This is the feedback thread for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried two of AEG’s new washing machines and one of their tumble dryers!

There is also a question for non-testers - see bottom of the post!

Here’s what AEG has to say about each of the products:

PRO STEAM WASHING MACHINE
"Introducing the sharp shirt protector: Maintaining your professional look day to day should be effortless. Our ProSteam® Technology means that your shirts look sharp for longer by enabling you to reduce creases by up to one third. Cutting down on dry-cleaning and ironing means less wear on fibres. Keeping your clothes looking and feeling impeccable, every day.

SOFT WATER WASHING MACHINE
It’s the little black dress guardian: Imagine a washing machine that you can trust to keep your colours as vibrant and blacks as bold as the day you bought them. At last, there is no need to compromise performance for care. Because for the first time ever, you’ll achieve the thorough clean of a 60-degree wash at just 30 degrees. Maintaining the colour, shape and feel of every garment. Wash after wash. It’s more than a washing machine. It’s the guardian of your clothes.

ABSOLUTECARE TUMBLE DRYER
It’s the wool sweater guardian: Now you can tumble dry everything you wash. From the softest wool sweater to an everyday business shirt or ski jacket. Dryers with the AbsoluteCare® System have tailored programming to precisely control the movement and temperature of the drying cycle. Preventing shrinkage. Maintaining shape. Restoring waterproofing. Redefining tumble drying for every fabric in your wardrobe. Comparable with flat drying of wool.”

non-tester with a cheap basic machine, I woild love one with a speedy quick wash

WinnerWinnerChickenDinner0 · 22/11/2017 18:48

Love the digital display that tells how long is left on a wash. Means I don’t have to pop out every 5 mins to see if it’s finished yet

Quick wash! Life saver for those "forgotten to put in machine but need right now" items!!

TESTER: ProSteam washer: L7FEE945R

Unfortunately I only received delivery of my washing machine a few days ago as Kaboodle didn't turn up the first day we'd arranged and I then had to wait another week. Thought I'd better leave my review now though even though I haven't had chance to try out all the bells & whistles yet...

  • Did you use the “steam refresh” programme in your Pro-Steam washing machine? Did you notice a difference in level of creasing?

No I haven't had a suitable load of washing to try this on yet. Pretty much all our washing goes straight into the tumble drier after it comes out the washing machine so I'm not sure whether the value of the steam cycle will then be lost anyway.

  • What benefits do you find in the ProSteam programme?

Like the possibility of being able to put something that needs ironing but not washing in on the steam programme then hanging it up and hopefully getting away without ironing. Also useful for refreshing dry clean only items, although I've now read that anything that says 'do not tumble dry' shouldn't be put in on this cycle so limits the items it could be used for. Most of our washloads have at least one do not tumble dry item in them too, so not sure how often we'd use the steam programme.

  • What did you think about the steamwash programme?

Haven't yet had chance to try this, as above.

  • What are your thoughts on the texture and softness of your clothes from using an AEG machine?

I haven't noticed any difference in the three loads I've done (bedding, toddler's clothes and a quick 20 min cycle with my clothes toddler had just flicked his yoghurt over)

  • Have you noticed a difference in the softness and freshness of your clothes with the SoftPlus option?

I don't use fabric softener so haven't used this cycle as only seems relevant if you do.

General Feedback:

The size of the drum is HUGE! As the footprint of the machine isn't much bigger than my old 6kg machine this is brilliant - DH said it was like the Tardis! Having got a big load of washing ready for the first try though I was disappointed that the synthetics cycle was only 4kg and there were very few programmes that would take 9kg (even though I did then read you can ignore the overloaded message and choose to run the programme anyway). I put my first load onto the Cottons cycle and was gobsmacked at the length of the programme - over 3 hours!

Second load was bedding and I thought I'd use the anti-allergy setting as our dog sleeps on the bed and thought it'd be good to give it a thorough wash. Again this was almost 3 hours, but I expected it on a hotter wash. I really look forward to getting into bed with freshly washed bedding but something was different after this wash - it didn't have that freshly washed smell. I then realised that this was due to the 'anti allergy' cycle which says it does an extra rinse to wash away all the detergent residue. As I'm not allergic to the detergent it was the smell I missed, but I'm impressed that it obviously does do what it says so will hopefully be beneficial to those who do have allergies.

Delivery: I only ever had calls from mobile numbers to arrange delivery. At no point did they tell me what company they were from (until I later asked) and I then didn't know who to call at 6pm on the agreed date when it didn't turn up. Managed to get replies via text apologising and was then re-arranged the following week. When the delivery was actually made, it was very efficient.

Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to try this new machine, and I'm looking forward to trying out more of the features.

ThePug · 22/11/2017 21:13

Oh, also meant to say the 20 minute quick cycle (which when I increased temperature to 40deg was actually 30 mins) was impressive - I put in my jeans and jumper toddler had splattered his yoghurt all over and as I didn't have a full load thought I'd try the quick cycle; came out absolutely spotless so think I'll try to use shorter cycles in future.

Non tester. The hand wash program.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 23/11/2017 01:48

Non-tester. The Time Saver (quick wash) function on our machine has saved my family from the pain of going pantless/PE kitless/trouser free on FAR too many occasions to ever contemplate life without it!

The quick wash function is a lifesaver at times!!

mooota1514 · 23/11/2017 13:36

I couldn’t live without the easy wash setting. I’m so lazy so I stick everything on the same setting and it all comes out fine.

andywedge · 23/11/2017 13:39

The AbsoluteCare dryer

AngelwingsPetlamb · 23/11/2017 13:41

Non tester - well my first thought was ‘the spin cycle ! ‘ because who could manage without the washing being spun as dry as possible ?, but I really appreciate the wool and silk wash cycles so I don’t need to hand wash anymore.

LadyinCement · 23/11/2017 13:45

1600 spin. Not having a sunny, windy garden I need all the help I can get in drying clothes - and towels even more so.

Sezza110 · 23/11/2017 13:50

Non tester: the quick wash which is 30 minutes

tabbaz123 · 23/11/2017 13:53

Non-Tester - Quick Wash
Having the ability to do a quick wash really has saved the day more than once. Love being able to freshen up clothing on a quick wash cycle too

AuFinch · 23/11/2017 13:53

The intensive setting - my man is self employed so i wash all his work gear and its literally coated in mud, oil, sweat, engine grease, paint and "workshop dirty dust" - which is dust but not as you know it, the kind that if you touch his work jeans then rub your fingertips together you need a glug of washing up liquid to clean them!

That intensive setting really breaks up the grime and actually has probably saved me a fortune in buying jeans because i used to have buy loads more before i got the washer we have now.

lizd31 · 23/11/2017 13:56

I love the 15 minute quick wash for lightly soiled items

glennamy · 23/11/2017 14:00

Non tester: I couldn't live without my super rinse option as it makes drying time that much quicker. :)

The quick wash is very handy.

I'd miss the rinse function, I always find clothes are a bit more awkward to wear when the soap hasn't been rinsed out, sticky etc.

I couldn't do without the quick wash - 30 minutes compared to over an hour for some of the other cycles.

I couldn't live without the delay start timer on my machine. It is great to set early in the morning so I can get up and hang my washing out first thing!

footdust · 23/11/2017 14:14

The timer delay - can set the machine to start running in the cheapest tariff time.

sunshinewey · 23/11/2017 14:16

In my house it would be the sports wash cycle, I have three boys and lots of smelly trainers!
