Miele WMH120WPS Washing Machine Review Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 26/01/2015 12:32

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele WMH120WPS washing machine.

Here's what Miele say, "With Miele’s exclusive Quick PowerWash, you benefit from a full A-rated wash in under an hour, getting the laundry done in record time. Better still, this large-capacity machine manages this whilst boasting an A+++ energy rating and being quieter than other models in this range.
The clever TwinDos system, automatically dispenses either Miele detergents or your preferred brand of liquid detergent and fabric conditioner for up to three months between refills. The WMH 120 WPS determines the best moment to release these during the cycle, meaning that each wash is tailored to that particular load, for the best results each time."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your washing machine.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Will do this once back in the land of proper computer rather than on mobile phone.

  • How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?
I love this machine! What at first seemed to be a rather daunting machine has actually proved to be very user friendly. Clothes are clean, bright and smell lovely. The washing machine looks good and with the non recessed door and mainly flush controls it is easy to keep clean.
  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?
The large capacity drum is fantastic. At first I kept weighing the washing as I was worried about overloading it and couldn't believe how much I was fitting in. I am able to get the laundry done in fewer loads which is saving both time and money. The ability to fine tune the programmes to suit your wash load perfectly is also great. At first I thought that most of the programmes would be a bit of a gimmick and wouldn't get used but they do.
  • What did you think of TwinDos feature?
Love the TwinDos feature. No more clogged detergent drawer or sprinkles of washing powder on the floor and worktops. I love that it monitors the dosage and lets you know if you need to reduce the amount. My only criticism is that it is easy to forget to set the machine going with out selecting the TwinDos. It would be helpful if the TwinDos was either set as the default option or if there was a warning if you try to start the machine without selecting either TwinDos or the cap system.
  • How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?
The detergents are fabulous and smell lovely. They have removed grease stains from a tablecloth which my previous machine/detergents didn't manage to.
  • Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, would definitely recommend (in fact already have done!) This is a quality machine which will hopefully last for many years. Thank you so much Mumsnet and Miele for choosing me for this product test!

I love this machine! I washed a favourite top that I've been holding on to as I couldn't bear to throw it away - silky with a big grease stain on the front that no amount of washing in my last machine would remove. You guessed it - it's gone!!! Hooray Grin

Will be back later to write proper second review but needed to share the joy!!

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?
Amazing, the clothes are really clean, the washing liquid is not causing any issues with my family's sensitive skin (which so many other liquids do), its quiet and has an abundance of options. I've been really impressed and whilst i wouldn't have previously considered spending this much money on a kitchen appliance i think i'd seriously consider it in the future. The product is pure quality.

  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?
I've been impressed with the array of choice but the ability to tweak the settings to suit the load is great. I was really impressed with the 20 min quick wash, i put DD2's baseball jacket on this one at 30oC (it has cream arms and a burgundy Body), not only did the colours not run at all but the cream sleeves were so clean, in only 20 mins which is great as i hadn't wanted to risk it in a whites loads (in case the burgundy leaked) or with the brights (in case the cream sleeves were discoloured). DD is happy as it can get clean quick.
  • What did you think of TwinDos feature?
Great, as mentioned above it hasn't effected my daughters really sensitive skin, i have used either the extra rinse setting or allergo setting but with my old machine any change in powder resulted in a an allergy rash. It would be good it if defaulted to the twindos as i forgot to select it a few times and had to restart the machine.

As above, really impressed and think we will continue to purchase them, i've not strayed from non-bio powder and sensitive fabric conditioner due to DD2's sensitive skin but risked it for he product test and am so glad i did. Not sure if it's the liquid being less allergenic or if the machine just rinses better but its great.

  • Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, although its pricey, but its well worth the money. I think i will sea money in the long run because i think previous clothes which i've thrown away due to staining would be cleaned by this machine.

We have loved this machine and as a result we are considering a miele dishwasher when our current one dies, the build quality and efficiency of this washing machine has won us over to this brand. Thank you

- How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?
Great, I really love it. Everything has come out lovely and clean and it's so quiet I barely notice it being on.

- Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?
The number of options you can choose from. Admittedly it wasn't immediately the most intuitive to use but now I've got the hang of it I can fly through the options. The 20 min wash is great for work clothes etc that really just need a refresh.

- What did you think of TwinDos feature?
I really like it and I'll admit to being sceptical about this feature as it's not really much work to chuck detergent in when you pop on laundry. However, it's really convenient and keeps the utility room nice and clean. I wouldn't buy a machine just because of it but it's a nice feature.

I found the clothes to be lovely and soft with a really nice smell. My husband has bad eczema and has had no issues from changing to the Miele detergent. I've also noted that some clothes with 'permanent' stains have finally come out spotless.

Absolutely this machine is clearly a quality piece of kit, it's so quiet and the results quite frankly are amazing. I've taken out a 10 year warranty so when you consider that I was on my third cheaper machine in that time it makes stretching the extra mile for a Miele a sensible option.

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?

It's just a joy to use, if washing can ever be described as a joy! My grandmother apparently used to say how utterly miserable wash-day made her. I was looking at her battered old 1923 Mrs Beeton the other day and saw an advert for the most technologically advanced washing machine money could buy back then. It had to be plugged it into a light socket! How far have we come since?? Even the machine we bought five years ago and replaced with the Miele seems so old-fashioned in comparison. The quality of washing is light-years ahead and so much quicker and quieter.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?

Firstly, the reduction in the need for ironing! We absolutely hate doing ironing & avoid it unless absolutely necessary. DH's shirts were creased and stiff when they came out of our (very basic) old machine, now with the Miele shirt function they're barely creased when they come out and apparently much softer to the skin. Likewise denim; they still come out a wee bit creased, but not stiff at all.

The 20-minute speed wash is a godsend. There's invariably something that gets forgotten but is desperately needed at short notice. Brilliant.

And the machine is unbelievably quiet. The last one on spin sounded like an earthquake was taking place in the middle of a thunderstorm. With this one you can have a phone conversation at normal levels standing by the machine during the spin-cycle.

What did you think of TwinDos feature?

It's brilliant; I tend to be a bit cavalier with dosage when using detergent/conditioner from bottles, so having the machine decide for you is great (and probably more economical in the long-run!).

Just a couple of points/suggestions:
The machine could really do with a prompt to choose one of the detergent options, as you (well, I!) can easily forget while the 'start' button is flashing at you and end up running washes without any detergent at all.

We've looked through the instructions for a way to check how much detergent is remaining, but couldn't find this. We presume there'll be a message flash up, but don't know how much notice you get! An option to proactively check would be great, so users aren't caught short.

These are very good indeed. The washing smells good but not overpoweringly so.
Washing has come out noticeably cleaner. You can choose the stain-level on the washing options and it works; a bunch of wine-stained napkins came out pristine. No need for soaking in special stain-removers. The old machine could never have done that.

Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Well I have been waxing lyrical to all and sundry about it, so yes! The machine certainly presents a financial outlay we'd never previously have considered, but having been lucky enough to be selected to test (thank you!) we'd say yes, it's worth every penny. I don't think we'd have felt shortchanged if we had bought it. The technological standards, wide range of washing options, lack of noise, really high standard of washing & (from what I'm led to believe) customer support mean it should be worth every penny.

Bob- my ultra phase 1 detergent ran out last week. There was no prior warning it just flashed up that it was empty when I went to put a wash on.

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?

Fantastic! I love it, it is easily the best washing machine I have ever used. My Miele experience overall has been second to none, delivery as expected, friendly informative delivery guys who explained the product to me in great detail and ensured I was happy before they left. And the best bit, the best washing machine I have ever used and happy clean clothes!!

Is there anything particular about the Miele washing machine that impressed you?

The wash programmes are fantastic, my kids went to a country park last week and my youngest fell flat into mud, her jeans were sodden with it. I thought I would have to give it two washes at least but no, I was able to refer to the booklet and find the best wash programme for it. They came out sparking and I was seriously impressed. I am loving the 20 min express wash especially for school uniform that's seems to get dirty on a daily basis, it also doesn't compromise on the cleanliness.

What did you think of the Twindos feature?

I love this and use it often. The bleach solution for whites is getting my whites sparkling and has also rejuvenated some greying t shirts. I love not having to mess around with powder and the gunking up of the drawer, I also think it is genius that Twindos can sense how much detergent you need for each wash which saves on waste. I have used the machine a lot this month and I have only just got the message to say it is running low so I feel it is good value too.

How did you find the Miele detergents?

I prefer them to the standard branded ones I used before. The smell is clean but not overpowering, you don't need to add fabric softener, even for towels as there is the fluffiness programme, which saves money. They also haven't bought my youngest up in excema which happened randomly with other brands. And the machine gives you plenty of warning when your running low! What's not to like?

Did you notice any improvement in washing results?

Yes a massive difference. Whether this is down to build quality, tailored programming, quality detergents or a mixture of all I don't know.

Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If not why not?

Absolutely, all who have seen it are very envious and would love one for themselves. This washing machine has made me realise that actually sometimes things are more expensive for a good reason and your not always "paying for a name". I am a Miele convert and will now recommend their appliances as there really is a huge difference in the build quality/technology/wash results with this washing machine and I feel it is worth every penny.
