This is the feedback thread for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried two of AEG’s new washing machines and one of their tumble dryers!

There is also a question for non-testers - see bottom of the post!

Here’s what AEG has to say about each of the products:

PRO STEAM WASHING MACHINE
"Introducing the sharp shirt protector: Maintaining your professional look day to day should be effortless. Our ProSteam® Technology means that your shirts look sharp for longer by enabling you to reduce creases by up to one third. Cutting down on dry-cleaning and ironing means less wear on fibres. Keeping your clothes looking and feeling impeccable, every day.

SOFT WATER WASHING MACHINE
It’s the little black dress guardian: Imagine a washing machine that you can trust to keep your colours as vibrant and blacks as bold as the day you bought them. At last, there is no need to compromise performance for care. Because for the first time ever, you’ll achieve the thorough clean of a 60-degree wash at just 30 degrees. Maintaining the colour, shape and feel of every garment. Wash after wash. It’s more than a washing machine. It’s the guardian of your clothes.

ABSOLUTECARE TUMBLE DRYER
It’s the wool sweater guardian: Now you can tumble dry everything you wash. From the softest wool sweater to an everyday business shirt or ski jacket. Dryers with the AbsoluteCare® System have tailored programming to precisely control the movement and temperature of the drying cycle. Preventing shrinkage. Maintaining shape. Restoring waterproofing. Redefining tumble drying for every fabric in your wardrobe. Comparable with flat drying of wool.”

I have 2 favourite functions on our washing machine. The first being the 15 minutes wash for when OH realises he has forgotten to put all our work stuff to wash.

And the second is the child lock feature- DS is obsessed with the washing machine in it's entirety, from trying to climb in; to pushing every button and spinning the dials.

Florin · 08/11/2017 09:52

What were your first impressions of the AEG product you tested?
Firstly the men from Kaboodle who delivered it and installed it were brilliant. They kept me updated on their arrival, were extremely polite and took my old washing machine out and put the new one in which included drilling a new hole which was so helpful as my husband has a broken arm so couldn’t have done it.
The washing machine looks so sleek and modern. I love the touch screen.
It is also so quiet, I keep checking to see if it’s on!

ProSteam washer: L7FEE945R

  • Did you use the “steam refresh” programme in your Pro-Steam washing machine? Did you notice a difference in level of creasing?
On Sunday my 5 year old had a party that he was super excited about. It was a disco party and he super excitedly went upstairs to plan his outfit. He brought down a pair of chinos and a t shirt but they had got shoved in the back of his drawers and were really creased. I couldn’t be bothered to get the iron out so thought it was the ideal time to try out the feature. I put the items in and they came out perfectly and only slightly damp, I hung them up on hangers and within half an hour they were ready to wear, it was amazing, dh and I were open mouthed and ds was happy he could wear the outfit he picked out. I adore this feature, dh wants to try putting his suit in next.
  • What benefits do you find in the ProSteam Programme?

It’s brilliant clothes are softer with significant less creases

  • What did you think about the steamwash Programme?

It’s great we tried washing our Egyptian Cotton sheets which always look creased as I hate ironing them. Did them with the steam wash programme and they are a million times better I am over the moon with it and save me struggling to iron king size sheets. I also washed my sons shirts with it and I can get away with not ironing them.

  • What are your thoughts on the texture and softness of your clothes from using an AEG machine?
They come out softer than my other washing machine
  • Have you noticed a difference in the softness and freshness of your clothes with the SoftPlus option?

Yes much softer and fresher, I love this machine!

The best feature on my washing machine which I couldnt live without is the function that allows me to set a timer for the machine to start upto 24hrs after I press go.
My autistic daughter hates the sound of the washer, so I can set it up before I go to bed and the washer kicks in at 3am when everyone is fast asleep and we get no melt downs

I have two that I couldn't deal without.

  1. Childlock! I've realised, after forgetting a few times, that childlock is a necessity to have a full program run on the washing machine 😂
  1. Delayed wash. This means I can delay the wash until I'm mentally ready to put them in the dryer or hang them, knowing that the next step will be ironing, folding and putting away 😣 (washing is not my fave household chore 😂)
CopperPan · 08/11/2017 12:36

Tester - Pro-Steam washing machine.

  • What were your first impressions of the AEG product you tested?
The delivery and installation went really smoothly and I was shown how to operate the machine. I was impressed by the size and capacity - it wasn't any wider than my old machine, but just a bit deeper and it could fit a much larger load in. The control panel felt very hi-tech.
  • Did you use the “steam refresh” programme in your Pro-Steam washing machine? Did you notice a difference in level of creasing?

Yes, I've used it for most washes now. We tend not to iron clothes anyway if we can avoid it, but with things like shirts it can be unavoidable. But with the steam refresh programme there was much less creasing. We just shake out the clothes and pull them a bit whilst still damp, then hang them up to dry.

  • What benefits do you find in the ProSteam programme?
The clothes are much less creased and I also think it's gentler on the clothes. Over time I think there will be less wear/bobbling.
  • What did you think about the steamwash programme?
This was great for sheets and towels as I think it results in less creases and helps prevent musty smells.
  • What are your thoughts on the texture and softness of your clothes from using an AEG machine?

The clothes were softer and smoother as they weren't agitated as much. It will help them last longer.

  • Have you noticed a difference in the softness and freshness of your clothes with the SoftPlus option?
Yes, particularly for the dc's clothes, it makes them much softer to the touch.

Thank you Mumsnet for the opportunity to try out this machine - we are really happy with it!

Hmumto3 · 08/11/2017 12:46

Non tester - could not live without the crease care feature can't always iron everything so it's nice some clothes come out the wash and do not need to be ironed

WonderLime · 09/11/2017 00:10

Non tester - the delay setting! Honestly, I don’t know how I managed with a washing machine without it!

Pikmin · 09/11/2017 13:56

Non tester- again its the quick wash, and also the tub clean setting. I like that mine plays a little happy tune when it has finished!

MaximaDeWit · 09/11/2017 18:27

The feature on my washing machine I couldn’t live without is the Super Quick cycle.** A lot of the washing I do is kids stuff which needs a proper wash but there are always things of mine and DH’s that just need a quick clean after a few hours wear and this way I can chuck these all in together and fit them in in between regular washes

Whowhatwhy · 09/11/2017 19:24

I agree with others that the quick cycle is the most useful thing for those moments when one child or the other has a PE kit emergency (happens ridiculously often in our house!)

Quietvoiceplease · 10/11/2017 06:51

Best feature is actually two: the rapid wash function (my Bosch machine has a speed setting which is great); and the timer which tells me how long the cycle has left to run.

Falconhoof1 · 10/11/2017 08:13

Non tester- quick wash is brilliant!

ladygoingGaga · 10/11/2017 12:46

What are your thoughts on the texture and softness of your clothes from using an AEG machine?
One word can be used, and that is fluffy. The clothes come out wonderfully soft. The towels came out looking fluffy as though they were new.
The DC’s school jumpers and hoodies all came out beautifully, and the fact they remarked on how soft they felt is astonishing.

  • Have you noticed a difference in the drying results, did you experience even drying across the load?

The dryer has been used every day, most are mixed loads, of school uniform, sports kit and work wear including jumpers. I have been pleasantly surprised that it has dried so evenly, only one bulky hoodie had to be put back in on its own for a few more minutes, but everything else has come out lovely.

  • While using the Absolute Care Tumble Dryer, did you dry your woolen or outdoor clothes with the specific programmes? Were you satisfied with the result?

I have tried the outdoor setting for walking trousers and coats all of which I have worn since and they have retained thei waterproof ability.
I would never have put them in my old dryer for fear of losing the waterproof coating.

The woollen setting has been gentle, I dried several together and they have not shrunk and came out fluffy.

  • How would you compare your experience with the previous tumble dryer you had?

I am amazed at how far technology has come, this has far more intelligent settings that reflect our family life.
The programmes are so easy to use, and I love the fact it is so quiet, I used to dread putting the old drier on in the evening as it meant the television had to be on loud.

  • On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being “very likely”, how likely are you to recommend your AEG appliance to a friend?

A superb 10

  • Do you find the machine user-friendly? Is it quiet and easy to use?

Very easy to use and amazingly quiet, ours is not far from the front room and certainly in quiet mode i forget it is on.

  • How would you compare the energy-efficiency of this machine to your previous machine

It isn’t the most efficient item in our household, which the kids keep reminding me of as they use it every evening.

30min wash cycle - we have to do a wash most days and there’s no way I’d have time for a full wash everyday (over 2 hours!)

TESTER: SOFTWATER WASHING MACHINE

Thank you so much for picking me and sorry for delay in posting the email - it went into my junk folder! Was wondering where the email was and did a search and found it had come me Monday!! Will do proper review tomorrow when I can spend time on it and do it properly and not rush it! Hope that’s ok!

lunar1 · 10/11/2017 19:45

None tester, but I have the AEG dryer from the last test. I absolutely couldn’t live without the steam refresh. It’s saved me an absolute fortune on my children’s dry clean only school blazers!

I love the large capacity drum on my machine and weirdly I also love the little tinkly tune it plays when it has finished its cycle as it means I don’t forget to unload it!

My washing machine (Hotpoint) stpped working almost a year ago, so I have to use the launderette at the moment. Will replace at some point! Therefore, most important feature for me is reliability! I'm tempted to think that all washing machines are basically the same, but this review is swaying me! Especially the 'Softwater'. My dad was an electronics engineer many years ago and always rated AEG very highly so when I get round to replacing, I may well give one a go, they sound really well thought out.

Butterfly1975 · 11/11/2017 12:59

My machine is pretty rubbish but refuses to give up on me so no issues with reliability!

I really want a machine that can cope with washing at low temperatures without splurging all that manky brown gunge all over the clothes! Doesn't matter how much I clean and descale my machine, it spoils every 30 degree wash I do

non-tester can’t live without the quick wash setting! Very rare I do a full wash.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 11/11/2017 21:15

Quick wash is a favourite in this house, perfect for spills or those last minute "oh I forgot, I need to go to school in my PE kit tomorrow..." at 9pm, has saved me from many long evenings using toothpicks to keep my eyes open while waiting for a wash load to finish

tethersend · 12/11/2017 18:08

What were your first impressions of the AEG product you tested?

That this tumble dryer is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me. Sorry kids.

AbsoluteCare dryer: T8DEC946R

  • What are your thoughts on the texture and softness of your clothes from using an AEG machine?

They make me want to roll around in them rather than wear them. Amazing.

Everything is dry when I take it out, with the exception of a heavy jersey double layered dress which I probably shouldn't have put in there in the first place.

Have used the wool setting, very happy with the result.

  • How would you compare your experience with the previous tumble dryer you had?
