  1. Did you set up the box yourself. Yes, with "help" from DH and teenaged son while being slightly patronised by both. It was really, really easy but I needed careful supervision apparently (not bitter)
  2. Easy. Family management, not so easy.
  3. Very easy to understand. Some of these TV systems (I am looking at you Virgin) are unnecessarily complex but this one is ace.
  4. Yes, it has been used extensively by all of us. The kids love it and the planner thing is now "owned" by us all.
  5. We watch a lot of property shows since DH got DD interested in them. But, all the time, "my" programmes (documentaries and things I too embarrassed to admit watching) can record. Fab.
  6. The Catch up thing is fantastic.
  7. DD and DH are currently hogging it but my day will come.
  8. Scrolling back 7 days is brilliant. When someone mentions something good you can go and find it and watch it.
  9. They were watching a film (DD and DS) last night but not sure on what channel or how. Hope they don't expect me to pay for it!

10. I have plans to when we are away. Clever idea.

Thank you so much for picking me. We really are delighted with it and Mr Sky is getting the boot. Mr Virgin (in a property we manage) is also getting his marching orders. Wonderful.

We all love Charlie and Lola. I usually have DS1 and DS2 rushing to get on my lap first and I end up with both of them, and peak between their heads!

Non tester: Strictly and Gogglebox are the 2 programmes we will all watch together. There are a few programmes a couple of us will watch, but those 2 are the ones all 5 of us settle down in front of

Non tester.
We watched The Great British Bake Off together as a family, and we used to watch many a wildlife documentary together too, although less now we don't have a sky subscription. We've also let the kids up late to watch the X factor finals before with popcorn, but it's a bit rubbish this year so can't see that being a regular occurrence now. The best thing we watch as a family these days has to be the F1. We like to watch and support our favourite drivers, the older kids like to watch them drive close and overtake, and the youngest just likes the noise the cars make! Smile

@ProfYaffle

For the people who got a YouView box, what's the deal with the cable they said was needed to connect the box to the router? Have you literally had to trail a cable from one to the other? Just wondering because our router is nowhere near the TV.

YouView say "We’ve supplied powerline adaptors with all boxes which will allow you to connect your YouView box without cables."

Non-tester here.

We love snuggling on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn (or some other unhealthy treats) and watching Masterchef, X-Factor, The Apprentice, I'm a Celebrity and The Great British Bake off. We also like to watch England play footie in the World cup (although there weren't many matches this time round!). A good Robin Williams or an animated movie is great too.

Non tester. We all love to watch Match of the Day and You've Been Framed - both appropriate for all ages (DSes are 5, 3 & 8 months). We record them so that if we can't catch them live we can still watch them & can dip in & out of them.

Tester again with update. I do NOT appreciate having to watch adverts on the on demand shows, haven't watched an advert in over a year as old (bt vision) box allowed fast forward, but it seems to be blocked on youview so you have to sit right through them, v irritating!

Otherwise enjoying the box though, Thankyou Wink

1 Did you set up your YouView box yourself? If not, who did?

DH set it up - the electronics cupboard is full of spaghetti and he knows what plugs in where (and has longer arms than me, so can reach it all)

2 How easy did you find it to set up your YouView box?

It was pretty easy to set up. We had an older Humax PVR, which we bought just before YouView was first launched. We didn't hold out for YouView, at the time, because our net connection was pretty dire, then, and we wouldn't have got the best out of it.

3 How long did it take you to understand how to use YouView?

Pretty much straight away, with the occasional bit of fiddling with the zapper.

4 Has your child/children used YouView? How long did it take them to understand it and get used to it?

DS1 has had a flick through, but still sticks with the very limited on demand services that our TV offers (just BBC and ITV, with no subtitles and awful controls)

5 Which programmes have you most enjoyed watching on YouView so far?

We've recorded and watched quite a bit of stuff. I wanted to watch Human Universe on catch up, earlier this week, because I missed it the week before, but the On Demand services weren't loading, so I had to do it by other means. I do hope that's not a persistent problem.

6 Which of the services have you most enjoyed so far?

As with our old PVR, recording TV.

7 Who in your family has used your YouView box the most?

DH!

8 What have you found YouView most useful for so far? Catching up on shows you've missed/ entertaining the kids/finding something to watch to pass time/ watching TV live/ listening to the radio/ search functionality / scrolling back 7 days on the programme guide / using the on demand players or the record functionality?

Mostly for recording, but the On Demand is useful for stuff that we've missed. We've got ELO recording for DS1, at the moment!

9 Have you used NOW TV or Sky Store to watch films?

No. Don't want to pay money to Sky. A bit disappointed that you can't access other services unless your isp is BT or TalkTalk (we're with Plusnet). It looks like we're still going to end up buying a separate box for movies.

10 Did you try out the free YouView remote record app?

Yes. It's easy to use and quite useful. The only drawback is that it's very one way, so you can't send a message to prevent something from recording, and you don't get any feedback about recording clashes and only find out if it's not recorded when you're able to look directly at your TV.
