora Original? I found the taste fine - to be honest, I didn't notice the difference between New Flora Original and Lurpak Spreadable in a sandwich. My family were all happy with the taste - either not noticing a difference or actually preferring the taste.

• Would you choose New Flora Original for you or your family over other margarine and/or butter brands? Please explain why or why not. I would definitely choose New Flora Original for me and my family in place of our usual brands - currently we tend to have Lurpak (or Lurpak Spreadable) and Bertolli on the go but as everyone liked New Flora Original, it would be easier to just purchase the one product. When it comes to baking, I usually use Stork and so I would have to weigh up the health benefits against the cost difference.

• Would you recommend Flora Original to friends or family? Please explain why or why not. Yes, I would recommend this to family and friends - it is a healthier choice, without compromising on the flavour and for any of my friends and family that currently use several products to meet the needs of different family members, I would certainly recommend they try Flora Original and hopefully, like me, end up purchasing one product rather than several.

Overall, how satisfied were you and your family with new Flora Original? We usually use Aldi's Olive spread, but I was keen to try the new Flora, as it's a brand that I haven't used for years. My husband and I liked the taste, but my children were not so keen.

• Is Flora a brand that caters to all your family’s needs? Yes, we used it for toast, muffins, sandwiches and to make shortcrust pastry.
• What did you like or dislike about new Flora Original? What did your family like or dislike? I like that I can use it as a spread straight from the fridge and that I can use it for baking. I usually buy Olive spread and cooking margarine for baking or pastry.
• Did you like the taste of New Flora Original? How did your family like the taste of New Flora Original? My children said they preferred the taste of Olive spread or real butter! My daughter noticed the different taste on her breakfast muffins straight away.
• Would you choose New Flora Original for you or your family over other margarine and/or butter brands? We all still like the taste of Olive spread and butter as a treat, but I think I will buy Flora to replace my cooking margarine.
• Would you recommend Flora Original to friends or family. Yes I would - it's tasty, versatile and healthy.

We were all very keen on its taste, definitely a big difference to supermarket own brands. A nice light buttery taste.

I think if Flora was priced competitively we would absolutely buy it. My children both slather it on their toast so we do get through quite a bit.

Yes, absolutely. With Flora I expect a level of quality which was most definitely apparent when tasting the product.

We liked the taste, the way it melted nicely into bread and the smell, we disliked how hard it was - much firmer than other spreads and harder to 'spread'.

i pretty much just buy whichever is on offer; we aren't very fussy. But it was nice so if it was the same price as the next one I would choose it

Loved the fact that it's spreadable straight for the fridge. Will be useful in winter when butter is solid when used in the kitchen as our kitchen tends to be cold.

Yes. It was more buttery than I remember it being. It was a nice taste - everyone agreed.

I think it tastes so much nicer than the spread I buy from a budget supermarket. But, it's a lot more expensive. I'd probably get it if it was on offer. Even then, it would still be more expensive than a block of butter or my usual spread. I'll keep my eyes peeled for offers.

Yes, I'd ask them if they like the taste and how buttery this one is.

Really spreadable which isn’t an easy thing going from the fridge to bread sometimes the ‘hard’ brands tear holes in the bread which is so annoying but this doesn’t do that.

Yes we all really liked the taste including my son who is fussy with butter and prefers to go without it but he ate this fine no problems.

Yes I would if the price was acceptable as although it was tasty there are cheap brands which are very comparable in taste.

Yes I would it’s a great choice which should be suitable to basically anyone at all no matter what their diet.

I really liked the taste and it's easy to spread, I was very satisfied.

Now that they have said that all their spreads are plant based, I can trust then to be suitable for vegans. They have been around a long time and there have been no issues that I am aware of so yes, i think they are a trustworthy brand.

Now that Flora is plant based they cater for my family's needs as we are vegan. We all liked the spread so it suits our needs well.

We all liked the taste and it spread easily straight out of the fridge. It melts nicely on toast. My husband said he does prefer the taste of Vitalite which is our usual brand but he doesn't mind the Flora. Personally I thought the Flora was much nicer than the Vitalite. A lot of people use flora so it means if we are staying with friends there us more chance of them having margarine in that we can eat which is exciting too.

We all liked the taste. My husband said he prefers Vitalite but the Flora is nice enough. I thought the Flora was much nicer and tasted less margariney! My daughter like it too.

If it was on offer at the same price as Vitalite or cheaper then I would buy it instead. It is currently £2 for a 1 kg tub in Asda which does work out cheaper and so I bought the Flora original and the buttery one to try. But the 500g tub us usually 1.50 and I can get Vitalite for about 1.10 and as we are on a budget i wouldn't spend that much more on a tub.

I would recommend it to friends and family now as it us suitable for vegans and it tastes really nice.

Very satisfied. It has a lovely taste (not artificial as some spreads are) and it spreads really nicely so no ripped bread!

I suppose so. It has been around a long time and reminds me of my childhood- we always had Flora then!

My family’s needs are easily spreadable (boys are a bit rough!) and tasty in sandwiches and on toast. Also like something that isn’t really artificial tasting or that contains lots of nasties.

We all enjoyed it - no complaints at all. We even took it camping with us and it was good for that too.

We all enjoyed the taste. It was tasty without being artificial tasting, which is good.

If the price was ok, then yes I would as I really liked the taste spreadable-ness of it and all the family liked it too.

Hard to answer as I don’t generally go around chatting about spreads to friends or family or recommending things as people have different tastes. But if I was having a chat where spreads came up, then yes I would. We did have friends camping with us who shared it too and they enjoyed it too, so maybe that counts as recommending it?! :)

Much nicer than I was expecting / remembered. Family all happily ate it without comment which is probably the highest praise!

Absolutely! It's a brand i always remember growing up and have used Flora alot!

Yes i enjoyed it and my daughter liked it and can be very wary of new tastes but it went down well!

I enjoyed the taste and it was easy to spread which is always good. My daughter enjoyed the taste and texture of it.

Would your chose new Flora Original for you or your family over other margarine and/or butter brands?
I would buy it again if the normal Flora buttery etc was on offer at the time though and the new one wasn’t I’d probably grab one on offer.

Would you recommend new Flora Original to your friends and family?
Yes i would! Its a good all rounder for various family needs!

It was overall ok- easier to spread than my usual brand and good for baking

• Is Flora a brand that caters to all your family’s needs? For me I prefer the taste of butter but the children liked it.
• What did you like or dislike about new Flora Original? What did your family like or dislike? Liked the fact it spread easier, good for baking, kids were happy, good price and fairly natural. Though i prefer a buttery taste- flora buttery is my preference
