Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice, World's Craziest Fools are the "Musts". We also see far too many police documentaries when there is nothing else we want, and share many documentaries on history, the arts and various random things that we happen upon by accident......... Maybe we should start doing something more useful occasionally?

prettybird · 18/10/2014 15:28

Non tester.

There are four programmes we watch together: Strictly Come Dancing (have even set up a Facebook group to bitch comment constructively about it Wink), followed by Doctor Who and then, on other channels, Big Bang Theory (looking forward to the new series starting on Thursday Smile) and NCIS (waiting impatiently for the next series to start).

Jennis8 · 18/10/2014 15:38

Sorry - misread the question. The ONE programme we can't miss together is Strictly Come Dancing.

popelloucla · 18/10/2014 15:52

1 Did you set up your YouView box yourself? If not, who did?
Me and DH set the box up together.

2 How easy did you find it to set up your YouView box?
It was relatively easy, the powerline adapters connected to ones we already had and worked straight away. The only problem was when I needed to enter the postcode, it kept saying the postcode was invalid, so I tried a few different ones and it wouldn't accept any of them.

3 How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?
It all made sense straight away

4 Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?
Not used it yet, but will over the next couple of weeks

5 Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?
Similar to those I watch anway, nothing new.

6 Which of the services have you most enjoyed so far?
I love the way you scroll back through the planner to watch catch up, so much easier than on Sky.

7 Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?
Me.

8 What have you found YouView most useful for so far? Catching up on shows you've missed/ entertaining the kids/finding something to watch to pass time/ watching TV live/ listening to the radio/ search functionality / scrolling back 7 days on the programme guide / using the on demand players or the record functionality?
Watching the news when I go to bed.

9 Have you used NOW TV or Sky Store to watch films?
No, we have the full Sky package on our main TV, so I would be unlikely to use this.

10 Did you try out the free YouView remote record app?
I did as a test and it worked perfectly.

rollmeover · 18/10/2014 19:07

Non tester - our family favourite is Pointless. The baby loves the noise of the points total dropping, the 3 year old likes shouting out the number, and grown ups like showing off when we get a pointless answer (which isn't very often to be fair Grin )

baggiesbabe69 · 18/10/2014 19:36

Non tester here,
At the moment it's Our Girl we can't miss at any costs but ends soon so it'd have to be A League of Their Own

AmandaD1984 · 18/10/2014 23:38

Non Tester.
Up until recently we watched Old Jacks Boat- on Cbeebies together, but now it's probably X-Factor.

lauj8788 · 19/10/2014 12:51

I used to watch coronation street alone after the kids went bed when they were younger but now theyre getting older its the one show we all watch together. They're really into it now! :)

WowOoo · 19/10/2014 15:36

Non tester: My sons and I like watching nature programmes together.
We also watched Prof Brian Cox's new series together. There was a lot that went over our heads!

Treaclepot · 19/10/2014 16:13

Nontester- we snuggle down to deadly 60 it's the only programme we all like from the 4- to the 18 yr old (and me!)

sanfairyanne · 19/10/2014 21:24

non tester: dr who. and come dine with me Smile

teddygirlonce · 20/10/2014 07:29

Non-Tester here!

It always used to be Dr Who (seriously). We've been watching it since Christopher Eccleston reprised the role (and DH and I have been watching it virtually since it started in the 1960s!) but the DCs don't seem to have taken to Peter Capaldi's interpretation of the role....

I would say Outnumbered but that's now finished for good. Nevertheless we will all avidly watch repeats.

BettyMoody · 20/10/2014 07:31

Gogglebox. Modern family.

MummyBtothree · 20/10/2014 10:17

Non-Tester!!! We absolutely love Emmerdale and watch it religiously :)

ChantelD93 · 20/10/2014 10:45

Non-tester. We're love to watch the chase together.

MTBMummy · 20/10/2014 11:11

1 Did you set up your YouView box yourself? If not, who did?
I did, if it’s got a plug on it, it falls into my domain of responsibility

2 How easy did you find it to set up your YouView box?
It was very easy to set up, with clear straight forward instructions, the hardest part was moving the telly cabinet forward to get to the plug.

3 How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?
Not long at all, the remote is clearly labelled and once you get into the menu’s it is easy to navigate.

4 Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?
DD (4) figured it out quite quickly, although annoyingly she now pauses kids TV every time she goes to the loo.

5 Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?
It’s great to be able to record Strictly, and then watch it once the kids are in bed, actually it’s great to record so many programs and watch them later, I’m not sure that having all this telly to watch it a great thing, but it’s nice being able to watch something you really want to rather than mindless rubbish when you just want 30 minutes to unwind at the end of the day

6 Which of the services have you most enjoyed so far?
Loving 4OD, I’ve finally been able to watch the Black Mirror Episodes I missed.

7 Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?
Probably DP, as he’s a SAHP, and spends a lot of time pinned under a sleeping baby, so he’s loving that he can record movies over night and then watch them during the day – and it stops him getting ahead on box sets that we watch together

8 What have you found YouView most useful for so far? Catching up on shows you've missed/ entertaining the kids/finding something to watch to pass time/ watching TV live/ listening to the radio/ search functionality / scrolling back 7 days on the programme guide / using the on demand players or the record functionality?
I think the on demand and record functionality are definitely winners in our house.

9 Have you used NOW TV or Sky Store to watch films?
No, not yet, we’re trying to reduce costs, so we are wary of getting a subscription service. Although we are tempted by NOW TV’s entertainment package.

10 Did you try out the free YouView remote record app?
I have, it’s easy to use, although it would be a great plus if the app could be used to watch TV that you’ve recorded.

Other comments

Has anyone else found that the OD services (across all OD suppliers) just suddenly stops working? I’ve checked our Broadband (as the error message indicates) , and we’re getting between 30-40MB, which is 10 times over what is required. It’s really frustrating as we have to turn the box off and on again, which sometimes affects recordings, and we’ve had to reset the box entirely as well, it’s a pity because this is a great service let down by something so minor.

meerschweinchen · 20/10/2014 11:58

Non-tester here. Grand Designs is our not-to-miss programme (when the children are in bed). The only programme we watch as a family is Timmy time!

unadulterateddad · 20/10/2014 19:02

Non tester, Mythbusters is a big favourite in our house and Bake off when it was on - we often we re-watch old episodes too, my 8yr old son loves it.

Tiredoftiredness · 20/10/2014 19:47

Ooh yes, forgot to mention that but have had several od things randomly stop working. Haven't had to restart box for it (so far!), but it is v. Irritating.

sharond101 · 20/10/2014 21:16

The Great British Bake Off was our show, even DS who is only 2 would ask, "Can we watch the people cooking Mummy please?" We really got excited about it. Now it's finished In The Night Garden is about as exciting as we are getting.

stephgr · 21/10/2014 03:45

Non-tester. The one unmissable for me is Sunday Brunch whereas my children say everything on CBeebies is unmissable. We haven't yet found something we all want to watch together.

gemima27 · 21/10/2014 08:19

Non tester - we watch a lot of beehives together! But we all love to watch Shaun the sheep.

deepbreath · 21/10/2014 10:39

Non-tester. We watch Big Bang Theory together now the dc are a bit older.

cather · 21/10/2014 12:33

we always make time to watch The Great British Bake Off. We all love cooking and it is our favourite programme.

Maiyakat · 21/10/2014 14:42

Non-tester - DD's choice would be Mr Tumble, but she also enjoys watching Pointless with me after tea
