This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the new Flora Original recipe with their family. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 0-12.

Here’s what Flora has to say: “Try our Flora Original’s great new taste with 100% plant goodness*. Flora Original spread has been a family favourite for generations. Melt on toast, spread on sandwiches, mix into meals, Flora Original’s new recipe is made from 100% of ingredients from natural origins. Naturally rich in Omega 3, with 67% less saturated fat than butter, Flora has absolutely no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours. Our product is certified vegan, however we don’t recommend if you have a dairy allergy.”

Very happy - I was surprised at how good it tasted very little difference to my normal buttery spread.

Yes I used to buy Flora for years but changed to butter when my kids were small. Certainly a brand I can trust.

Definitely! Great taste, spreads from the fridge, a winner all round!

We all liked the tub design, spreadability and the taste. No dislikes.

Definitely I have been converted!!! Will definitely be buying Flora in the future instead of my normal buttery spread.

Definitely - I have nothing negative to say about it, tastes great nothing like the processed taste of old.

• Flora is definitely a brand you can trust, it has been around for such a long time
• Flora caters to everyone's family’s needs as they have so many different products in their range from dairy free to buttery
• We liked the spread ability of the butter, how easily it melted onto toast and the nice buttery flavour. We used it in several different scenarios (sandwiches, toast, cooking, frying and baking) to get a proper 'feel' for it and it excelled in all of them
• The taste was what you would expect from a butter without feeling like it was overly processed
• I wouldn't choose New Flora Original over other margarine and/or butter brands because it wasn't as flavourful as the 'buttery' version we've got used to
• Yes I would you recommend Flora Original to friends or family as it tasted nice, was great when used on toast and in cooking and was very easy to spread straight from the fridge

We liked how easily spreadable it is, it tastes very nice on toast.

We had it in rolls, sandwiches and on toast. No complaints to any.

yes i would. we follow a vegetarian diet so this being vegan makes it easier for us as a family when shopping for items- it tastes great also

We all loved it, I love that I can keep it in the fridge and that I can take it out and spread it straight away. The taste is also very good.

I usually buy the flora buttery spread and I think that they are very similar, so yes, I would swap in between the 2 if needed.

It's OK but not an alternative to butter. It's very good for a vegan product.

Almost, if it were just a bit more buttery then it would be our new fave.

The colour, texture and spreadability were good.

We left it out of the fridge and the taste changed, it went a little sour. On closer inspection it does say to eep it in the fridge but the writing is tiny and I really had to look for it. It's still edible but we're now just using it up so as not to waste it.

I probably wouldn't as it's not as satisfying as real butter and you can't leave it out of the fridge. In our busy house that often just isn't practical.

Not partcularly, unless they were trying to follow a vegan lifestyle.

Overall I was very satisfied with flora original we use I can’t believe it’s not butter but u changed us and now I will only be buying flora it is healthy to.is flora a brand you can trust.yes it definitely is and the only brand for me from now on. It did take us a while to get used to as we as a family have been using flora buttery for the last few months.
Myself and DD enjoyed the taste. Initially DH thought it was oily in taste and texture, but has got used to it now and is happy to keep using it and quite likes it.

I liked the taste and now DH is used to it he likes it too.

Yes I would definitely keep using flora now as it it a healthier option to other spreads.

Yes I would recommend to friends and family because of the reasons above, a healthier option to other alternatives. And the taste of course.

I liked the taste, we used it on toast and baked potatoes etc and we fancied some buns so I made a small batch of chocolate ones and they turned out very nice. The packaging looks good. There wasn’t anything I didn't like.

Yes I liked it - we all did.

Yes I will choose it in the future, it’s reasonably priced, it’s versatile and we all enjoyed the taste.

Yes I would. Especially to those trying to eat a better or healthier diet.

It tastes ok, not a patch on real butter but it wasn’t as tasteless as some other spreads. It spreads well which is great as nobody likes tearing their bread apart when trying to butter it!

• Did you like the taste of New Flora Original? How did your family like the taste of New Flora Original? It was ok, the kids don’t really take much notice of what their butter/spread tastes like. It tasted ok but I prefer the taste of real butter

I probably wouldn’t choose it over real butter to be honest, I think real butter is much better for you health wise as it doesn’t contain any trans fats

Pleasantly surprised as it didn't have such a strong margerine taste that alot of others do have and found it to be more buttery but still spreadable.

Yes as have known the brand from its original Flora days and has been around for a long time!

Yes I would say so as its a healthier option and I found it to be more versatile.

I Loved that this is plant based and didn't have a strong margerine taste. The family preferred the taste of this than my current spread. It was buttery and could be used straight from the fridge. I Used it to make banana muffins and it was excellent for baking, cooked with this on the hob to brown onions for a casserole, used it for pack lunches and buttering sandwiches and was fine on toast for breakfast! Everyone seemed to enjoy using the New flora and no complaints.

Yes, More buttery and less margerine in taste. It was liked by the family.

I would now swap to this from my current brand as its a much healthier option for all the family but this would be dependant on price. I would like to see some larger size options.

Yes its healthy, plant based, versatile and tastes good. Excellent option if you have health/dietry issues or if you just want to improve what your putting into your body and generally eat healthier!

• What did you like or dislike about new Flora Original? What did your family like or dislike? We liked the natural butter taste and that it was plant based rather than containing preservatives etc. There isn’t anything we didn’t like,

I will definitely buy this again when it has run out as I feel it is a healthier more natural alternative to other spreads and it tastes very nice. Plus it has worked well as an alternative to butter in baking and has less saturated fat.
• Would you recommend Flora Original to friends or family? Please explain why or why not. I would recommend based on it being a plant based spread rather than containing lots of unnatural things. And obviously that it has a nice buttery taste

Tastes great, much better than other spreads. Not the same as butter, but a lot healthier.

Yes. Have gone off Clover and ICBINB as the flavour seems to have changed.

Yes it is. My dad has the pro active version and they do light spreads as well.

DS happily ate this. My husband thought it tasted ok for a spread (but he prefers real butter anyway). I thought it tasted good, not overpowering or too artificial. I thought the packaging was a bit plain with all the white in it.

I would happily have it. DH prefers a more buttery taste though.

Was easy to spread straight from the fridge even on really soft rolls. Also put to the test and did some baking and butter icing and worked and tastes great.

We were very satisfied, I was surprised at how good it tasted, and it felt quite buttery which was great

I really like the taste of it, it felt buttery which was great. I also really like that it is plant based. Big winner in my view. I was a but uncertain about how it felt to butter on bread, however it did spread fairly easily.

Yes, we all liked it. I think as it tasted buttery, it was good, but plant based so brilliant!

I would do, however it does need to be a more competitive price to other brands e.g we use vitalite. I would say the taste I said better however the cost was double.

I didnt like it when making cheese sauce over real butter, it became quite oily.

Myself and my family really enjoyed the new flora original. The children had sandwiches and I used 250g in a cake instead of butter and the cake turned out great. A big thumbs up from myself and the family.

We love flora brand we usually go for flora buttery but this new flora original comes in a very close preferred option.

Definitely from cakes to sandwiches flora meets all our needs.

We prefer the flora buttery just because the taste is more buttery but no major dislikes here.

My family enjoyed the taste it will be our 2nd option as we love the taste of flora buttery.

Our 1st option is flora buttery just because of the added taste but if that is not available that the original will definitely be the next option.

Definitely it meets all my family needs and we don’t have any negative statements at all. A great all rounder.

We were all really satisfied with the new Flora original. I wasn't expecting to like it to be honest as I haven't tasted it since the 80's at my Grandmas. It was lovely!

Yes it is now. I would certainly buy this brand again.

I quite like butter on toast but I buy margarine too - for baking and every day use. The Flora tasted fresh and creamy - not at all plasticky like I remember form years ago.

We all liked it a lot - it tasted natural and buttery.

I tend to buy own brand margarine on the grounds of price but I would buy this in the future especially if it was on offer. Before this trial I wouldn't have given it a second glance in the supermarket as I thought it was yucky.

Overall very satisfied, nothing to dislike. We all liked the taste. I would absolutely recommend to family and friends and have done so already. My reasons to recommend were lovely buttery taste, spreadable even from cold, fab for baking and general use. Just fab. Would choose new flora original if at a competitive price. Spread lovely even straight from fridge. Flora is definitely a brand to trust.
