UK Mumsnetters needed to test TomTom’s top Sat Nav - the GO 5000 worth £259.99 NOW CLOSED

We have been asked by the team at TomTom to find 100 UK MNers to try TomTom GO 5000.

We're looking for Mumsnetters who are regular drivers.

TomTom says: "We all know that traffic jams can take seconds to build up and then last for hours. There is nothing more frustrating than sitting in a jam or in slow moving traffic and not knowing how long you will be there. Especially, when your time is tight and you have children to pick up or drop off.

TomTom satnavs know the precise traffic situation on most UK roads at all times, in real time. The satnav you’ll be given to test is a “live device,” this means it is constantly searching every possible route option to find you the fastest route available. So, if the traffic situation suddenly gets bad on your “normal” route, it will automatically search other options to find a new, faster route and give you a new arrive time."

If selected, you'll be sent the TomTom GO 5000 to try for a few weeks and so long as you add feedback as required you will be able to keep the product.

If selected, you will be sent the TomTom GO 5000 at the end of September, and asked to try it for two weeks. You will then need to try it and add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the testing period, we’d also like you to post a review on the Mumsnet review pages and fill in a short survey. In order to keep the product, you would need to add your feedback by the 26th of October, so please only apply if you are able to do this.

Chipping, yes, brilliant quick guide! Downloading the updates now... Children, I had the same messages, but mine is here. Odd. I've chosen the Irish voice for now. I voted for Darth Vader though.

Oh well...I've got to go out so it will have to just sort itself out.

Mine has just arrived, I have to go do the school run now so can't play with it yet.

After 5 hours and a half hours (distracted husband with lunch, I had a nap and then did the school run) the updates have downloaded...now just waiting for the estimated hour for them to upload to the satnav itself.

found this tricky. created an account, plugged it in and does it download to pc thrn onto device?

then it plugs into car. have used one before but this is more sophisticated.

This downloading melarky is taking some time! Been at it for about 3 and a half hours now and it's still only on 53%! Admittedly it had to fight for bandwidth with cbeebies for the first hour but it's still a bleedin long update.

I ended up having to go out leaving it to update and I come home to find there's still another update to go!
Will start using it tomorrow unless I decided to runaway tonight

Finally updated and managed to take it out for a short drive

Love the screen clarity. Did get confused with the charger and the screen holder, resulting in a few minutes on the drive trying not to teach the children new swear words.

I've decided to sod the updates and take it out to play!! I'll update it later whilst I'm watching GBBO!!

Its working fine so I might not update it for a bit

ive had a play with settings, set home address and ive changed the colour settings then changed it back to normal.
The only thing I can say its not all that touch sensitive ive had to touch a few things more than twice for it to go through.

I am having fun trying to get voice recognition lady to understand me.

I have gone with Serena. She's good.

Have you checked the Australians? One of them says something like put your sunglass on and dont let the seagulls stealyour chips lol

Mine has just arrived- it's a nice compact size- will fit in a handbag easily- going to try it out at work tomorrow!

Voice recognition? Can it recognise more than 1?

it can't recognise my voice nice.

Mine's arrived and I've set up an account or whatever without having to plug it in, do I really need to connect to computer? I think I can manage to do this using their incredibly helpful quick set up diagram...

Also, why do I need to keep it in the car so it can be blasted with green x rays from space rather than the house? I'm confused. Is this a simple way of telling me I need to take it with me when I go on a journey

Voice rec all good here, quite enjoying the cheeky Aussie guy. Hope Brian Blessed was the chosen voice. Would quite like him shouting at me. Are they going to open a new thread for this?

I've just plugged mine in for it's very very very long update. Bit that it doesn't come with a case. If I had paid £250 would have been . Wish I had a play first now
