Miele WMH120WPS Washing Machine Review Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 26/01/2015 12:32

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele WMH120WPS washing machine.

Here's what Miele say, "With Miele’s exclusive Quick PowerWash, you benefit from a full A-rated wash in under an hour, getting the laundry done in record time. Better still, this large-capacity machine manages this whilst boasting an A+++ energy rating and being quieter than other models in this range.
The clever TwinDos system, automatically dispenses either Miele detergents or your preferred brand of liquid detergent and fabric conditioner for up to three months between refills. The WMH 120 WPS determines the best moment to release these during the cycle, meaning that each wash is tailored to that particular load, for the best results each time."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your washing machine.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Vegan page 22/23 tells you about changing to use your own liquid etc Anyone else wondering if we would be allowed to take out the guarantee for the extra 8 yrs cover?

VeganCow · 05/02/2015 10:01

Thanks for that sore. Hmm wonder how much the extra guarantee would be?

soremummy · 05/02/2015 10:31

Was in leaflet with book not got it to hand but pay dd over 12 mths works out about £280 ish but your covered parts and labour for a full 10 years then

VeganCow · 05/02/2015 13:56

Have just spoken to Miele about the warranty. We get a free upgrade to 5 years, there is a form on the website to fill in here .

Where is says purchase price, put £1299 and where it says 'dealer' put Miele.
If anyone wants to upgrade it from the 5 years to 10 years, its £149, which is fantastic for parts and labour.

VeganCow · 05/02/2015 14:08

Also spoke to them about maintenance washes, think it was soremummy who had the 'hygiene' message coming up, well mine came up yesterday and today.
Apparently its a very complex machine and it can detect when it needs a maintenance wash from what type of washes we have been doing. So, I use low temperatures almost always so it knows that hygiene washes will be more frequent.
I currently have one running now. They are needed to dissolve body fat left in the machine which contribute to build up and smells. Using biological detergent and higher temps will reduce this.

Cleanbean · 06/02/2015 07:21

Vegan, thank you so much for letting us know about the warranty and maintenance wash. I think I may well take out the ten year guarantee. A total outlay of £149 for a top of the range machine that we will have for at least ten years sounds like good value to me!

soremummy · 06/02/2015 08:30

Thanks for info vegan. Your getting very friendly with them at miele ;-) that's a good deal for the guarantee

VeganCow · 06/02/2015 09:34

sore, ha ha yes I am, must say they they are very friendly on their helpline. It is a good deal with the guarantee.

I'm going to buy some liquid detergent and fabric softener today and try out the containers. Will buy the Aldi bio liquid, as I usually get their washing powder which is excellent.

Want to do a comparison with the supplied detergent and see if it's just as good.

soremummy · 06/02/2015 10:41

Would be interested to see what your results are vegan. Also did they tell you how to upgrade the guarantee and how long you have before you do it

VeganCow · 06/02/2015 12:41

Will let you know.
No they only told me about how to upgrade to the 5 years by filling in the online form, I found out about the £149 ten year bit when looking on their website so I don't know how we do this part or time scales.

ReluctantCamper · 06/02/2015 13:47

Thanks for the tip about the warrantee Vegan, I have done that. What a great deal!

I'm running low on detergent, so will buy some liquid detergent in Monday (Lidl). I'll be interested to see how it goes with that, too.

I had been a bit ungrateful, as this machine replaced a washer drier, and having wet washing all over the house was making me a bit grumpy. However, we've just bought a tumble drier, so now I can do 8kg of washing, followed by 8kg of drying. It's a bit sad, but it makes me very happy. I powered through laundry day yesterday!

I keep forgetting the fluffy towels tip, must remember next time I wash some.

elvisola · 06/02/2015 22:46

Thanks Vegan, just seen the warranty offer and upgraded.

Today the absolute best thing about this washing machine for me was the fact that I could wash DH's shirt in 20 minutes (because I forgot and realised he had no clean ones at 10.30 last night ) Just for that I will pay £1200 to replace it if it ever dies!

soremummy · 07/02/2015 19:31

Just discovered that you can do a cotton 30 degree wash with water plus 1600 spin and for those of you who might need this in the future it has worked great to remove the tissue that went all over dark wash load. Fleece hoodie school uniform black cardigan navy socks you get the picture

VeganCow · 08/02/2015 11:40

haha sore, I got a tissue all over black school trousers, jumper and blazer last weekend. I gave them a good clothes brush down once dry but it didn't get rid completey and that didn't go down too well on the monday morning!
I didn't think to do a water plus wash, sounds good!

elvis, yes, the 20 min wash is brilliant. The shortest one on my old washer was 35 minutes which often actually was nearer 45 minutes.

soremummy · 09/02/2015 20:41

Hygiene wash symbol again came up but I did log wash loads it's 16 washes. No wonder I get peeved off with the ironing! Look, like I will soon run out of washing liquid looks like about 1/4 left its hard to tell. So miele!!! Please don't advertise that it last up to 3 mths in a "normal" 2.2 children family it might but with my broad it's not even been a mth yet. I still have 12 days to go! I'm anxiously awaiting the next lot of questions as I've even logged down some pros and cons of the machine so far Hope everyone getting used to their machine x

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?
I found it very quiet when washing spinning etc. it can be a bit confusing initially but the more I've used it the more options I have found. I loved the denim option but disappointed it doesn't do the highest spin on it.

  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?
The stain removal options have got grease stain off a duvet cover and also tablecloth. The water plus worked when I did a dark wash load complete with tissue and removed all the bits of tissue.
  • What did you think of TwinDos feature?
Think it's a great idea but wish machine would not start unless you selected which compartment the washing liquid was coming from
  • How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?
I'm really impressed with detergents washing has been cleaner but I haven't compared to my normal washing liquid yet so I'm not sure if it's a combination of the machine and detergent or not.
  • Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes definitely. It is really quiet to use once you play with options on it it's easy to use. Love the anti crease function The pre ironing setting is great as is the water plus. The quick 20 min wash is fantastic.

Please also add any other comments you have
Overall I have been really impressed with the machine although
there are 2 problems I have found with the machine.

First is the box on he back I know it's a safety feature to stop your kitchen flooding but it wouldn't allow my machine to be pushed back properly this was resolved by changing the hose

Second is it's very very easy to put machine on and forget to press the Dos button I have done this on numerous occasions I wish it would beep/flash /not let wash cycle start until you had selection which compartment the liquid was in

VeganCow · 12/02/2015 11:17

Firstly, can I say a huge thank you to Miele for allowing me to be one of the ones picked to test the washing machine.

- How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?

I have absolutely loved using the Miele, it has been a real pleasure to wash! Every single washload has come out beautifully clean, and I have enjoyed getting to use the different features. I love that it has settings on that other machines do not have. You can definitely fine tune the machine to suit each individual wash that you do.

- Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?

The twin Dos especially impressed me...that you can fill the containers (or buy them pre-filled with Miele detergents) and not have to think about it or mess about putting detergent in the machine every time you wash, is a great idea.
I also love the anti-crease feature which gently tumbles the clothes to stop them creasing at the end of a cycle, because I dry indoors over winter and I don't iron (unless necessary!) I need the clothes to be crease free which they have been!

The fast 20 minute wash is great, and saves time as well as money.

I like that you can change the temperatures of the main cottons wash, so you can do a thorough wash but bring the temperature down to say, 30 degrees.

I also think the water plus setting is a good feature for people with skin allergies because it means the clothes are a free from detergents as possible.

- What did you think of TwinDos feature?

As above, I love it. Its a fantastic idea. I don't know how often the detergent needs replacing, but Miele say up to 3 months.
Its so easy not having to put powder/liquid and softener in the drawer every time you wash, although you can still do this if you prefer to.
You can also tweak how much of the detergents are released by changing the degree of soiling up or down if you have a particularly dirty or only lightly soiled load.

- How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?

I have done direct comparisons between the pre filled Miele containers and the ones that I filled with liquid bio detergent and fabric softener and the Miele wins. They are definitely quality detergents. In one wash they removed old foundation stains from white cloths that previous machine never managed!

- Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I absolutely would recommend the Miele to anyone looking to get a new machine. This washer is in a different league by far. Everything has been thought about in the planning of it, and it shows. I think someone buying the Miele will have a top class machine for many years.

VeganCow · 12/02/2015 11:22

PS, oops, when I thanked Miele I meant to thank Mumsnet as well, so, thank you Blush

soremummy · 12/02/2015 13:52

I totally forgot my manners and forgot to thank both Miele and mumsnet for giving me and my family the chance to try this fantastic machine

Rikalaily · 12/02/2015 20:20

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?

This machine is amazing, I love everything about it and have yet to find a fault. I was worried that I would find it hard to use (I've always had simple dial machines) but it's really easy to use and has a lot of settings that I never thought I would need but have found really useful.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?

The quietness and the fact that so many programs are adjustable. I'm very impressed with the 20 min wash, no wash quality lost at all on average soiled clothes. I like that the drain holes in the drum are tiny, little chance of any rogue items getting through and stuck under the drum/in the filter.

What did you think of TwinDos feature?

I feel really lazy for loving this feature but it is brilliant, No faffing about/spilling detergents all over the floor etc, just fill the tanks and forget about them for a while (about 2 weeks with the amount of washing I do and hard water).

How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?

The detergents are fantastic and leave the clothes smelling lovely, even when used without fabric softeners. My towels/tea towels/whites are looking a lot brighter after using the stage 2 on my white washes. One of my four year olds white school polo tops had black felt tip on it, most of it came out just on a 30 degree 20 min wash! A wool jumper that I rarely wear because it always smells a bit funny after being on a wool wash in my old machine was one of the first things I tried in this one. It came out feeling/ smelling lovely and perfectly rinsed, it always seemed under rinsed in my old machine.

Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would definitely recommend. It's easy to use, looks great and washes brilliantly, by far the best machine I've used. If it has the lifespan that it claims it can have it's an absolute bargain. Clothes come out spotless, well rinsed and barely damp.

Thankyou so much for choosing us for this trial Mumsnet & Miele!

LovelyBranches · 15/02/2015 23:24

Thank you to Miele for letting me test this machine. I'm really grateful and have actually enjoyed doing my washing for a change. Thank you also to Mumsnet for choosing me test this fab machine and for keeping me so well informed.

How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?

When the washing machine arrived it seemed like it had far more options and settings than my old machine. I was worried that it would be complicated to use but it's easy. A two minute talk through from the delivery driver got me off to a great start but the instructions are clear and easy to understand if I needed more information. The dials are clear and self explanatory and it's easy to personalise the wash settings to the clothes.

Overall, I've found the machine easy to use, excellent at getting out stains, quiet and nice looking in my utility room. It is a quality machine which is built to last and easy to personalise to whichever wash you require.

  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?

I've found the machine to be brilliant at getting our clothes sparkling clean, even at lower temperatures. I have been particularly impressed how well it copes with the challenges set by my three month old DS who last night needed three outfit changes in under ten minutes. Today all of those clothes are immaculately clean and like new. This makes my life as a new mother far easier. I love that you can tell the machine the degree of soiling and it will adjust the wash to get the stains out. I've also been impressed with the quietness of the machine and how little ironing my clothes need now. This is exactly the machine you want with a baby because it does it's job perfectly everytime. I don't have the time to faff about re-washing items that are still stained and with this machine I don't have too.

  • What did you think of TwinDos feature?
This is brilliant and I use it on every wash now. The detergents work excellently and again, play a big part in how well the machine does it's job, especially on tough stains. However this is the only feature where I would recommend a change because I'd like the TwinDos setting to be a presumed setting rather than an additional setting as I can see how it may be easy to forget to press the button. Plus, when you have a feature like this, which works so well, you want to use it on every wash.
  • How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?

Yes I did notice a huge improvement. This product test came at a perfect time for me because my baby DS decided to join in and provide the perfect challenge for this washing machine. I had seriously considered cutting DS out of some of his vests when we were between nappy sizes, and seriously doubted that I could ever get them clean again. What's amazing is that, not only are they clean and fresh in one wash, DM has also commented on how lovely they smell and how fresh DS's clothes always look. My DM is like Hyacinth Bucket when it comes to washing so this is praise indeed! The detergent smells fresh but not overpowering. I'll happily continue using this detergent as it works so well.

  • Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would certainly recommend the Miele washing machine to my friends and family. When I told my DM about the product test she told me that Miele was known to be a good brand. I thought it would be interesting to see if it lived up to it's name and it does and more. It's a well deserved reputation as this washing machine does so much more than others, and is a quality, well produced product with consistently great results.

I've already had a text from a friend who was interested in which washing machine I had as she could tell that this was a quality machine which had consistently great results.

Thank you again Miele and Mumsnet.

I was picked by MNHQ to review this product/ service, which I received for free. This review is in my own words and reflects my true opinion.

ReluctantCamper · 16/02/2015 14:28

Sorry for the delay posting this - my baby gave up sleeping for a week, so haven't been very coherent!

- How have you found the Miele washing machine overall?
I really like it. I particularly love the large capacity, and also the way it looks. Someone mentioned up thread that there's no recess in the door, so it doesn't collect dust, a great bit of design. It took a bit of getting used to as it's considerably more complicated than any washing machine I've owned before, but it didn't take too long to be able to just put a wash on without consulting the manual!

- Is there anything in particular about the Miele washing machine which impressed you?
One of the most impressive things was the great service from the delivery men. They really put loads of effort in, if I had bought the machine it would have really made me feel I'd made a good choice.

About the machine itself, it has dealt with all the grim muslins, bibs, and occasional baby poo stained items I've put in with ease. DH loves the shirt setting, he says ironing them is miles easier now. The very best thing about it is how wonderfully quiet it is. I can do washing in the evening again!

- What did you think of TwinDos feature?
I love this, it's easily my favourite thing about the machine. I know it's lazy, but getting the box of powder out of the cupboard and dosing the machine seems like such a faff now. Once my huge box of powder is used up, I will be reverting to liquid detergent in the bottles provided.

- How did you find the Miele detergents? Did you notice any improvement in the wash results?
Very allergic DH has been fine with bedding and clothes washed in the detergents (good news for him!). It's a bit hard to say regarding wash results, as you notice when things come out dirty, not when they come out clean, and pretty much everything has come out clean. DS's bright orange coat washed particularly well, the colour seemed very zingy afterwards.

- Would you recommend the Miele washing machine to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I was already predisposed to like it, as I have family and friends with Miele machines and they all love them. The main point people have made to me is, it will still be a good, working machine in 10 years time, and the Miele waranttee is excellent.

I would definitely recommend the machine, but only if someone had a pretty stonking budget, as obviously it's literally 3 times the price of many machines. However, my hope and expectation is that it will last and last, and the quality will remain high. I will also be raving about the TwinDos to people as it's ace.

Thanks to Mumsnet and Miele for giving me the opportunity to test this, it's been great.
