Miele WMH120WPS Washing Machine Review Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 26/01/2015 12:32

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele WMH120WPS washing machine.

Here's what Miele say, "With Miele’s exclusive Quick PowerWash, you benefit from a full A-rated wash in under an hour, getting the laundry done in record time. Better still, this large-capacity machine manages this whilst boasting an A+++ energy rating and being quieter than other models in this range.
The clever TwinDos system, automatically dispenses either Miele detergents or your preferred brand of liquid detergent and fabric conditioner for up to three months between refills. The WMH 120 WPS determines the best moment to release these during the cycle, meaning that each wash is tailored to that particular load, for the best results each time."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your washing machine.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Is it the short or quick wash function?

If i use the quick wash then its 1 hour, but i find i have to put it on an extra rinse and spin which is an extra 27 mins

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 31/01/2015 06:52

Counting we're in a new build too and have no issues - granted I'm only a week in. Will keep an eye out for any increase but at the moment it's very quiet.

CountingThePennies · 31/01/2015 09:55

Have

What is your flooring made of?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 31/01/2015 14:50

Just chipboard as far as I know, definitely not concrete.

bobthebuddha · 31/01/2015 20:01

Well, I am chuffed to be bits to be testing this out. Our £250 5-year-old Zanussi had done its duty but it was unbelievably noisy on spin, the cycles took ages and washing often came out still stained. The Miele is whole galaxies apart!

What were your impressions from the first few uses?

I didn't get to use it the first few times! DH was in when it arrived and being a gadget-lover & someone who eats product-manuals for breakfast hogged it immediately. I swear he's done more washing in 2 days than in the last 5 years!

It's taken me a bit of fiddling around to get used to things and the fact that there are so many options, but I'm getting the hang of it. It's real 21st-century stuff & just so GOOD.

So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

DH washed his parka (quite grubby and shiny around the cuffs) & it came out good-as-new. Then he did some jeans and they came out well too, hardly a crease and far less stiff than with the old machine.

The shirt-wash I'm not sure about yet - they came out quite damp so I'm wondering if the auto-level on the spin cycle was too low or I'd done something wrong with the settings. One to keep testing.

DS went paintballing during the week & his trousers were covered with mud and paint. All gone on the sports cycle with heavy staining option chosen.

Washing is coming out smelling good (not overpoweringly so) and nice and soft. The nice chaps who fitted it said there are special settings for making your towels super-fluffy so that is to be tested out!

The one-hour setting is a total boon and seems to have worked well on a big batch of school uniform. Seems to have taken less time to tumble-dry than usual too.

We like the multiple options for detergent/fabric conditioner. The twin dos is brilliant, no fiddling around with dosages and bottles standing around. The fact that there are empties you can fill yourself is great, as is the old-style drawer for adding your own. Will be interested to see how long the ones it came with will last us.

The machine is incredibly quiet, even on a high-level spin. My tumble dryer drives me insane (and wakes children) with its incessant beeping on completion, but this does a quiet couple of beeps when its finished then shuts up.

Ease of use is pretty good. I'm having to do a bit of fiddling around but getting used to things fairly quickly.

Great first impressions...

soremummy · 31/01/2015 21:04

Oh what's the setting for making towels super fluffy?? Was it the pre ironing one of something cos that puts steam in to the machine I think

bobthebuddha · 31/01/2015 21:32

Good question, soremummy! Hopefully DH has it stored in his brain from the installer's talk-through. Will report back unless someone else jumps in.

soremummy · 31/01/2015 21:51

Thanks. Just another question has anyone else found this has happened? School blouses over a yr old have inside back of collar /neck printed x & x girls ultimate non iron (or something very similar to that but ) but for some reason this has now come off in the wash was on power wash 40 degree as has a transfer on a towling hair wrap that was once a frozen character it's never happened with my old machine

VeganCow · 31/01/2015 23:35

I also want to know about fluffy towels setting bob !

Does anyone else add washing powder to the drawer as well as selecting dos, so that it used powder and the bottled detergent at the same time? I did it today and I swear I have never seen such a clean wash come out of a machine haha.

I am loving trying out the different settings and seeing the results.

The best result for me so far was when I decided yesterday to wash about 30 muslin cloths which are used for face cleansing and make up removal (hot cloth cleanser). I washed the lot, some of which were perfectly clean but had some old foundation staining on them. I wanted to do a direct comparison, with my old hotpoint, which had originally washed all of these cloths.
They came out white and perfect!

VeganCow · 31/01/2015 23:37

Sore mummy, are you saying that the printing on the label has faded, and that a transfer faded too, or the label and transfer fell off in the power wash?

soremummy · 01/02/2015 08:11

The transfer fell off. But even though these have been tumble dried before on high heat and ironed the hadn't come off

bobthebuddha · 01/02/2015 12:45

VeganCow, the installer told us not to use any powder, so no!

DH says you need to choose the Water Plus option for fluffy towels. Still to be tested! Smile

VeganCow · 01/02/2015 13:09

Hmm, maybe the drum action is more vigorous on this one which is why it came off?

Thanks bob, will try that!

VeganCow · 03/02/2015 15:04

I am loving the Miele. Have become a little obsessed, anyone else? Haha . Love trying out the different settings.

Am actually disappointed if there is not enough for a full wash!

The wash results are just perfect and there is nothing I would change about this washing machine.

soremummy · 04/02/2015 09:39

I'm trying out the stain removing option (fat) my not so dh got hand cream on the duvet cover this morning I'm waiting to see if it takes it out. I'm sort of hoping it doesn't as then he will be forced into going shopping and buying another one :-)

elvisola · 04/02/2015 09:49

The experiment with the Sports tab and DH 's stinky gym kit was a great success. It's never been so clean and the sweaty residual stale smell has completely gone. Very impressed with that.

I also noticed this morning that the non iron wording has disappeared from DD M&S school shirts since being washed in this machine which is a bit random.

Cleanbean · 04/02/2015 10:45

Does anyone else keep getting a message to check your detergent dosage? The first few washes I did it told me to do this so I reduced the dose a couple of times. It has been washing quite happily since then. However after both yesterday's wash and today's it wants me to reduce the dose. I'm going to be using barely any detergent soon!

I have just ordered some more Miele detergent though as they have a special offer on their website at the moment so have stocked up. I'm not sure if the impressive wash results are due to the machine or the detergent!

VeganCow · 04/02/2015 13:50

Clean wonder if its to do with your water type? Did you change the doseage amount in the settings right at the beginning? I did, cos am in a soft water area so need less detergent.

VeganCow · 04/02/2015 13:52

elvisola thats the exact smell I had lingering in an old tshirt, like an off, sweaty, musty smell. Its now gone thanks to the Miele, I mentioned it upthread.

Cleanbean · 04/02/2015 19:39

Vegan, I set the initial doses up for medium softness water then every time it told me to check dosage reduced the amount by 10% as per the instructions. It's then done lots of loads with no problem but the last two it has been unhappy with the dosage. I'm not sure what's changed though!

soremummy · 04/02/2015 19:43

That's strange re the non iron on school shirts I thought it was just me. I shouldn't moan really but I'm disappointed re the removing of grease/hand cream from duvet sadly I have to report that it completely removed all traces of the mark so I'm not getting new duvet cover but couldn't believe it got mark completely out and also put a grease stained tablecloth in that I have previously washed soaked pre treated with everything going couldn't believe it was so clean. I'm wondering if it's the machine or their liquid I had bought a really large bottle of normal liquid I use so will report when miele stuff runs out it will be interesting to see the results to compare

VeganCow · 04/02/2015 23:24

Clean, maybe give Miele a ring if reducing the dose doesn't work? They were helpful on the phone when I had a query.

Sore, yes I had considered whether it's the machine or the detergent and came to the conclusion that it's probably a combination of both, but would be interesting to do the same greasy duvet test with a different detergent.. You'll have to get dh to do whatever he was doing with the hand cream on the bed agin... Actually what was he doing?!

Katz · 05/02/2015 07:43

I have an exciting weekend of ploughing through the mountain of washing that has built up over the past few days. I'm going to actually wash clothes using the right conditions!! Will report back shortly.

VeganCow · 05/02/2015 09:28

katz have fun playing with the settings!

Miele detergent is on offer with 25% off on their website, 3 packs of the 2 bottles for £57 quid, so thats around a tenner each, but its free delivery. So if anyone wants the detergent, get it while its on offer?

I need to fill my 2 bottles with normal washing liquid and fabric softener and compare to the Miele stuff. Has anyone else done this yet? If so what did you put in the second one.

Thats a point, how does the machine know whether the second bottle has fabric softener in it or the stain stuff that Miele supplied?

soremummy · 05/02/2015 09:38

Vegan ha ha that would be telling. Actually he was putting it on dd hands. I'm sure I read in the book that it treats it as washing liquid and conditioner I will grab a coffee and have a read of book and report back
